is Multi-z the new Wallening

Just thinking.. it seems to be very polarizing and a very big change for the game, and xenos have a lot of complaints about it..

It’s not, because the wallening had zero redeeming qualities whatsoever. Multi-Z is at least cool no matter your opinion on the balance of it.

multiz is not cool

I don’t want it to be, if only because it is cool and so much hard work has been put into making it happen. In my opinion, there’s tons of options to buff xenos on multi-z (removing the wind-up needed to go between levels, halving the stun from falling for the T3s/Queen, multi-z resin buildings, wall crawling) that are either easily feasible or have been worked on some that could be implemented first before we go the nuclear option.

The only problem is, it’d be hard to buff xenos on multi-z without some marine mains going crazy about it. Many marine-only players feel multi-z is xeno-sided as is, and of course there’s quite a few who are viciously adamant that any sort of xeno-buff is a sin committed by the xeno-dev mafia.

I don’t think it is, i genuinely think it’s just a bit undercooked for xenos. Maybe it’s time for the resin pylon to make a come back, to actually enclose resin structures

Objectively false, you said this solely to contradict me. I will hear nothing to the contrary.

question. what is Wallening?

TGstation devs spent a lot of time and effort pushing a very controversial change, until eventually giving up.

No, since multiz could actually add some more tactical depth to maps. But engaging with multiz as a xeno just isn’t fun since you can’t actually protect yourself from being shot above.

Make hive walls block off the upper level as well, or add some sort of resin roof and then it’d become way more tolerable. Also the stun from falling off the ledge is absurd (especially since T3s are the size of the drop in the first place).

Also funny how marines got their MDs to check other Z-levels (which they canonicly cannot do), but xenoes have nothing similar. So if you are either above or under the xeno, you do not get hints that there are anyone there.

Damn, that comment about motion detectors is actually true now that I think about it.

This is the heat death of soul.

both of these are PR’d and the latter has been TM’d for a few days

As a Certified Marine Main I feel Multi-Z is not Xeno sided.

It was a visual change to the /tg/station codebase that added a quasi-isometric perspective to walls. It caused significant complaints and led (in part of other ongoing issues) to a fairly rapid crash of the server population - but despite the complaints from players it was forcibly kept in by coders and only reverted after the damage was done.

A cautionary tale, mayhaps.

How fast was the population decline? Was it rapid or over a period of time?

I wasn’t playing at the time but iirc it was pretty quick, and combined with some other stuff (DDoS, drama) it had players leave long enough to stick with other servers.

I’m not trying to stir anything up. I’m just noticing how dchat is very polarized on multiz rounds to the point that it’s all everyone talks about.

I take everything Dchat says with a grain of salt. I think we will be fine.

Honestly it’s mostly just stuff like how a decent portion of Xeno ranged attacks just not translating across stairs (Oppressor Grabs for example) while bullets do makes staircase chokepoints much easier for marines to hold. Minor things that are probably fixable it’d just be a pain in the ass to do it
