So, give it Short or Long range like the motion detector.
Difference is, you pulse instead of actively detect- like echo location. So if you want to grab a body, but you’re worried they’re waiting around the corner, you can pulse to check for moving & stationary stuff.
Maybe force it to have no IFF so it pulses when marines are standing there as well.
Pros-
Can detect stationary targets (Only useful in the specific scenario you mentioned)
Cons-
Manually activated (Useless in 98% of situations)
Lacks IFF
It kinda just… sucks? This ‘PD’ just sounds worse in almost every way. It’s useless in combat, chasing, roaming, and only useful when you already suspect there’s an enemy, but ONLY better than the MD when that specific target has been completely stationary AND you’re pushing into them.
MD wins in pretty much everything else, so why would anyone waste space for this?
A stationary xeno lying in wait for you to recover is a nothingburger anyway, just fish the body back with HEDP, tell everyone to cover or better yet don’t risk it.
If it’s supposed to use something like echolocation or sonar, I suppose you could make it so it also shows exactly what that player is, so you can literally ‘see’ every ping. E.g. it reveals the sprite, like a warrior or a PFC or a queen or whatever.
Still wouldn’t be useful enough over the MD, but it’s a start.
Coutner counter point. Make a binoc with night vision. You can still use MD with a binoc to do recon.
Use a special bullet that has a small amount of raidum in it. Then use a giager counte to track it down. It will click whenever they get near you. Shoot the queen never ge flanekd agian.
might be useful if it pings a huge area and returns how many non IFF signatures there are, would be great for the three transport PO mains to know when there’s too much heat
