So I have been thinking about making all department heads a captain after reaching gold or platinum, and making SOs a 1st LT after reaching a certain point. I mainly opened this to hear your guys’ feedback and thoughts on it.

I definitely think we could fit in a CMP captain rank at plat or gold, possibly even CMO captain. However considering the position of the CE, I do believe they will have to stay how they currently are. I do like the idea though, I heard back in old CM the XO was actually an O-5 and the CE was a O-4.

All department heads should be Captains because First Lieutenant is basically Officer PFC, that or they should be WOs/CWOs.

Originally CO was O5, XO and CE both O4, and department heads O3. It was later changed to CO O6 and XO O5.

Ranks in CM have always been iffy, I do love how down to earth we are with them so we don’t have a billion senior officers. However, 1st lieutenant as edible brought up is a pretty junior level officer.
So can we return RO? We have a QM corps creed in QM office yet QM isn’t department head, and I think Req indeed a full-fledge department not a side mission from an ASO.

IOs should get a new rank thats called 3rdLt. or O0 if you want.

IOs should be enlisted personnel honestly. Rename the whole role and make them a corporal or something. They ain’t special enough to be commissioned officers

Honestly, if you start viewing IOs as Junior Officers fresh out of OCS that higher-ups hate and that said higher-ups actually want them to end up KIA on some backwater dust-planet or captured (only to later emerge in a CLF beheading video anonymously mailed to their family on VHS tape) so that they cease to be anyone’s problem, things make a lot more sense. Both their low ranks despite playtime, as well as the dizzying incompetence on display as soon as someone selects James Bond: High in the pre-game. Taking this view, the rank of 2LT is in fact a pretty soulful part of the greater CM-Headcanon.
At best, I propose 250 hours rewarding them with a chocolate medal, which they can’t figure out how to unwrap.

Honestly this would be fine, but make sure there are special and easy to recognize identifiers for the XO and CO so there’s never rank confusion. Also let XO’s and CO’s gain ranks with time.
having anyone but the ASO and XO be a Captain by default would be a stretch unless you can justify explaining why their Department is the size of a Company lol
even having 1stLt SOs would be a stretch since that puts them at leading a whole platoon (42 soldiers in one squad, good luck lol)

Well does that mean RO should be back or QM be 1st LT, according to that QM creed tablet in QM officer?
And according to Alien: Colonial Marines Technical Manual, req has lieutenant in it’s roster as part of a MAU support group so QM should be a NCO but I prefer the old RO. Also in the manual the OOB states that logistic is a platoon.

This will probably just make my job harder(see: make when I hassle MPs a bigger legal/low RP deal) but…
Yeah, if you make all the department heads Captains, that’d be great- with the caveat that IF you do, all of them can dish out medals. It would be awesome because then an engineer who builds FOB cams can get recognized for going the extra mile, for example.

Well as IO mainer, I would say that 1stLT would be a lovely thing. But than should so be with pilots and others to fill up gaps according to chain of command.
The thing that might’ve be intersting is swithcing some roles like doctors, DCCs, OTs, maybe the same said IOs to the Warrant Officer side. They steel be highter than regular enlisted personnel, but also not COs. And there will be kind of progression from WO1 up to WO5
