How do you even... develop xenos?

Imma be real with you all. Plenty of times I imagine what could be developed as new features for marines. And it’s honestly quite easy, you just think of what stuff IRL soldiers have, you think what part of those things would be fun to use and if it’s feasible to develop then you have a valid idea.
Whoever, plenty of times I see all the ideas and new stuff that marines get and despite the fact that I hate xenomains with all my soul I feel like they could really use more content. And when I thought about it I tried to think about new stuff that xenos could get and uh… It was hard.
And a quick trip to ideaguys will make you figure out that new ideas for xeno content either aren’t ambitious enough for them to be that great or they are so wild and outlandish that you must be drunk and high in order to comprehend and appretiate.
So that left me the question for xenomains… How do you even get ideas for xenos?

This is not a complete list, just the ones off the top of my head.

  1. Build off of the current xeno’s extentions. Xenos have strains, why not add a strain? choose a class: warrior. Choose a style: probably defensive, but still manuverable. new strain: castle. In siege mode it moves very slowly but does 40 slash, 45 armor, and there is a leap that can still move you around to empty tiles.

  2. Find what you think is missing and try to add something that would fill in that gap. Pheros are often only regen on xenos due to lack of overlapping phero users, especially low pop. Maybe leaders can plop down an area every 3 minutes that has a random phero that the queen is not emitting for 30 seconds.

  3. Build off mechanics in the game. Take eating for example. Maybe xenos can eat marine’s food if they get to em, giving them some health regen.

  4. Crazy concepts that have no basis. Sorry, there’s no magical way you can even start to think about these ideas. Example: when 4 xenos face each other with a tile in between, a magical healing resin effect happens in that one tile, and afterwards all 4 xenos can rest where they are for double healing. Or to summon the flying spaghetti monster. Either or.

You don’t because whenever you try to add something for xenos 10000 salty marinemains appear and start screeching at you and DMing you death threats.

Less people play and enjoy xenos, so less people develop them. Last time xenos were developed we got pre-nerf vampire lurker, that speaks for itself.

I do wish there was more competition about intel, after they made marines and xeno not to be dragged they have just created more free points out if the blue without anything in return to xenos. So i wish after perma marines/xeno could be dragged, Would just be nice that xeno have something to work to. Maby xeno stims? Better eggs that get better hugger ai? Stronger weeds? Just have some interactive to do would make it more fun for xenos i think

Original Dev of the King here; you come up with an idea and you make it.

I was a maintainer so it made it a bit easier but the key is that you have to just go with your idea and make something, gather feedback after.

I pretty much mained Xeno when I played CM and that was enough to give me ideas of what could be done, sadly real life took over before I could finish a lot of them but luckily @Nivrak stepped in and finished off the King & endgame stuff for me.

Best way to get ideas is to play, learn how to make them and then just do it.

You don’t because people who start PR’s for Xenos usually just give up on it before it gets finished, it goes stale and it gets forgotten about.

We could have

. Reaper

. Corroder (New one not old)

. Burrower (Resinshark strain)

and more…

but alas they’re just lost to time…

I got a funny idea but not sure if its lore active but maybe the ability of xenos to consume the corpse of your fellow dead xeno to gain perhaps knowledge of how they died and prevent marines from getting the corpses since dragging dead xenos is now impossible for xenos leaving behind either a exoskeleton or meat slabs (result of gibbing xenos in gibber) or eat marines (with a longer delay to prevent xenos eating all player pop)
