Welcome to xenomorph gameplay, where you have to look at the runechat and the screen at all times. To counterplay CAS and Mortar you need two things: Good game knowledge and fast reaction. Learn where CAS and Mortar can and cant hit - its as easy as clicking shift on a floor tile and checking the description, then memorizing what’s the pattern for that map is. I personally just have an instinct to run away in horror and fear from any CAS or Mortar notification as xeno and even marine.
This stuff comes with time, I needed at least 500 hours on xeno to learn how to dodge most of it and then another 500 to become basically invulnerable. I also played CAS a bit so when I see a good strike path - I get the fuck out of it and try to find spots CAS isnt watching.
CAS and Mortar are not Overpowered, as some might say, by the way. Most marines dont even use it because they dont know how or just dont want to. Most firesupport rounds are spent AFK waiting for something to happen, getting a killstreak, then going back to AFK.
Some mortar players got so genuinely bored that they started using calculators to discover any point of the map with just having FOB coordinates, and then sniping xenos all over the map with the predicted coordinates.
Best counter to firesupport? Getting out of the open. Trijent and Shivas suck because the entire map is open ground, but you have to improvise there with offensive-defensive tactics. Maps like Solaris or LV? Perfect caves to make firesupport players miserable.

Its funny that CM went from a meta of robustos and quick reaction timing on marine side, alongside sacrifices (since PB shotgun juggling used to kill you due to high acid damage at close range, and if you failed the PB you got double huggered and dragged to hive forever), to autismo level understanding of the game ala goon / old TG level of understanding of the game needed or being hand held by a mentor in that job and hours of gameplay to understand, but when you DO understand, you basically wipe the floor with the other side.
CM is basically as close to old /tg/ science and new Atmospherics / Goon science; if your a noob, you do more harm to yourself and others around you than anyone else, but if you are a pro, you can wipe the entire station.
Case in point; stims? If your Tyrone level good you can make or break an entire round, but if your a noob you get a 10 OD stim that makes you super fast then kills your heart in 2 seconds.
Same with OT, same with CAS, etc. All the super OP marine goodies are basically tied around misc jobs that barely interact with the actual groundside team, but can super power them through arcane knowledge they learned from tinkering with the game and/or learning from those who paved the way for them already.
It is no longer about the Kesserline robustos of our time; it is the Tyrone era.

tyrone has like 800 hours in researcher, where the robustos spent those thousand hours learning pfc to its peak he focused on researcher, it’s the same thing just with the time invested in different systems (although research has a multiplicative effect on all the marines rather than being limited to one guy.)

You don’t need 800 hours to learn research lmao. You have no idea what you are talking about. You can realistically learn to make godstims in like 3 rounds given you learn from scratch. How can you compare it to PFC where you need situational awareness, good aim, thought-out game knowledge etc, where even 800 hours is not enough to actually master.
(I have 40 hr on researcher and I know how to make godstims with simple recipes, there is not much to learn and you cannot fail)

Yeah, i got about 150 hours in research, and its all just about knowing the wiki and some fringe knowledge. Thats it. Thats the role.
