Every SL gets “order” Buffs. this can boost damage, defense, or move speed.
So every squad deploys with “one” of these.
However, when a rifleman is set to ASL they “unlock” a order buff, and can issue orders to buff marines. SLs, retain this ability as it is trained.
Thus - an SL should never be set as SL, you should set an aSL every round, as this DOUBLES your amount of order buffs from 4→8.
It turns out that the tiny speed/damage/resilience boost from a PVT hitting the order button (assuming they even remember) is not worth your entire squad being lost lmfao
YOU ASSUME!! A pvt is getting this promotion, when that is not true. You simply find your metabuddy in the squad list and give him SL, and then he tells you thanks on discord for letting him feel important.
You could also get another from adding a rifleman to the Intel squad and setting them as the Intel SL
Or better yet, convince a comtech to actually pick the banner for once (insane difficulty, practically impossible)
Majority of SLs do not use orders because they are bald
Majority of SLs who use orders use focus and hold even though move is objectively the best for 95% situations
Even if you did the whole ‘SL + aSL’ thing you wouldn’t see much of an effect at all

To be clear: it was removed because the same fraggers would split between squads and set themselves as asl then move together and double buff each other while chunging and wailing on xenos
