Add Tactical Map KEY

As it is now, the tactical map lacks a key.

Yes, a key which describes which every icon means. This is an oversight, I’m sure because keys are essential for most data like this, it’s why even graphs have them them.

Right now, anyone looking at the icons list generally has to guess or memorise what every symbol means (without really knowing where to find the icons, if you can easily at all.)

TLDR - A role/icon Key for Tactical Map is very important for QoL for both new players and older alike and should be added.

You don’t need to know every single icon, to be honest.

You just need to know Queen, Leaders (since almost all of them are T3 and important to the game), defibbable, and where your own men are.

I think the issue lies more so in the fact that the key does not seem to be readily accessible from the tacmap, or if it somehow is, then it is not visually obvious. The key obviously exists, and I know it’s been floating around parts of the community, but I think most people will not realize the key exists unless they are shown it by others, which means newer players (and possibly some veterans) are going to have a seriously hard time trying to make sense of the tacmap, which is not something we want.

Yeah, but it would be very nice to have the info what the markers mean. Ingame relevant knowledge should be acesible ingame after all.

Yeah the xeno icons are pretty unintuitive, I tend to just think of them as strictly green (T1), yellow (T2) and red (T3). Would be nice to have a key, yeah.

Except command knowing the key can be the difference between “theres 3 bugs near sci dome” and “there’s a lurker, runner, and drone near sci dome” and marines can react accordingly (deciding to mortar sci dome instead of pushing in and getting capped).

Even then, you may not know what each of those symbols mean. They’re also tiny and depending on a person’s screen resolution, could be like a symbol size for ants making it even harder to identify

After reading only the title I thought you meant a physical key that CO can use to lock the tacmap, so that the smooth brain officers stop updating it and actually do their jobs instead.

Well thats a problem because you cannot actually make the tacmap any bigger past a certain point.

What if we just added the xeno icons to in-game, outside of the tacmap? Like a squadHUD.
People easily recognise marine icons because they see it all the time. The xeno icons however, are largely unique to the tacmap.
