Rosa ‘Tin Can’ Teagarden, Carmen ‘Gargoyle’ Beauregard (it’s not spelled Beauregard and is some other spelling but I cannot check at the moment.) KIN
Why do you want to become a Mentor?:
I’ve been a part of the community long enough that I’d like to take up a position I’ve held in other SS13 servers as a community mentor. I dearly enjoy helping newer players learn one of my favorite games and hopefully help them enjoy it as much as I do.
What gameplay areas do you know and which areas are you strong and weak in?:
In terms of marines, I’m absolutely my strongest in CAS/Anything to do with drop ships, field engineering, and field medicine. I’m moderately proficient in the general combat roles save for Demolitionist and Scout, actual surgery, and command positions. I’d say I’m the least competent in anything to do with being an MP, CL, and ship side engineering. In terms of xenomorph gameplay, I’ve got what I would consider great understanding of Drones, Hivelords, Runners, Lurkers, Defenders, Warriors, Base and Valkyrie Praetorian, and Queen. I’ve got a moderate understanding of Sentinels and Spitters, Carriers and Burrowers, with very little knowledge of Boilers, All Ravagers, and the other Praetorian strains, aside from knowing the abilities they have.
How often are to able to play CM?:
Provided my laptop has not exploded, I’m typically able to play daily. This may change with the upcoming semester, but I’d expect to still be able to play at least 3-4 times a week at the worst.
A screenshot or transcript of your human and xeno playtimes:
I do not intend my SEA to be Rosa, who I consider too loud and ill mannered to be an advisor, or Carmen, who has professionalism but lacks friendliness. I’ll be making a new character tailored to the role. I also am presently unable to play Colonial Marines at this time because my laptop blew up. I’m working on getting it fixed.
+1, good player and i believe this person would make a great mentor from seeing them play as almost all roles - pred, marine, xeno, anything they care about other peoples enjoyment and do their best to teach others.
Incredibly helpful player who explained how CAS works to me in discord. Also a rare case where someone makes a character loud and boisterous without ever being rude or unkind. Would absolutely make an awesome mentor, +1
+1, helpful beyond words, especially with things in the realm of aux combat support; though i think i’ve actually been helped out by you the most when you were KIN!
always really fun to roll with on groundside as carmen too.
Hi, Jester.
It’s wonderful to see that your application has the support and backing of the community. Although I may not have seen you in person, I believe it’s safe to say that people have had a generally positive impression of you so far. I’d love to ask you a few questions to better understand how you might respond in the following scenarios and Mhelps. Best of luck!
MHelp questions:
“I’m working as a doctor, but there is a patient who came up to me saying that he has a mutated arm. How do I treat it?”
“There isn’t a right foot option in the prosthetic printer. How do I attach a right foot prosthetic?”
“How do I make epinephrine pills? What dosage should I use per pill?”
“I’ve seen doctors make certain surgical steps instant when treating a hugged Marine. How can I do that?”
Scenario questions where you are the SEA:
The Captain asks you to arrest a marine who is actively being disruptive during the hangar briefing by constantly stacking chairs and toppling them over repetitively. What would you do in this scenario? And what charges would that marine incur?
A late-stage hugged marine is brought shipside, seconds away from bursting. There are no doctors and the ship’s only researcher is busy operating on another marine. What would you do in this case?
You are running requisitions solo as the SEA, as there are no other QMs or cargo techs available to manage supplies. A groundside marine requests an M3-VL pattern ballistic vest, claiming he needs it to outrun the xenos. Where can the M3-VL vest be found in cargo, and what steps should you take to send it groundside?
The CMO is busy making UNGA and asks you to attend to the chemline since there are 5 medics waiting for their meds to be made. What would you do in response?
+1, Carmen is easily one of my favorite player in CM. She’s always been helpful, friendly, and dutiful. She possess a wide breadth of knowledge for both sides and I’d be more than happy to see her share that knowledge with others in a more official capacity.
Gosh, these are all really fun! I’ll be answering these in order of what I know exactly, and what I needed to look up first ( alongside how long it took me to look up and find what I needed)
“Howdy! Mutated arms are often symptoms of clone damage! You can treat this kind of damage by utilizing the Cryo Cells located in the middle of medbay. Make sure the attached cooling unit is turned on, and put the injured marine inside! When they are fully recovered, the marine will be spat out on the floor. It can’t hurt to give them one more proper scan in a body scanner before sending them off, though!”
“Hello! There aren’t options for feet and hands in the printers, yes. The prosthetic right leg functions simultaneously as a full right leg and a right foot, depending on what limb you’re aiming at. Simply switch your aim to the right foot, and perform the following steps! If they lost an organic limb, scalpel followed by either surgical line or Fix-O-Vein to seal the stump (this step can be performed by corpsman, so you may not need to!), attach the new robotic limb by clicking on your patient with it in hand while aimed at the right limb, tighten it with either a hemostat or your hand on help intent, and finally calibrate it with just your hand on help intent. Voila! You’ve now create your brand new marine cyborg. Remember to advise them to carry around welding equipment and cable coil to maintain their new limb! Important to note, if a patient has lost a cybernetic limb that needs replacing, the only change is that the beginning of the surgery to replace that limb changes to need a surgical drill.”
“Hiya! While I’m happy to tell you epinephrine is made by mixing equal parts carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen, I must also inform you that epinephrine is highly ineffective in pill form. Epinephrine is best utilized as a liquid medicine, injected into patients who have died and need to be revived. Any patient with epinephrine in their system will be healed for more upon being defibrillated!” (For this one I’m not certain if epinephrine flat out doesn’t metabolize when ingested, and code diving on my phone is a lesson in futility that I can barely stand. If I get my laptop in working order before this is up I’ll change this to a defined “it’s impossible for epinephrine to metabolize and be used in pill form” if that is indeed the case.)
“Hello! Certain surgical steps are capable of being hastened at the cost of injury to your patient. By performing these surgical steps on Disarm Intent (the blue one in the top right), you’ll instantly complete the step at the cost of injuring whoever you’re operating on. You may instantly perform widening a surgical incision with a scalpel, and opening up the rib cage with a retractor. This is most commonly used for late stage parasite surgeries, where every second counts! Best of luck!” (Looked up specifically what surgical steps could be skipped, took about a minute via mobile device)
SEA questions -
As the SEA, I’m not a part of the military police, nor am I permitted to be deputized. If there was truly an emergency (and I’m absolutely not counting chair stacking during briefing as an emergency) then I would be within my ability to detain a marine. Primarily though I should always be calling for and requesting MPs for anything like this. In this particular scenario, I’d inform the captain of this fact regarding my inability to arrest marines, call for any currently active MPs to respond to the captain’s request, and, if none are awake, offer an NJP of something small and relatively quick to perform, like “mop this section of the Hangar.” With the caveat that the marine may leave their NJP early if the drop ship is about to leave without them. (Had to look up what an NJP was, I was already aware of my inability to act as surrogate cop)
This one is a huge toughie. At the risk of potential overstepping what my character as SEA would know, I think I’d take the hugged marine to the researcher performing surgery and, while urging them to switch to the higher priority surgical target, slowly begin to perform the steps for larva removal surgery, ideally while avoiding the use of proper tools (boot knife instead of a scalpel, for instance). If I’m able to get far enough to breaking their ribs open, I’d likely stop there and resume encouraging the researcher to help the hugged marine, as I “don’t know where and how to cut to avoid melting the fella.” I want to balance the fact that I shouldn’t know all the steps to larva surgery with the fact that bursting shipside due to something out of your control, like a lack of surgical staff, frankly ain’t very fun.
For this one, I’d likely remind the marine that standard light armor wouldn’t slow him down any more than the ballistic vest would, and if he were exceptionally insistent on receiving one I’d double check with either of the flight officers or crew chiefs to see if they have a spare vest. If they don’t, then I’d tell the marine I’m unable to accommodate his request, as I’m fairly certain the m3-VL vest is only accessible to certain role’s prep lockers and the red alert armories.
This one is fortunately, much easier than the hugged marine question. Making UNGA is not an emergency, and thus I’m not gonna entertain the notion of going into the chemline to make it for even a moment. I’m against the idea of UNGA, anywho, but I respect other folks desires to use it. Instead as SEA, I’d remind marines to be packing bandages and splints by stuffing them into helmets or pockets, or some other form of general medical advice that my SEA would be likely to know. Something like “you can also tuck auto injectors into your helmet alongside those bandages!”
Thank you very much for presenting these questions to me, and I hope I answered them well!
Thanks for taking the time to write your response. I’ll provide a breakdown of your answers and provide a general overview of what I’m looking for.
MHelp Questions
You’ve correctly identified that the mutated limb is a symptom of clone damage. Fantastic work. Just a small clarification: while cryo cells are an important part of the treatment, they don’t heal clone damage on their own. That’s where clonexadone and cryoxadone come in. They are the chems that actually repair clone damage but since they only work at low temperatures, they need to be used with a cryo cell. Therefore, a beaker of clonexadone/cryoxadone needs to be prepped and inserted into the Cryo cell and activated before the marine is placed inside.
Outstanding work. Minor nitpick is that once excessive flesh is removed from the missing limb with a scalpel, the veins must also be repaired with Fix-o vein before the stump is sealed. However, I love that you not only demonstrate an approachable disposition when you are answering your Mhelp questions, but you also provide clear and concise reasonings and instructions. Nicely done!
Perfect answer.
You have correctly identified that using a scalpel can widen an incision in an instant and also demonstrate the negative tradeoffs of instant surgery. Fantastic work.
However, the ribcage cannot be opened right after this with a retractor. A circular saw on disarm intent can instantly break the rib cage, which can then lead to the rib cage being forced open with a retractor. You can also optionally further expand on your answer by advising the player that the disarm intent will automatically switch back to help intent after each surgical step is completed, and that the larva parasite can also be removed by hands as opposed to a hemostat to remove the larva faster, but at the cost of damaging their organs and the surgeon incurring slight burn damage.
Scenario questions:
Good answer. Due to the marine committing an act of hooliganism by being unable to conduct one’s self in a briefing, NJP or calling the MP’s are the correct answer.
This is a tough question, indeed. While you did correctly identify that you cannot perform surgery if there are personnel who can and are willing to perform surgery, this also means that you cannot perform bone sawing as well, as it is considered an advanced surgery step. In the event that you think you need to do surgery, you need to first check whether you have exhausted all other available options first and foremost, such as the surgical staff being unresponsive to multiple requests to perform their duties. If after reasonable effort to get medical help has been made and there is no discernible indication that the patient will be receiving help, only then can you perform hugged surgeries as a last resort.
Good attempt, but not quite. This is perhaps one of the hardest questions I’ve asked and is intended to test your current understanding of SOP.
You have correctly identified that M3-VL is accessible to only certain prep lockers and red alert armouries. You have also correctly identified that you cannot hand out armoury items. Well done!
I think you missed this question in the scenario. The M3-VL ballistic vests can be found in the south-east part of Cargo behind the armoury shutters. But seeing as you have correctly identified that they are found in red alert armouries, I will move on to the next part of the breakdown.
While you understand that that armoury items cannot be handed out, you also need to demonstrate that you cannot ask other personnel to distribute them either. You provided a response saying that you will ask flight personnel if they can spare a vest.
Under the assumption you are referring to the M3-VL ballistic vests located in a saferoom north of the Normandy pad, which are accessible to flight crew, these vests are still considered armoury items, despite being placed just outside the armoury shutters. To my general knowledge, the placement of these vests are a result of mapping design rather than an intentional effort to make them widely available to enlisted personnel. Due to this reasoning, it’s likely that they are intended for red or delta alert situations.
Therefore, flight crew cannot authorize the distribution of these vests. Doing so would be a direct violation of non-modifiable Standard Operating Procedure. As an SEA, you are expected to uphold SOP and provide guidance that protects all parties involved. Asking flight crew to hand out restricted gear would not only result in a breach of SOP on your part, but also implicate them in the process.
Good answer.
Overall feedback
Overall, I genuinely believe you have the potential to be a fantastic addition to the mentor team. Not only do you seem to possess the positive personality the community has grown to admire, you also demonstrate a solid grasp of core concepts and have a basic understanding of the mentor code of conduct - all of which are all promising traits. However, there are some gaps in your broader knowledge, such as basic surgical procedures, and many of your answers seem to rely more on research than firsthand experience.
While no one expects you to be an expert in every field (many mentors, including myself, have our own weak spots), I strongly encourage you to keep building your understanding in other areas, including medical mechanics and marine law/SOP.
The more practical knowledge you have, the easier it becomes to guide others without needing to rely on the wiki or other online resources. This is especially important given how frequently the game changes, often faster than the wiki can keep up. It can be tough to teach new nurses or players if you’re constantly looking up information, especially if the mechanics you’ve looked at are outdated and no longer relevant to the current stage of the game.
For this reason, I will withhold from giving either a -1 or a +1 for now, just in case another mentor would like to follow up with another set of questions to test your knowledge of the game. You’re definitely on the right track though, keep going!
Ah, very small clarification regarding the M3 vests question! Given that Crew Chiefs and Pilot Officers get to vend the M3 ballistic vest as part of their standard equipment, and given my experience playing both those roles where I know. I don’t typically use those vests, I don’t currently consider the vest vended from the pilot prep lockers to be locked under red alert procedures. It has been about a week since I’ve been able to play, though, and I may be misremembering POs and DCCs ability to vend M3 ballistic vests as part of their equipment. Safe room equipment would of course remain locked until a sufficient emergency presented itself.
Aside from that, thank you so much for taking the time both to ask me these and respond in detail with how I can improve! I really, really appreciate it.
I think you might be talking about the M3-VL Flak Vest? That’s an understandable mix-up. The Flak vest does bear similar identification name as the ballistic vest!
+1 Jester has shown themselves to be amicable and easy to interact with, whilst still building their knowledge of the game. I think they’d be a good addition, and their knowledge in slop roles like Gunship Pilot which most of the mentorhelps nowadays are about will be useful
Hey hey! I see you around regularly and can confidently report that you are a fun, engaging, kind person. I have no doubts that you have the character to be a mentor, and I think someone with your personality would be a wonderful addition to the team. However, I do think that the hours in general are a little low- 30 hours as a RFN, about 20 combined hours in medical roles, and those are the absolute basics. Pretty frequently there are questions about more niche aspects of the game, so I’ll throw you a few example Mhelps:
I’m trying to empower but it’s not working? Like I don’t see the red box thingies
What’s the spitter combo everybody keeps talking about?
HELP THE CL ATE A MONKEY CUBE
I took a break for a couple years and I came back and now all my windows are super big. I swear they were never this big before. How do I fix this?
My UI is gone?!?! Like I can’t see any of my equipped items or my hands or anything. (Hint: While telling someone to clear their cache or close and reopen the game is a good first trouble shooting step, it’s not the answer here!)
Do I have to add the !number every time I want to speak in a different language?!
This synth got decapped and they want me to fix it, how? I’m a doctor but I don’t have engineering skills or anything.
Howdy! First off, to assuage your worries, those hours I posted are massively out of date. I can’t get a new screenshot of my hours due to my terminal “laptop exploded” condition, but I’ve since gotten well over a fifty hours in both rifleman and medical roles (provided corpsman counts as a medical role).
Now, onto your questions! Which are absolutely really tough, and thank you for picking these hard ones. I have a blast with them.
Ravager is easily my least played caste, and I can’t do my usual thing of “playing a round to figure out the question”. So!
“Howdy! Ravager’s empower is a two part ability. Your first activation begins to charge up, and only upon pressing it a second time will you see those red boxes! They’ll appear under marines that are close enough to you, and they’ll take damage if they stay in them for too long!”
I fully understand i may be super off base for that, but that’s the best I’ve got for now.
“The spitter combo is a classic, high burst combo that massively damages a single target. You perform it by landing an empowered spit on a target while approaching them, hit an acid spray to knock them prone (acid spray on marines with acid dripping off of them will cause them to go prone) followed by a tail stab to inject more acid. Successfully pulling this off will severely injure if not outright kill your target!”
“Don’t worry! The CL can still be saved. If the CL isn’t already near a doctor or a synth, make sure you get them to one as quickly as possible. They are capable of performing a monkey cube removal surgery, which will save the Liaison! Now, if you’re the surgeon tasked with fixing our dear corporate buddy, the steps to save their life are as follows. While aiming for the chest, use a scalpel, to create the incision, followed by a hemostat to stem the bleeding. Then, use retractors to open up the incision. Next up are the saw and retractors again, to open up the ribcage. At this step, attempt to remove the monkey with a hemostat. If this does not work, utilize your surgical drill (crucially, a different tool than the saw) to open up your patient’s thoracic cavity. Following the surgical drill, use the hemostat again to remove the monkey. Assuming the monkey was indeed in the thoracic cavity, seal the hole with a cautery. Congratulations! The monkey has now been safely removed. You may finish the surgery by treating any organ damage the monkey made with the green trauma kits, and set the rib cage back into place by using a retractor and bone gel. Then, seal the incision with the cautery, and the CL is all good to go!”
This one’s tough, because just saying windows could mean a lot of things. In a prolonged conversation I’d ask for more clarification on what windows they’re talking about, but my best form of troubleshooting for this is gonna be “try navigating to the OOC menu and using the various ‘Fix X’ verbs. If this doesn’t work, then I’m frankly at a loss without some more details on what sort of window is being discussed.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this is an issue with customizing your UI, perhaps with messing with the opacity levels. And while I have zero experience whatsoever with customized UIs and what the menu looks like, I’d say something like “howdy! Try to change the opacity of your UI and see if that helps!” And if that doesn’t work, I’d keep moving from there to source a solution. I’d probably ask what they were doing prior to the UI disappearing, to see if that nets me any clues.
“Not at all! Should you desire to speak a specific language for a prolonged duration, you merely need to set it as your new default language! You can do so either through the languages action in the IC tab, or by pushing a button in the bottom right of your UI, near the targeting UI. Upon doing so, simply click the new default language you desire and talk as normal! You’ll automatically speak that new default language.
“Howdy! Fortunately for you, synthetics are close enough to people that surgical skill will work on them! Re-attaching a synthetic’s head to its body is a very easy process. Using a retractor while aiming for the head, you’ll mend the torn silicon. Then, holding the synthetic head itself, merely click on the body to pop it back on! Reconstruct necessary tissue with a fix-o-vein, and seal it up with a cautery. Finally, get someone to use a Synthetic Reset Key, and your robobuddy is all set to keep on marching on!”
You got one part of this right! What I was aiming for was the fact that this is a two part ability. Many new ravager players are confused that it’s not a one tap. The boxes will appear around marines close enough to you (3 tiles and line of sight) but they don’t damage the marine. Instead, each marine empowers the ravager by granting it more armor. If the ravager empowers from 3 or more marines, it boosts their other abilities.
Correct!
Pretty much! Anyone following these steps would remove the monkey. A minor nitpick would be that anybody who eats a monkey cube always has their ribs broken, so don’t forget to tell them to use bone gel twice and then the bone setter to fix the ribcage. Like I said though, minor and nitpicky.
The “Fix X” verbs are always a good place to start, and asking for clarification is a good idea too. However, in this case I’m aiming for one specific setting - if you have a windows resolution outside of 100%, such as 150%, the byond wide UI update done by Lummox about half a year ago would make your windows extra large. Harry was kind enough to code in an exception - under the edit character menu, settings, game settings column, there’s a “Window Scaling” setting that you can set to smaller zoom. You’re right that this was a hard question, and I wasn’t looking to test your knowledge of deep CM dev lore or anything, but more your familiarity with the game’s settings. Not memorization or anything, but ideally a “hey, I think I saw something about windows in these settings once… let me check.” That being said, this question is unfair given that your laptop is boom and you can’t play CM to check these things. So no, you didn’t have the right answer, but given the circumstances, the extremely niche answer, and the good troubleshooting first steps you had, I think this is a pass. You also strike me as the type of person to continue looking for an answer and not give up. I get the impression you would continue to stick with the person and try and problem solve even if you couldn’t fix it the first time, and to me that’s a quality more important than knowing a niche game setting.
This is also a tricky question with several answers. You’re right that opacity could be the issue, and I like that you’d keep moving to try and find a solution. Asking someone what they were doing beforehand is a good idea. It’s entirely possible that they’ve stumbled upon some new and unknown bug, but the answer to this question that I had in mind is pressing f12 (with the fn key held down) twice disappears your entire UI. Since a). this question could have several answers and b). I’m not sure this is even written down anywhere, I’ll say this is a pass.
Correct!
Also correct!
All in all, I did throw you some hard ones. I won’t lie, even 50 more hours in RFN and HM are still somewhat low hours for a mentor. However, I’m impressed by your answers that showcase a desire to find a solution even if you don’t immediately know it. I’ll freely admit that quite a few mhelps have stumped me. The key is, more than memorization or being a decrepit fossil who’s been playing CM since 2014. I think the most important qualities of a mentor are their character, including a willingness to help that goes above and beyond providing easy answers that are in their repertoire. I’ll give this application my +1, with the caveat that you do go above and beyond like I think you will. For example, looking through the discord and being willing to look through your own copy of the CM code if the wiki doesn’t have the answers.
If you do get accepted as a mentor, I look forward to working with you in the mentor mines! If you don’t, I strongly encourage you to apply again later with your additional hours and experience. Have a good night!
Hi, Jester!
Its good to see more people trying to join the hallowed ivory hall of the mentor whitelist team.
As your hours are quite low across the board, I have more questions to add to the pile, I’m not expecting every answer to be correct, try your best. Feel free to link pages from the wiki as part of your answers!
While the majority of these questions are written as straight-forwardly as possible for the sake of testing your knowledge, you will encounter questions with less than ideal grammar and typos in your tenureship as a mentor.
Additionally, I’d like to apologize for the barrage of questions and I’m sorry to hear your laptop blew up!

Summarize the steps of an arrest, preferably in your own words.
Summarize what weapons MPs are allowed to use on the various alert levels. (Green, blue, red, and delta/hijack.)
Summarize what MPs are allowed to wear on the various alert levels.
Not to worry about the additional questions! Not only do I enjoy answering them, learning from the ones I get wrong is the only surefire way to improve at the moment. As for the laptop, I’ve fortunately come to a solution as of today! I’ll be editing my application with truly updated hours as soon as my new device is up and running. Now, onto answering!
“Howdy! These colors or icons signify a position as a member of staff, or any other group that has been deemed worthy of it as a perk.”
“Hello! Seeing someone use overhead LOOC likely means they’re a member of staff, from mentors to admins. They get this ability to help facilitate important OOC duties, or otherwise get attention in an Out Of Character sense more easily.”
“PvE in the context of Colonial Marines refers to the more story driven, roleplaying rounds run on the dedicated PVE servers. You may find the discord for the PVE server here! (Please pretend I’ve pasted a link to it here this is hard to do on a mobile device) It’s important to note the discord server is required to play in these rounds, as those that run the PVE games use it to announce and post direct links to the server.”
“Thank you so much for letting someone know! In the top right corner, you can easily submit a bug report by filling out a few simple questions. Feel free to leave any you’re uncertain on as N/A, or otherwise blank! Additionally, if you need help getting your character fixed or put back in the map, I’d be happy to promote this to an Ahelp for you!” (I’m not certain how mhelps may differ here, but I’m hoping promotions to Ahelps are still a thing)
“Working Joes are a whitelisted role locked behind our synthetic whitelist! In order to play as a Working Joe, you’ll need to apply for and be accepted as a synthetic! You can find the application for synths here, at (IMAGINARY LINK TO THE SYNTHETIC APPLICATION PAGE ITSELF). Also important for prospective synthetics are the rules and guidelines you’d need to follow, doubly so for a hopeful Working Joe! The programming for all synthetics may be found here (IMAGINARY LINK TO SYNTHETIC PROGRAMMING AND RULES.) if you have any further questions about the synth whitelist, feel free to ask me, or seek guidance from our wonderful synth council on the forums or in our discord!”
“Character nicknames are made the exact way you customize your own name! Simply insert your desired nickname in between your first and last name in the field for changing your name. Typically, you’d indicate this is a nickname by utilization of quotation marks around the nickname.”
HUMAN QUESTIONS
“Hello! Custom emotes are very easy. Simply start by pressing M, or typing *me in the normal Say box to begin a custom emote! Emoting in this way will show your emote as ‘CHARACTER NAME does a silly dance’, for example! Simply type whatever you’d like your character to be doing in the Me box, and hit enter as you would saying something.”
“There are plenty of things that can slow you down! The most important one to check is your hunger. Along the right side of your screen, look for a red hunger meter. Should you find it, this means your character is exceptionally hungry. Food tray vendors can be found in the room where you woke up, or in the large room with tables and chairs. Eating a few trays of food will fill up that bar, and you’ll speed up in no time. It’s important to note you’ll also be slowed if you aren’t wearing shoes, if you’re in a great deal of pain, or if your legs are fractured or outright torn off. If you’re still slowed after eating and ensuring nothing else is the matter, I’d be happy to help figure out what’s slowing you down!”
This third one’s mostly a guess, since I can’t play a round to check and I don’t wear berets with any of my groundside characters.
“Howdy! You can find berets in the set of three vendors found on the western wall of your large prep room, where you can equip your guns. Some roles will also have the ability to vend berets from their specific lockers!”
I’m blanking on auto injectors that start out as purple, so I’m working on the assumption this is some sort of custom injector made by research. “Hello! It’s possible you’ve injected a stimulant made by research into yourself! As for how you died, it falls into one of two cases. Either RnD has created a stim more harmful than helpful, in which case the only solution is to have it leave your system entirely, or you’ve overdosed! Stims will often come labeled with an overdose amount, and it’s important you avoid taking so much of your stim that you overdose!”
“An emergency auto injector contains 25 units each of bicaridine, kelotane, and oxycodone. It is also one of the few auto injectors that anyone can use instantly. You can use it while on the move, potentially saving your life! Be careful, however, as all three of these chemicals have an overdose of 30 units. If you have lingering medicine in you, or get treated by a medic later, you run the risk of injuring yourself further through the harmful overdose.”
“I’m afraid not! Fortunately, if you’ve just fallen, you can still be recovered! Medics, and anyone else with sufficient training, can utilize defibrillators to revive you. You can use the heart rate icon near your body as an indication of time. Green means you’ve died recently, while changes to yellow and flashing red will mean you grow closer to permanent death. Should your character instead display a white skull icon, you have permanently died. While there is no option to come back as a clone, you have the potential to join a variety of ghost roles, ranging from additional marines woken up via command to a team of marshals sent to investigate the Almayer. You also have the option to join the queue for xenomorphs, should you be inclined!”
“Howdy! This is because MREs themselves aren’t food items. They’re containers! By opening them like you would your satchel (typically alt + click) you can now access all the individual food items! Fun fact, after opening a given food item, hold the provided fork and click on it to put food onto the fork. Eating food this way will massively increase the nutrition gained, letting you recover faster.
“Hello! Double check what intent you’re on! That’s the colored boxes in the bottom right corner, near a small outline of a person. The intent you’re looking for is a green one, known as the Help Intent. If you’re punching other people, it’s likely that right now you’re on the red Harm Intent. Simply press 1 or click on the top left box to switch to help intent.”
“It’s entirely possible the comms are down! If you’re groundside, this is due to neither of the comms towers being turned on. Whoever is assigned to comms duty will be required to repair it and supply sufficient power before general communications will work on the ground. If you’re shipside, it’s likely that the SMES batteries were improperly set, and will need to be properly managed before comms will automatically turn back on!”
“Wearing camera gear will allow overwatch officers and anyone else with access to squad cameras to view what you can view. This is most useful when you aren’t wearing a helmet, as helmets come with integrated cameras that provide the same function as camera gear. This way, you can still wear those berets for style without sacrificing the helpful information of camera view!”
“There are multiple kinds of accessories! Some, that are meant for helmets, will fit into the two accessory slots and be easily removable simply by clicking on them while having the helmet storage open. Other accessories, meant for your uniform, can be attached by clicking your uniform with the accessory in hand. To remove any accessories, right click your uniform and click on “Remove Accessories” to open up a selection wheel to remove any of your current accessories.
Fortunately, I’m much more confident with these xeno questions.
“Howdy! Pheromones are an ability certain xenomorphs (drones and their evolutions, the Queen, Praetorians with the Valkyrie strain and the King) can turn on, at the cost of constant plasma drain. There are three pheromone types, Recovery, which increases health and plasma regeneration. Warding, which prolongs the amount of time a xenomorph has in crit before dying. And Frenzy, which increases xenomorph speed and attack speed. Ideally, you’ll always want to have recovery if nothing else.”
“Hello! The hive mind functions as a xeno radio, and is easily accessible by using the radio key. It may also be manually accessed by typing :q into your Say box to use the hivemind communication.”
“Certain xenomorphs, primarily the drone and the runner, are capable of infinitely stunning and dragging a marine off to their new loving home. Other castes are capable of infinitely stunning a marine provided that marine has been hugged. In order to continue stunning these marines, you’ll want to click on or at them while on the Blue Disarm intent, in order to knock them over and stun them.”
“Hello, not to worry! Should you desire to avoid playing Queen entirely, you’re perfectly capable of Ahelping to ensure the smooth transfer of Queen from one xeno to another. Should you desire to play Queen, I’d be happy to come in as an imaginary friend to assist further!”
“Howdy! This is likely due to a lack of recovery pheromones! If you journey closer to xenomorphs capable of producing pheromones, whether it be the Queen, Hive Leaders, or any of the xenomorphs capable of producing recovery pheromones, you’ll likely recover much faster.”
As for these MP questions, given my absolutely zero knowledge in the role, all of these are gonna be very verbatim from the wiki pages for MPs. I’m going to be perfectly frank, I do not have any of the required knowledge for being an MP. I would say I have the bare minimum knowledge to act as a SEA in terms of applying military law and NJPs. Anywho! On with the answers.
Following informing someone that they are under arrest, they are to be led to the brig if willing, or sufficiently restrained if resisting. Following the transit to the Brig, they are to be informed of the charges against them and their right to appeal. Following that, stick em in the cell and ensure they’re kept alive and given their human rights.
While on code green, MPs are granted their sidearms and any non lethal equipment. While on blue, MPs are granted the ability to carry both lethal and riot gear, but may only use lethal armaments on non human threats. At blue, riot gear is permitted to disrupt and take down marine threats. On red and hijack, there are zero restrictions for the types of weapons MPs may carry and use on targets.
As for this one, I’m not seeing any restrictions based on alert for what an MP is required to wear. Per SOP, they’re required to be wearing their uniform, armor, and boots, as well as use only their security headsets as opposed to any other kind of headset.
Thank you so much for all of these questions! I’m certain I got at least some wrong, but over all I’m happy with my performance. And I am happy to report I’m setting up my new computer now!
+1 helpful and friendly to others, barely interacted with them but in the few ingame interactions I’ve had its been genuinely positive, plus they know their stuff
Do note that while I’m using a point-based system, there isn’t a point limit you have to reach for my recommendation - this isn’t an exam.
Miscellaneous Questions.
2/3. You can toggle the country flag in either the preferences tab or the OOC preferences tab.
1/1. Correct, though, theres a bit more in-depth mechanical stuff: Admins can enable overhead LOOC for themselves, or other players (You can adminhelp and ask for overhead LOOC to assist in training - I’ve done it when I’m not playing SEA), Additionally, the Senior Enlisted Advisor role has a overhead LOOC toggle.
1/1. While a bit of a nitpick, I’d define PvE as ‘Player Versus Enemy’, as not everyone is familiar with the terminology, additionally, you may want to link to the wiki pages (https://cm-ss13.com/wiki/PVE:Starter_Guide) instead of a direct Discord link.
1/1. While we can’t deffer mentorhelps to adminhelps in the UI, this answer is good. You’d want to tell them to make an adminhelp (Either through F1 or the esc menu).
1/1. I’d note that the place to seek guidance is the #Whitelist-Help channel, otherwise, good answer.
1/1. No notes.
Human Questions.
1/1. No notes.
3/5. In addition to the listed causes, splinted fractures (though they impart less slowdown than unsplinted ones) can cause slowdown, and armour can cause slowdown too, though you’d no doubt get to the bottom of this with further questioning.
0/1. While you can find berets aboard the Almayer (In one of the bunkrooms, and a maintenance hallway), the answer I was looking for was in the loadout menu in character-set up. It was a bit of a trick question,
1/2. This was a trick question. Theres two possibilities: Tramadol, or a research injector. Tramadol can be OD’d easily due to its slow consumption time (If a medic doses you twice, and you dose yourself again, or if you dose yourself too soon, its an easy OD.).
1/2, with an addendum: The actual numbers are 29u for bicaridine and kelotane, and 19u for oxycodone (due to the OD thresholds I have been reliably informed that OD thresholds have been changed. Whoopsie!).
3/3. You can see the approximate ‘Time since death’ in the top-right infobox, above chat, and I’d denote that the time-to-perma is five minutes, excluding CPR.
1/1. You can also open them by interacting with the opposite (free) hand.
1/1. To note: Holding items (like a knife, or crowbar) can cause you to hit people with it, regardless of intent.
2/3. I was also looking for the plainly obvious (but hard to guess as a mentor) ‘double check you’re wearing an earpiece/its toggled on’. Its happened to me. Otherwise, good answer.
1/1. No notes.
3/3. Helmet accessories are something I forgot entirely. Good job.
Xenomorph Questions.
4/4. Warding is a bit more complex than that, but as a brief overview, that works perfectly fine.
3/3. No notes.
2/3. Devouring would be worth a mention, but theres an autoresponse for that.
2/2. Good to take initiative and offer to imaginary friend!
1/1. In addition, you can alt-click on the queen tracker to track a leader, who usually has recovery pheros, when the queen is on ovi, at least.
Marine Law questions.
While admins handle marine-law question tickets, its important to know the basics of marine law (especially because SEAs are bound to it as a server rule, and may need to advise MPs). While you can learn marine-law by reading the page, I’d greatly suggest playing a few rounds of MP. Good on you for admitting that you’re not familiar with the role - I’m not able to quote marine law off the top of my head, personally. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I wont be using the points system for this, as ML is far too complex to denote with a somewhat meaningless point system!
Its slightly more in-depth than that, I’ll explain what you missed: Primarily how the charges work (and JAS), and confiscate their belongs/uniform and put them into the cell locker, then put a jumpsuit and radio earpiece on. You can read more in this section: https://cm-ss13.com/wiki/Marine_Law#Detainment_and_Brig_Procedures.
Riot gear is permitted on green for usage in training, by authorization of the CMP or MW, as long as it remains in the brig.
That was a trick question. While MPs do have service jackets (available from the formal vendor the CO can open), I’m unsure if they can be worn. Furthermore, MPs cannot wear any type of headgear, they can only wear the MP-issued beret, ball cap, peaked cap and helmet, or not wear it (with the stipulation that if ordered to wear something, they have to)
Apologies for how long this took to write-up, I had to have lunch in the middle of it.
Overall, you’re a good fit, you’re knowledgeable and have a good style of writing.
+1, with the stipulation really need to get hours in military-police roles.
No matter the result of this application, remember to have a CM day!
