Enforcement Action Taken
Description of the incident:
The detailed version of the entire incident minute by minute can be found in the above ban appeal. The short summary is that a permanent ban was applied for dying to a friendly fire mortar that killed 15+ marines, orbiting the Bravo FTL who did it, talking shit about him in dead chat for 30 minutes, spawning in as a facehugger and going directly to where he was at, dying to him, and then once he eventually died to a separate noninvolved lurker, shit talking him once he could see dead chat.
I have no prior notes other than a SL job ban for what amounted to internet failure in 2016, over 9 years ago. I have 100+ hours across all roles combined (I believe, I may be wrong), all of which have to the best of my knowledge been played without any sort of rule violation or issue. I have taken full responsibility for my actions and acknowledged that -some- punishment may be appropriate, but that a permanent ban for a first time offense that ruined no ones round and which only amounted to some shit talking, some of which was borderline comedic. (John Marine / Cortana Halo 2 mission) I feel that it’s way beyond heavy handed to apply a ban that can only begin to be appealed 180 days from its application date.
Additionally, a -very- similar staff enforcement report regarding metagaming was submitted and accepted here, which even goes so far as to mention the same “no ones round was ruined” and first time offense claim as myself. WolfOrion - Staff Report: Enforcement Action Taken - Management (Edited)
Evidence:
Evidence is limited to a verbal recollection of the events that transpired found in the ban appeal at the top of the incident section, the ban message included in the ban appeal, and the logs available for round ID 26218. I don’t have access to my note history or hour count to be able to visually confirm the claims made in the above section.
Hi there, I was the one who investigated the report on your metagaming attempts at getting the Bravo FTL captured. Whilst the actions you took were bad in its own right, your conduct in dead chat before, and after your attempt to hug the marine is what justified me to elevate it to a permaban.
There is joking around, and there is calling him “Bravotard” more than once, asking if lesser drones can target his location before taking action yourself. Berating and criticising his actions for throughout your time orbiting him. Whilst I understand the pain of being round ended by another’s fuck up, you need to accept that people mess up all the time, accidents occur, should you feel its intentional, ask us to investigate it.
Should management decide to reduce or remove the ban, I highly advise that if, and lets be honest, its Colonial Marines, when these things occur in the future, step away for a minute to calm yourself down before doing something you will later regret.
You’re absolutely right, I have acknowledged this mistake multiple times throughout my staff report here and the ban appeal linked and accepted full responsibility for my actions and indicated in the ban appeal I’d like to reach out to the player to personally apologize. I’ve also specifically acknowledged previously and here again that accidents happen and that the player regardless of his actions did not deserve what was said to him.
However, a first offense that does not ruin anyone’s round, and that impact wise essentially amounted to shit talking and a single instance of metagaming from a player who’s been playing almost a decade with virtually no notes does not under any circumstance warrant a permanent ban, and to double down on a permanent ban when said player has clearly demonstrated remorse and taken responsibility is a needless heavy handed application of the rules that benefits no one.
I’d ask that you take the time and please make sure you’ve thoroughly read the linked ban appeal so that you can have a visual reference of what I’m saying here. I’ve linked it again for you below. Thank you for taking the time to reply to this.
Heya! I looked through the incident, your appeal and the logs surrounding it.
First of all I totally disagree with your argument about comparing your ban to another ban that ended up being reduced. I dont find the two situations to be similar at all besides the specific rule being broken.
Rulebreaks like this often happen in a unique way and require a unique ruling and resolution.
I also dont agree with you when you see that you deserve clemency because your actions didnt end up ruining anyone’s round. You had the INTENT to capture and round remove the bravo SL. It might not have worked out but that intent was still there, you’re not getting any leniency for fumbling your attempt.
The only part of your report/appeal that I agree with is that you dont have any prior notes regarding anything like this and that you have been clean of notes for a long time.
Because of that I have decided to accept your staff report.
I am willing to give you a second chance so I will be reducing your ban to a month ban, and I’ll keep the 6 days that already passed in mind for that.
That being said I dont see any staff misconduct here so I will not be taking any action against Tysonix.
You blatantly metagamed, encouraged other people to metagame and were acting toxic in deadchat. The reduction in your ban time really is a kindness from me rather than correcting any violation of protocol.
Please take the time remaining on your ban to play other games or other SS13 servers and to reflext on how you lost your cool here and how to not do something like that in the future.
This is your second chance, dont blow it.
