If you didnt know, leap on hugger does not, infact, hug. It applys a comedically short knockdown (less than a warrior punch) and thats it.
It has 0 use right now due to this.
And no, dont say “oh but balanceeeee” hugger leap takes 3-5 business days to warmup, cant leap over cades, cant hit moveing marines, and unhides the hugger.
If your REALLY concerned about balance, have the hugger be lit up when it starts its leap warmup (like how boiler has a light on it)
I disagree with this, but I definitely think that the hugger nerf was too much. Even if you find a perfect, oblivious target off weeds close enough to not kill you, the timer until you jump is so hilariously long the only way I could possibly imagine they would get hugged is if they were AFK or alt-tabbed.
As it stands, the only real way to play hugger well (!!STRAT LEAK INCOMING!! (it’s super basic)) is just to spin around a high maturity warrior to let them know you’ll be there, follow them around and wait for them to hopefully get a good target to lunge. If warriors know a hugger is nearby, skilled ones have a bit more freedom as to when there’s a good lunge target for a cap, so depending on the warrior it’s a good way of getting that cap count higher.
Huggers should not be able to do anything on their own, without the help of other xenos. Being able to hug a player off of stuns, an uncon marine getting out of pain crit, or literally anyone not paying attention for 2 seconds, is already very powerful.
It’s that, combined with the fact that they require absolutely zero investment. They’re a ghost role with an infinite number of lives, costs the hive nothing if you die, and can literally only positively influence the xenos.
left click (crawl) only works if the person is already knocked down, in which case yes it’s better. leap still has use if you wanna target someone within one tile who is gonna be standing
well there’s still a limited amount of huggers that can be alive at a time, so you’re costing a ‘spot’, and you also cost a morpher count or egg
90% of the time, yeah, but leap does have some niche value outside that.
If you leap at a tile adjacent to you, and a marine then walks onto it when the wind-up finishes, they eat the hug.
Additionally, if you sprite-click a marine who isn’t adjacent, but they are when the windup finishes, they eat the hug. [Verification needed]
Pair this with say, queen neurodragging someone through a 1x1 doorway, or warrior lunge-dragging into the resin door he just jumped out of, and you get get some cool and stupidly fast hugs off from relative cover.
Leap is good when marine is running around, so spriteclicking them hoping they’ll be next to you at the moment you leap is actually not a bad idea. I legit saved a queen from death this way once. A guy ran her down in crit, a defender and a runner were (unsuccesfully) trying to block him from finishing the queen and I landed a perfect leap on him.
Truly says something about CM players when they think a full grown marine cant fight off a tiny crab on their own. Huggers are tiny and their is no way i should not be able to kick it away.
counter point as a marine dont shove you’r face directly in front of the hugger. Like thats not much of a counter point since he did the dumbest thing possible.
