I woke up this morning, did a few things, and got on my computer to hop on some CM. When logging in, it says that im banned for the usage of slurs.
I spend like a good 5 minutes just thinking, what slur, thought its a stickyban so I considered messaging an administrator, ended up messaging moonshanks on clarification on the ban and apprently I was contacted, however I must’ve left the game running on when I was in the shower (around 1:40AM at the time, everybody goes to sleep late here in Morreira) so that would probably searched about half of the words I may have used yesterday and found out that the word “gook” which i’ve used on CM, well quite a bit is apparently a racial slur against Korean people.
Im not trying to play dumb when I say this but I had 0 idea that this was even a slur, when I searched up the british english definition of the word it came up with just being sticky and repulsive (SADAR ffing and that shit). Im not calling people racial slurs, I literally never have on CM, tg, bee, tgmc, literally anything. I have never been banned for anything racist.
I speak British english, not American english, I grew up in Mongolia and Hong Kong, we speak British English there and I have literally heard the term “gook” used a total of 0 times in any derogative racially condescending context, i’ve looked up about 5-6 dictionary websites just now and all of them have the adjective usage of the word being slimy, sticky, (Imgur: The magic of the Internet British, Spanish, usage of the word, what a coincidence, im a Spanish Mongolian who grew up in Mongolia, Hong Kong, Spain.) its like a synonym for the word “goop”. I’m banned for a whole week for using a word that has a completely different meaning that my language uses, with a completely different connotation and meaning at 4AM well after I logged off, with 0 ahelp, 0 message, just a straight 7 day ban for slurs, in which my ban reason isnt even defined.
I mean the reason for my ban is completely unreasonable considering the circumstances, its about got no reason to be held as a racial slur for about what I’d imagine half of the people in the community and this news is probably as new to them as it is to me, maybe im ignorant but it literally says its used against East, South East Asian people and i’ve never heard it in my time abroad even in the US, i’v’e never seen “Gook” used as a slur. Its for a lack of a word pretty unfair that you’ve banned me at roughly 4AM, without a shred of contact, specification, or even reasoning other than “slur” which you slapped a 7Day ban on, all because there are two very defined definitions of the word, one being American English (being massively racist apparnetly) and in British English being used as a ajdective to describe certain things or used as an ajdective on people
