DEAD: Mature Drone (LU-545-C7) (F) says, “normally i would agree @Marrone but this incident just has more to do with the lack of permanence to death. they rushed the CLF because they knew they couldn’t actually do any grievous harm to the hostage beyond what kits and a defib would fix.”
Okay, this might be a awful idea then, but what if hostile factions (only hostile factions) could force a marine to be held hostage, say on grab intent with a gun or knife. If they were to resist or if the person holding them was shot (and various other cases) then they immediately get permanently killed. Make it so theres a big icon hovering over that showcases whats happening.
This has the potential to grief, but I think it would enhance hostage RP significantly. Now theres actual risks here. Think of all the RP opportunities with the CLF!
I’m completely aware theres a lot of ways this could be an awful change.
I think this would be fine on PvE, however on PvP you can’t stop john marine from fragging out the second they see a valid, you just can’t.
You would have to silo this away to an enviroment only trusted RPers could access otherwise it will either be ignored or used as a grief tool, unfortunately
This could be abused to do backstabs and assassinations if you just run up to a guy and grab em. I like this idea though, but i don’t like that you perma them
It’s my b, I walked at the person pointing at me because i thought they wanted to say something and were moving off my screen but then I got fragged out because people thought I was rushing for the hostage. So then people wanted to kill more because BRAVOID DOWN!!!
It was escalated fine, we just oopsied on understanding intents, and nothing in heaven or earth can fix that part of this game
This is sadly just a consequence of our current medical mechanics where pretty much anyone can easily get necromancy’d to nominal health and can make full recoveries with a trip to the hospital.
If this was in context of a major event round, i’d propose to admins in general to enable permadeath and increase all character health to 200% instead. Players behave much more realistically when death is permanent.
It is already the case on PvE, you can’t be defibed there, so a PB shotgun blast will crit you and another (firerate of even the most basic shotgun is upped) will make it sure you died.
The alternative is being a medicaly trained hostile human with drugs. Even something like two basic oxycodone emergency pens is quite deadly. CL’s omnizine breaks your heart on OD, so here is that.
If anything of this sorts gets added, it should be a windup like during suicide, aggresive grab, aim mouth, “disarm” intent with gun. No automatic shooting when hit, or stuff like that. Enough to react to a nade etc, but not immediate, because what is the point in doing anything to a guy holding a hostage, you do what he says and as soon as he stops grabbing him, then you kill both and revive victim.
This was actually in the game and it caused a bunch of guys to get in trouble for escalation/griefing, untill it was finally removed.
I remember MPs would do it with their pistols when people would start running and anyone who had their shit stolen or got slightly pissed off would do it… Then once they got shot it turns into a fullblown gunfight.
What you’re talking about is the “Aim and Fire”, where you could essentially laser someone and shoot them if they move, right? Because that was removed since the XM88 was being used to essentially aimhack xenoes/preds to death.
Might be that, idk but it was a holdup mechanic that gave people a warning and visual marker of who was aiming at you too, and if you moved you’d get shot. Thats funny
