It makes 0 sense that OBs can only hit one Z-level when fired on same location. Make so that the same OB fires on other Z-levels on same spot
Is it time to get the bunker buster OB?
Not being bannaned on discord would help, but i really like this idea. This is kind of stuff is for a longer development, could add more OB types, maybe one specifically for multi z destruction ( something like bunker buster).
However for quick balance spawning an OB on -1 and +1 z levels with 0.5 effectivness would be a quick solution
shouldn’t have gotten urself banned lol
This is off-topic but i have different values and ideology than those managing discord so it is beter this way ![]()
perhaps an army spacecraft carrying orbital weapons should be capable of destroying a civilian building in a small frontier colony.
WE’RE THE MARINES GRR NOT ARMY ARMY IS WEAKLINGS GRR
I want this, but will there not be issues with areas that are broken, and people are stuck up there? Potentially abusable. Careful considerations would have to be made, or certain tiles unbreakable to stop areas being completely cut-off perhaps.
I find this intepretation a step in the right direction, however there are two variables I think would be useful to add to the interaction of OBs with different Z-Levels.
- Type of the ceiling above.
- Type of the OB being fired.
As it is currently you have various types of ceilings on top when you inspect a tile. Some are in the open, some are under glass or metal roofs and some are deep underground. Similarly the separation between different Z-Layers should have a similar characteristic. Where the material of this layer determines whether the roof will take some damage, have a hole poked through it, or entirely block the OB.
Second the type of OB being fired.
In my interpretation, a HE OB would be able to penetrate directly on the ground layer if not the deepest layer available, and then from there on, the explosion should affect the upper layers similar to the picture, but in reverse. Meaning, the projectile lands on the ground floor, then the explosion blows the “roof” out from the inside of the structure outwards.
A cluster OB considering it has smaller “bomblet” munitions should be so that it starts eating up the upper layers first, and once enough holes or damage has been made, continuously continues eating up the lower layers. Similar to the picture.
The incendiary OB considering it has minimal to barely any explosive power, should have minimal ability to penetrate over Z-levels and could be balanced similar to the graph in a way.
I think playing with these two variables, will make for a very interesting interaction of the OB mechanics with the new multi-Z Layout.
A similar effect can be introduced for CAS.
As it stands, the added Z-Levels, in the current tests increase the areas by around 1.5 times. The OBs marines have at start are still numbered at 2. These two factors combined, lead to a reduced effectiveness of the OBs in general. this is beacause now you are dealing both with a bigger area and a reduced effect as you can entirely negate the impact of an OB in an area by simply switching Z-Levels.
Another thing that I would question is whether it is really necessary for the Z-Level variable in coordinates to be randomized at start. It can easily be standardized with 0 as ground level, 1 above level and -1 as underground along with the grid coordinates remaining the same across Z-levels of a map albeit randomized at round start.
So we should get the bunker buster OB. What would you think about incend OBs “leaking” down to lower Z levels. Kinda like napalm fire leaking everywhere.
Incendianery OB on other floors could result in fire smoke
Thoughts about making HE OB a type of a fuse ordinance? As in you can choose which Z level it majorly explodes on and just digs through the layers above?
Have someone manually tweak fuze delay at the front of the warhead before loading
Also cluster OB is an antipersonnel munition. It isn’t meant to demolish buildings, just kill anything caught in the open. Minor damage on structures is expected but it would likely take more than a few hits to actually demolish something. Each individual bomb should do less damage to walls.
