For xenos, it’s fighting cadehugging marines for an hour, without T3’s (which you need in a siege) for most of it. It is more fun and productive to watch paint dry, than actually play Xeno on WO.
For marines, hardcore just makes it extremely frustrating, since a single bad mortar shell, or some over bullshit. can round remove you, and since playing xeno is miserable, it’s even worse here! I’ve heard from so many people that WO was better without hardcore, and I agree personally with them.
WO does not need to suck.
I honestly think that the best way to fix it, is address both of these issues:
First: Allow xenos to start with T3’s, or at the very least make it earlier, and that they have defenders from the start. Sieging with nothing but runners is miserable, so don’t make the xeno team have to do that. Give them a queen, and don’t make them wait so damm long to be able to do something to the cades.
Second: Remove hardcore. Most people I know, hate it. Just remove it, it’s not fun at all, just makes the game feel even more bullshit and unfair, and also 90% of medics do not realise you actually need innaprovaline to stop bleed out damage, and even then, the role of medics is heavily nerfed, and feels worse to play.
The biggest problem in my opinion is there’s no variety.
With distress, the xenos and marines can do different strategies such as paradropping in a lot of marines or the queen can organise a flank or do a different hive location.
With WO you get non of that, it’s just “squad go to pillbox whatever and shoot xeno till the other pillbox falls”
WO was, has, and will always just be a meme map - particularly after it got tweaked into Hard Core mode where revives aren’t an option. The concept COULD feasibly work, but not necessarily centered fighting endless xenowaves - someone mentioned WO as a HvZ map and I do think that might be a better use for an “Endless Siege” style map survival that isn’t an ad-libbed, heavy admin event
