Skadihildur Grimsdottir

What rule(s) were broken?:

Rule 8: Use your Slot

Description of the incident:

Skadihildur Grimsdottir took it upon herself as XO to teach the ASO on how to perform CAS runs, despite the fact that neither role will be, nor must be prioritizing CAS as it’s not a stipulate to either of their roles

In the Combat Information Center meanwhile, the aforementioned XO quite literally left the Corporate Liaison running CIC with a very inexperienced staff officer in charge of the operation for, I’d like to say, a good 20 or so minutes before returning as the Queen had attempted a hijack at that time

Normally, I wouldn’t take much issue to helping newer players and all, but it is the matter of fact that the ASO is not at all required to run the Normandy for CAS, and the fact that and there were literally 3 mentors online at the time that could have dedicated themselves to assisting the ASO in her stead.

As to why only the XO was reported and not including the ASO, was due to the fact that the ASO was coerced into running CAS which is why I found it more problematic than it should be

Be that as it may, she returned to duty shortly after going into the computer lab to decrypt intel and led the marines for the duration of the round

Saying I coerced the ASO is a total joke, this post is overly inflammatory. I asked the ASO, they agreed, and said they might need some help, so I said no problem, i can give you a hand. I had some crashing isssues where i crashed about 3 times in CIC before going down, but in total only spent about 10 minutes i’d say running them through a fire mission. They were polite and thankful, and seemed quite excited.

I apologize to the mentors who feel slighted I didn’t tell them to teach ASO, in the moment I had a simple interaction where someone needed help and I knew how to help them and believed it were for the best of the operation we have CAS.

As for intel - it were relayed to me on Comms we were very , very close to foxtrot, and I had noticed all the intel was at research, so i took it to lab and bought foxtrot.

The duty of the XO is to Assist and support the marines, getting CAS operational, and getting foxtrot fullfills this duty.

I tried to put the SO in charge. This will be confirmed in logs, I prompted them I needed thier ID pulling it off then breaking the grab, and directly stated something along the lines of “I need you to run the OP while i help ASO real fast.” My game crashed, I woke up, and Jericho said he gave him announcement permissions, then I asked the CL if they would like to help as well, since they seemed a bit more experienced.

I would also point out, there was not alot better I could have been doing. It is leadership to step up and assist others. Marines were in FOB, being seiged. Short of spam announcing hold fob, there’s not a lot I could have been doing in CIC. Enabling CAS however is huge for marines. It is stated that you cannot leave CIC unmanned as ACO, and I had left a SO.

Hey all. I was the ASO for the round in question.

First things first, I was not coerced into doing CAS. I was asked by a GROUNDSIDE FTL or SL almost as soon as I woke up. I checked that REQ was being manned before I went off to learn GP. XO did not bully me into doing it, in fact without them their I would have absolutely lost as despite a significant amount of playtime on ASO I’m ashamed to admit I’ve not had to do CAS at all in that time.

Secondly, they were not teaching me for twenty minutes. It was closer to ten, fifteen at the maximum.

Thirdly, given the situation at the time it is not unreasonable for a XO to priortize CAS runs. ASO’s have the pilot skill and one could make a strong argument that having CAS NOW is as useful as processing intel LATER especially given the volatility of the situation groundside. ASO’s can and should be doing Normandy runs in the absence of a GP if that is what will provide the biggest benefit to the operation.

Forthly, the fact the Exec Spec stepped up to assist the newbie SO should not be held against the XO imo. Then again, I wasn’t in the CIC and was preoccupied on sorting through the CAS panel so I can’t speak to that. I believed so Exec Spec stepped up and took the reigns to help the SO. Whether they SHOULD have done that is not the topic of this report but either way the CL’s initiative should not be held against the XO.

Fifthly, as for not bothering a mentor. Yeah that’s fair but that was a me issue and should not be held against the XO.

In all frankness, yeah, there is an argument to be made that things were delegated incorrectly, especially considering a DP woke up about 5 minutes later and CAS turned out to be unused due to JTAC personell groundside being dead/not on comms before I had to cryo.

However, XO didn’t fuck off from CIC to do some stupid larp or frag on the frontlines or w/e she left to TEACH and SUPPORT someone. Should we be punishing people for that now? Yeah, it was arguably a bad call from an operational standpoint but from a community skill and gameplay health standpoint we really should not be punishing this behaviour.

tldr; XO did not abandon cic for 20 minutes to teach me. It was 10 minutes. ASO should be expected and capable of doing CAS runs and it was a failure on my part that I’m so inexperienced with them. XO taking 10 minutes out of a single round to teach me is good for the broader game. Teaching overwhelmed and beleagued players is better in the long run than letting them go it alone and salting in dchat when the fuck up/are useless.

Ceyella gave all access to an SO. This is a rulebreak. Ceyella gave all access to a groundside CL and deemed them aCO, this is a rulebreak. the groundside CL was made aCO so that Ceyella could go teach a new ASO player how to CAS. This lesson was cut short due to a hijack, or xenos on the other dropship. There is a time and a place to teach new players, and it is not during lowpop on a role as important as XO. I have placed a command ban on Ceyella’s account.
