I’ve been getting some dreadful lag spikes, recently. I’ll be playing with a smooth 30-40ms, only to have it suddenly shoot to 2000-3000ms for a couple of (usually lethal) seconds, before stabilizing again. Is anyone else getting this? Think I’ll try emptying the cache, but I’m not sure if that’ll solve anything.
Hey there,
It’s not just you, there’s been a lot of talk of lag spikes and increased ping lately. There’s been some rumors floating about what caused the sudden uptick, but no definitive answers. I’ve gone ahead and asked some questions given that this issue seems to be affecting quite a few people, I’ll let you know if I get any clarification on the matter.
In the meantime, you can try swapping relays or direct connecting to see if that ameliorates your issue. If you don’t already know how to do so, click your ping at the top right of the chat box and then simply click whichever relay/direct connection you would prefer.
Yeah, same. These lags seem less prevalent on lowpop, but when the number of players exceeds 100 - CM chokes and stutters every 30 seconds or so, before returning to a smooth sailing for another 30 seconds
Clearing cache, reinstalling BYOND, switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet cable, using VPN - nothing seems to fix the game
I thought this was just a me problem since my average ping is ~120ms, but if people with 40ms are running into similar issues - that’s really weird…
Okay, here’s the rundown: Official answer, from Harry and Drathek themselves, nothing has changed server wise. The rumors most likely started from a vote a staff member held to fuck with people and then spread through confirmation bias (that I myself fell into). If you want to read the full convo for yourself, here’s the message link: Discord . There’s also a basic explanation of the three kinds of ways you can connect to the server, if you’re interested.
As for what’s actually causing your lag, I wish I had an easy answer for you. The best thing I can recommend is trying either another relay or one of the connection methods outlined above. You could also try monitoring the times it seems to lag- if it’s consistent, it might just be network congestion.
If you have any further questions, you might want to direct them to the development/coding channels in the discord. I can’t guarantee that you’ll get a reply, but I can guarantee that they know more about internet/server stuff than me!
I blame North Korea.
Does Kim play CM? We need to know
I’m gonna blame my internet provider, then. Thanks for the info!
is there a way to make a ping compensation script for CM?
He looks like a man who uses Reddit.
I had to look up what that was, so y’know, no clue. Just a quick heads up, I’d run it by an admin before you do so. There are multiple types of scripts banned (and I’m not sure we even allow them, outside of maybe a few accessibility cases) so it’s worth checking with someone who knows more about our policy on that!
no but i mean to implement in CM,not exterior apps
wait you guys play the game without 1 second delay to register inputs?
Right now, basicly daily, but with different time frames - useally for 1 or 2 rounds. And that´s more then lag spikes, I have server reconnects every 5 minutes - unplayable.
