Maple01 - Commanding Officer Application

Very good Roleplayer. Great CL and XO +1

Always great to have you as a CL best of luck with your application.

Worked with this fellow as my CL in a few rounds and his RP skills are excellent, being able to make an interesting situation with my Characters religious affiliation.

While I’ve never worked under his leadership in operations, I can certainly vouch for his role-playing skills.

Making me log on to my CM Forums account just to +1 a guy, gall darnit Brandon.

I love the roleplay you partake in sir, and I am always a fan of being a part of it. Atticus will always be a faithful friend to Mr. Brookfield.

Fantastic commander, excellent roleplayer, only reason to decline would be so I can keep getting him as my XO so I don’t have to do my job.

Very easy +2, looking forward to roleplaying with Major Brookfield (use the mateba).

Hey matttheficus, always a pleasure.

Brandon would let it pass in the moment, which may seem irregular at first or even strange. This is based on how he already had to deal with dozens of people who had a negative view on corporate, and he would view this as being beneath him as he had dozens of times before when he was with the Company. At the end of the day, it is a petty insult like many others. While this was in front of officers and enlisted, he would see it as a worse look to validate his statement by turning it into a big issue or trying to assert his authority with an iron fist, when it is better to be the bigger man here. Brandon is also very aware of the agreements between the UA and Company, and he would also not be surprised the executive refused to interact with him, nor is he bound to do so (even though this is his ship.) It is more than likely an internal company issue has arisen and one that is meant for their ears only - the CL and corporate personnel already have quite the autonomy on USCM vessels and this wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary for the executive to turn his back on Brandon and be all secretive. It is not worth making a fuss over when Brandon can just wait for the situation to pass and remember the name of the contractor who isn’t as in the know as those who are more understanding of why he’s here, alongside the executive if he does anything more unprofessional.

As such, Brandon would probably make a remark how the visiting corpos represent more than their opinions when they step onto his deck, reminding them of their need for professionalism between the two conglomerates while this would also assure his marine peers that he isn’t a pushover. Afterwards, the next time he has a coffee chat with his corporate connections, he can just mention the behavior of these individuals to the top of the chain, which will encourage them to both maintain their corporate image and give the contractor problems that could’ve been avoided with a polite greeting or mutual professionalism expected from a visitor. It is more than likely the next time an executive visits, he and his guards will not take the same actions.

Building off the last one, it’s not worth making a huge fuss over a petty insult. Brandon would view this as him just being tested/joshed around, and diffuse the situation with humor. Even if it was intended to be a full outright insult, humor is a great tool to diffuse the situation here. He might make a joking remark of “careful, major. If I were that much of a risk, they wouldn’t have let you aboard!” He would then follow this up with a statement like “but you are a guest on my ship. I’ll give you the same courtesy I’d expect visiting yours, which makes both of our lives easier,” reminding the visiting officer of their position’s professionalism and respect that should be given between officers, especially as they are a guest and makes the VO look bad for not upholding to good conduct for an officer.

I have encountered a situation close to this before and I know exactly how it felt watching it play out. It is very impressive that this gunny managed to kill the queen in a master flank, however; the loss of marines under his command, direct insubordination, and the fact this was a massive risk that could of easily backfired and led to further consequences is not to be overlooked. Orders are given for the good of the operation, and the strategic benefit of the marines. The commander has to apply their orders strategically while the SL should apply it tactically, a co-op system that makes plans work. An order is not a suggestion to be worked around, but rather given for strategic needs as the battle progresses. Hell, Brandon might’ve even allowed it as flanks can be highly beneficial. Considering that, as important and powerful as the Queen is, she was a non-factor being alone in the backlines, she is replaceable, and the hive is more than capable of fighting at the sand temple in her absence or pulling back and playing defensively (considering it’s LV caves, the terrain itself is all you need.) Their squad is now without guidance, two marines are lost in what could’ve been a complete suicide mission (worse if they’re capped), and it’s also extremely unbecoming for the SL to act this way. A squad leader is in charge of their entire squad, and should act fitting of the role. They are not autonomous commandos to just ignore their squaddies, they are leaders first who are trusted to provide the needed tactical guidance on the ground.

While there was a point this was salvagable, in this scenario the Gunny has already committed major insubordination and is now a risk to the operation should he continue to neglect his post and leave his squad abandoned. I would have him replaced on OW (if he wasn’t already) before ordering him back over comms/phone to FOB or face further charges of Desertion. Should he turn himself in, I would inform him back shipside of the lost marines and that going on an unauthorized mission as risky which could’ve been just as strategically detrimental is not fitting for his role. I would also acknowledge that this was impressive, however, avoidable casaulties is never worth it. Brandon cares deeply for his marines and any plans/manoeuvers that may throw them into an unnecessary grave he deeply resents, no matter the ends. I would also remind him of his duties as SL is to his squad, not his personal glories.

Should the latter occur, and he maintains how command’s orders are nonsensical and continues to go off and do his own thing, I would mark him as a deserter. I would deploy with some MPs and take some marines with me to bring him into our custody and take him back shipside. If this confrontation escalates and he defends himself violently, I would BE him as countermanding my orders to this extent poses a heavy risk to the operation, undermines my command, and his defense now poses risk to my own life and my fellow marines.

+1, Brookfield is one of those rare players that I assumed was already on the CO WL. He takes so naturally to leadership and his engagement with his fellow marines is such that I would happily follow him. This is an easy +1 for me. The man is a treasure and the CM community would be remise if it passed on someone so passionate and a joy to be around.

Really good leadership, I’ve played under their command as a SL a few times now. Also, extremely good at RP.
I’ve also seen you around as a CL a couple of times, good RP there as well.

Good luck, godspeed!
