Synthetic Info:

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Dixon

Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory

Dixon was designed as a deep sea diver, developed in tandem with a new line of self sufficient diving support barges for export to the frontier and outer-rim. Dixon was meant to be a safer, more lucrative alternative for companies than sending traditional divers into frontier and outer-rim territories. The synthetic model offers a wide range of benefits for sub-sea engineering companies as diver synthetics are capable of operating at extreme depths that far exceed human capability, and negate the need for costly life support systems.

The synthetic model provided a competitive edge to sub-sea engineering companies in the outer-rim and were coveted assets of the companies that operated it. Dixon units could be used to supplement traditional dive-teams as medical responders and hazard divers, or operate individually. However, following the rise of dissidence and increased economic pressure in the frontier and outer-rim, many companies operating the Dixon unit went bankrupt, and the synthetic models were then seized and repurposed by the United America’s Colonial Navy and Colonial Marine Corps as underwater construction team support synthetics on military installations and military sites. On some USCM vessels in the outer-rim, Dixon synthetic units take the role as support synthetics.

Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions

Dixon is a thalassophile, meaning he has a deep affinity for the ocean. Dixon’s hobbies are marine biology and oceanology, in conversation Dixon might make remarks or connections about marine-life. Dixon will also try to use words in informal conversation that connects with the ocean, for example he may refer to areas of darkness as “abyssal,” or compare a facehugger hiding underneath a table to a stone fish camouflaging itself.

Additionally, as Dixon’s roots come from the south in the bayou state of Louisiana, Dixon carries himself with a slight hint of Southern Hospitality on the side. Dixon will always be trying to welcome others in his, and himself into other’s good graces by offering snacks to people he’s conversing with. For example, Dixon might offer a MEAT bar or Kepler chips to a marine during a conversation before they part as a sign of goodwill and an informal invitation to talk again sometime. Its no chicken steak or crawfish boil, but its something.

How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?

With well established superiors like the XO and CE, Dixon would subdue his hospitality as he would want to avoid putting superiors in potentially uncomfortable situations that could unintentionally disrupt the precedence and superiority of higher ranking members. Offering small gifts to superiors is not something Dixon would do as it could be seen as unprofessional and would disrupt the formality of the relationship between Dixon and his superiors. He also recognizes that superior officers, and key personnel like squad leaders demand a degree of formality that requires him to speak plainly without making references to his hobby, or small connections towards marine life unless it is seen as explicitly permissible.

With enlisted personnel, Dixon would have no trouble offering small ‘gifts’ during conversations or making references to marine life if applicable. For example, in a scenario where Dixon is in the mess hall with other marines who are eating carp dishes, Dixon might the observation that carp have whiskers, a trait usually only seen in ground mammals.

In a scenario where Dixon is disrespected, Dixon would act differently depending on who is implicated. If an officer like an IO were to call Dixon a “skinjob” and pushed him out of the way, Dixon would acknowledge the IO and leave the area if possible to prevent further quarrel, even if Dixon hadn’t done anything to instigate the other party.

Alternatively, if a marine were to walk up to Dixon and act crude, Dixon would respond dismissively, and ignore the marine. Dixon will not act in a way that inspires antagonism in the other party, however will convey himself in a way that shows his disappointment in the marine’s behavior.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

I always found the idea of being a synthetic really intriguing, all of the potential gameplay and roleplay possibilities that can come with the synthetic WL really lure me in. Another big part to why I would hope to have the synthetic whitelist one day is that synthetic players bring a lot of atmosphere to the game for me, and their defined personas really create another layer of immersion for players. I hope that one day I can offer that to other players too and create fun and interesting interactions. The mechanical aspects of synthetics and play style ‘constraints’ of the role also really draw me in, its a whole other way of playing the game and a completely different perspective and role that I hope I can explore.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?

Support roles are my favorite roles on CM, and as such are among my most played roles. For medical, I am able to do surgery by memory without complication, I also know how to do bootleg surgery as a plus. I know how to make all the common chems by memory, and generally I think I am a competent doctor in handling triage, with almost 300 hours in medical roles. Engineering is by far my favorite and most played role, among knowing cade-theory I also know how to make intricate engineering traps utiziling signallers and chutes. I am able to fix APCs and repair comms alone, I am also confident in creating FOB fortifications solo when the time comes. Requisitons is a role I’ve played a lot and got to understand over the years, with around 140 hours in requisitions, I am confident in running requisitions alone. Doing tasks like adressing supply requests and dealing with the line quickly come as second nature to me. For command, I used to be a pretty avid XO player racking almost 170 hours on XO. I still am a pretty active SL player however, and know how to coordinate supply drops, lead troops on the frontline, and communicate with command and the marines effectively.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

As a rule of thumb, participating in combat is usually reserved as a last resort for self preservation, or as a necessary measure to preserve the life of marines around you. Even when combat is used, it should only be used as a deterrence through wounding.

Scenario 1: I am walking south of Nexus when I spot a group of marines engaging a lurker. One of the marines get pounced, but there are two other marines with them so I do not intervene as they are capable of handling the threat themselves. They do not require my assistance in this scenario as they are more than capable. However, if there was a lone marine at the same spot getting targeted by a lurker I would move to shake them up to assist them. I would only attack the lurker with a weapon if the marine was incapable of fighting back, such as in a scenario where would’ve been in critical condition or devoured.

Scenario 2: I am at the triage near the front line, when suddenly the front collapses. A crusher breaks through and starts slashing the crit marines in triage, my priority would be rescuing my patient by fire-man carrying him back to safety, not engaging the crusher.

Scenario 3: I am fixing generators alone as the initial comms squad rolls out towards the frontline. A lurker ambushes me and slashes me. Initially, I disengage and try to run to safety without injuring the lurker. However if the lurker were to keep trailing me towards my retreat back to barricades while wounding me, I would take a weapon out and hit it while making my retreat to discourage it from giving chase.

Scenario 4: Front just wiped, and im fire-man carrying a marine back to the FOB on my back who is in critical condition. A runner chases me, attempting to steal the rifleman, however I pick the rifleman back up and begin hit the runner while I am running away as it pounces me. The runner does this a few times and eventually goes crit, however I do not kill the runner as the threat is subdued.

Final Info:

Have you been banned in the last month?

No

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?

Huge thanks to everyone who helped me with my application. My dms are open for any questions, just fire away. On another note, I didnt go on a very traditional route with my story as I used some images and really dissected the other characters in the story, but I really do hope it adds to the experience of it. Also to note, a lot of my skills from roles are interchangeable, eg. all my survivor hours are invested into engineering survivor. If anyone wants me to post hours down there im also cool to do it. I really do hope the story was a good read!

Sergeyevich is a highly skilled player in almost every mechanical aspect of CM. On top of that, his RP skills are, in my opinion, extremely good in most circumstances.

I’ll happily give him my +1

I have no questions regarding your ability to follow guidelines and the rules, even more those presented with the Synthetics programming.

I also had the pleasure of roleplaying with you along these last years, i can easily say that it would be a hell of a good experience to meet Dixon with your dedication in this game.
Medeelel probably knows even more than i do in Engineering and Medical combined, no questions there.

I lack the whitelist but i can assure them that your addition to the team would be a biiiiig plus.

You got my +1 !!!

I can definetly say Medeelel is an excellent player when it comes to technical aspects of the game, he saved my dog(Mr Wiggles) out of the burning colony many times. I dont doubt his roleplaying ability either, he has been in this community long enough to have a deep understanding of the lore and the feeling of the marine corps.

One of the most robust marines I’ve played with, and although I haven’t had a ton of interactions with you, they’ve all been positive. +1

Hell yeah, sergey is a very mechanically experienced player and is also a great RPer from the years of interactions I’ve had with them in-game. Ngl, he’s probably gonna main synth surv for 200 hours…

Didnt expect this but it makes a lot of sense now since you’re a very good support player

You’re one of the very very few people who has an immense amount of time and knowledge in this game, across a wide set of roles, who also maintains a level of RP and levelheadedness IC. You are always someone I look forward to interacting with, because i know it’ll be more than just wordlessly being pointed at or riffed on for being less knowledgable than you. You take time to do support roles well while interjecting conversations and making the overall vibe of being around you feel genuine and kind of exciting, in a way.

I think of when you were echo and working on transformer bases on fob rework testmerge. I always liked seeing your work, and i know it was technically the doomspell for a loss, but having to go back and stage at transformers with you always was really nice and a round movement that i actually welcomed. I’d look forward to seeing you on the synth WL

+1 very competent and knowledgable player. If i had a perfect OP crew list, Sergey would 100% be in top 15 spot. One of the veterans who does not mess around and is reliable

Leavin my +1 here since I have had good interactions with Omsk hes always helped me figure some stuff out if i didn’t know it and is one of the people I know who can actually drive someone else to improve

Hello, thank you for your interest in the whitelist.

Your character looks good, inspired, and well thought out.

Your story is also quite a nice read, good work there.

You’ve got an outpouring of community support from a variety of different kinds of players, it’s always nice to see someone is making a good impact on those around them.

Having seen you in game, I don’t have many concerns about your ability to roleplay, nor about the mechanical standards.

Moving on,

Your combat answers were inspired, you did a really good job with these and I think they show a very nuanced read of the guidelines and what they mean, both literally and in terms of the spirit of the whitelist.

I’m not 100% devoid of concerns, so I’d like to give you some questions to get a read on how you’d respond to different scenarios. There’s no correct answers here, but your answers will share how you think and play.

  1. You get lunged by a warrior, slashed a few times, then flung back into the marine lines. A PFC helps you up, says “that looked bad, must have hurt. Need me to help patch you up?” How do you respond?

  2. As you deploy on the third drop, you notice a commotion, a delta engineer has apparently built the following barricades and bravo is really not happy with that, tensions are high and a fight seems likely to occur soon, do you intervene? if so, what is your priority?

  3. What actions would you take if you’re on the ship and nobody is seemingly interested in roleplaying with you?

  4. You’re a synth survivor, and the survivors you have been accompanying thus far decide to go for a risky hive dive, Like this example, We’ll say in this example they went for it without pre-planning this or warning you they’d be doing something risky.

How do you react? What actions do you take to ensure you maintain your responsibilities to keep yourself safe? What are your priorities and how do they change as one, or both of the survivors dies?

Sup, thanks for the questions and also for the support from people in this application, it means a lot. I hope my answers arent too long.

As for your questions:

  1. Assuming we’re not being totally destroyed at the front-line and that there’s some leeway to create an interaction, the scene might look something like this:

RFN: “That looked bad, must have hurt. Need me to help patch you up?”
Dixon: *Looks down at his limbs before shaking his head
Dixon: Thanks for the helping hand, i’ve got it, it ain’t too bad.

If the RFN seems interested, I could extend the chat by offering him something like a MEAT bar or comparing the warrior’s fling to the punch of a mantis-shrimp, allowing him time to respond before parting.

  1. My job is a support synthetic, not a ground-side MP/conflict mediator, also the amount of tangible ‘authority’ I would have is limited, this is more of a matter for an SO or deployed commander to adress. If for example the Bravo CT and Delta CT were shoving and punching each other, I wouldn’t try to break up the fight. Instead I would get the attention of the Delta CT and imply that the frontline/comms could use fortifications to the Delta comtech as a way to try to give the CT a reasonable exit from the conflict. Therefore the Delta CT isnt let without anything to do, and the Bravo CTs are able to build FOB as they’d signed up for.

My priority is to ensure that FOB is able to be constructed and that conflict doesnt start. If conflict were to start, and they were to begin shoving and hitting each other, I wouldn’t have much realistic options other than to let them fight for a while and break off. Using my CQC skills to disarm one party and tell them to “chill” isn’t something that I would consider doing. The cades are objectively bad, and the FOB is Bravo’s domain so in this scenario it will probably end with several bravo’s beating, shoving down, and throwing him out before dismantling their fortifications. I would not intervene.

  1. It’s not my job or in my right to force RP onto other people and put them into scenarios where they have to engage with me. I would check the crew monitor to see if any departments were understaffed and offer help. If medbay was understaffed and only had one doctor who was unable to handle the patients, I would assist by performing surgeries on excess waiting patients. However, this does not mean I speed through the patients and leave the doctor without anything to do. I will make an effort to ensure the current doctor on shift gets priority for patients, and for any patient I treat I will ensure that they are “spillover” cases, who would have normally had to otherwise wait a long time to get surgery.

If no departments were understaffed, I would do menial but useful tasks like stocking the chemfridge or making myself more pills than usual to keep myself busy, for example making tricord and oxy pills

  1. When groundside and facing xenomorph infestation without rescue, the threat level is Delta, so my combat restrictions are somewhat loosened, and I would be able to more aggressively follow my fellow survivors in whatever they’re participating in. However in these scenarios, spirit of the WL is very important as synthetics have an advantage in fighting xenomorphs (especially t1s) compared to survivors. This means I would not initiate fights or pursue combatants as that is behaviour that is typically frowned upon (and quite frankly, really unfair lol). However I would participate in combat to a limited extent in order to ensure our collective survival, such as aiding survivors in beating drones weeding around us and chasing xenos with the other survivors to a more limited extent. Stuff like chasing a crit drone being dragged away with a fire axe and finishing it off is mostly prohibited barring exceptional circumstances and is absolutely not something I would be doing. I would behave primarily as a first responder, giving medical attention such as splinting fractured teammates, shaking them up to prevent stuns, and warning them of xeno’s they cannot see in the dark.

If my survivor companions during this hive assault were to die, I would immediately disengage, and if possible beat back a xeno to retrieve a body of one of my teammates and defiblirate them in safety. I am not there to be a “risk assessment” robot and tell my teammates that they shouldn’t do x or y, I am there to support them and ensure my survival, and our collective survival.

So yes, I would follow them during their hive assault however I would not play a spearheading role in it, things like taking down the hivecore and killing xenos is their job, not mine. My job is to make sure they and myself dont die.

This man is an animal… but he’s also someone I’ve played a lot of rounds with and he does have a brain in there. Surprisingly and he can think and breath at the same time (very challenging).

I think interacting with Dixon. No pun intended will be a breath of fresh air. I don’t have questions for ya but you’ve got a +1. You’ll enjoy the change up being a Synthetic brings.

A +1 from me. I always have a good time with Omsk, if you don’t count the time he wanted me to drink holy water. Skilled and robust player in most areas of the game.

+1, this man knows how to RP as a coward marine, aswell as I can vouch for his ability in each mechanic of the game.

I’ll toss my support into the pile. I’ve had tons of personal experience with you because we play survivor together pretty often, dating back quite some time, and your mechanical skill is not in question. In my opinion, he’d be a good fit for the whitelist, since he’s also shown me he can roleplay when it’s called for. I hope the Barotrauma synth becomes real soon. +1

Not sure if i can say anything that wasn’t already said without being repetitive, however, one of the most robust marines around that can also roleplay extremely well.

Would love to see him as Synth, and I’m pretty sure he will do extremely well at it. +1
