Metal Half Barricade

I’ve noticed as PFC with an engineering kit, you can’t make any folding cades, which make even the best cade setup situational at best, as you can’t safely keep bugs out without restricting your own movement, so I have a small idea I think would be nice.

Half cade: 3 metal, less health and bullet protection than a full cade, but when wired, it doubles or triples the do_after time on vaulting it, but allows you to vault it without getting caught in the barbed wire. prevents pounces over it but does not stun the pouncer, they get a message (you can’t quite get enough air time to clear the barbed wire) or some such.

It wouldn’t really be viable for comstechs to make, just a stopgap for baby engineers

more cades = bad :-1:

All cades restrict your own movement, even if you have folding cades. The last thing we need right now is more cades.

what about a cade that doesn’t restrict movement, and it’s across the ground, we could call it flades, or floor-cades for short.

This would allow for effortless mobility and streamlined combat as both sides can utilize the tile unimpeded by things like sand or snow

Really just a cade without wires on it is pretty good, and cades in L, C, or | shapes are also quite good as firing positions, even without wires.

You don’t need to completely block movement, just make it take longer for xenos to reach you. I actually find that if xeno players see a gap in a cadeline they’ll move the extra 3-5 tiles to go through the gap rather than slash the cade directly in front of them. That tends to get them to overextend more than they should and IMO contributes to kills better than blocking off a path completely.

I also find it causes more of a push-pull dynamic rather than holding a static line, and because xeno movement isn’t constrained by the cades, they actually don’t attack the cades as much, so ironically the cadelines often last longer.

My rule of thumb for it is basically, “would I like to set up an HPR here?” and if the answer is yes, I put down 2-5 cades. With sandbags and a shovel you can actually reposition the cades fairly quickly too, so it’s even resource efficient.

Why would it stop pounces, and what’s keeping the alien from vaulting it in exactly the same time it takes a marine? What you’re describing exists. It’s called a window frame.

I don’t get it, do these ‘flades’ actually serve a defensive purpose? Do they just… exist to boost movement speed? It just sounds like… glorified floor tiles with no benefit given sand doesn’t impede movement, and it’s infinitely better to clear snow for free than to waste mats on ‘flades’.

Sorry man it’s ideaguys there have been serious proposals unironically worse than flades so I am a broken shell of a human being
