At least with RNG you had a chance to actually play as a xeno more than once. :]
And you had a chance not to play even once.
That settles that. We are going to bump larva back up to two per cap!
Why do marines get a round ending nuke and xenos get nothing? Perhaps the longer the round goes the more larva should spawn.
Sure you did, by going marine?
If you played as a xeno and died at least you played once and you can respawn, if you didn’t play at all you can play as a marine so you’d have played once. You don’t need a forced mechanic to make a player guaranteed to play xeno lol.
wtf are you talking about bro? You could fail to roll roundstart xeno and never get a larva after that. It happened to me BEFORE the larvae nerf, and after the nerf (before queue) it became next to impossible to latejoin as xeno. I literally cannot see your point. What playing marine has to do with this? Why did you bring up marines, if you were talking about xenos:
lol
lmao
I trust I don’t need to explain that it is and why it is a horrible idea that solves absolutely nothing and only serves to make the system worse and encourage people to quit after death.
People complain about the queue moving them because you are being moved further back even if you join as an observer, with new observers taking the spot in front of you which should not be happening.
@Drathek If this is your response to all the feedback people have given here then you’ve missed the entire point of this thread…this won’t solve the issues being brought up. I know not all of the issues areentirely because of larva queue, but they are at least in part. Removing the messages isn’t gonna make the queue go any faster, people still gonna be waiting for an hour and nothing is gonna change or improve.
Yeah, this is a bad answer to complaining. Also, some complaining was legit, since there was a bug with disconnecting players. Who knows if there are more.
Again, I think current queue system is fine, unless you really want to say that new players should not have priority, which is… well, makes some sense, but would make latejoining impossible again, which is far from ideal. Maybe we should remove the priority for a test.
It’s a shame people blame the queue over the larvae nerf, because all of this is happening because of severe lack of respawns. New people are joining faster than xenos get new xenos.
As stated in that PR which itself also references a post in this thread:
Since the number changes as people disconnect/reconnect/go afk/return from afk/change their preferences/etc., the number fluctuates so its just not worth informing the player about it.
…
It has only caused confusion and frustration despite my best efforts to explain why this is the effect and why it is desireable.
…
My hope originally with the messages was to inform the player approximately how long it might be, but players are too focused on when their relative position is further back than it was a moment ago.
I think it is worse removing the messages, but honestly I’m tired of trying to explain how it works, why numbers fluctuate, and having to justify the reasoning. Its just not worth giving the player insight into it when its proven too difficult to grasp.
Larva are in short supply so don’t squander your life that the queue prioritizes giving you. If the hive sucks at capturing marines, then that hive is likely to fall regardless. It still places those who have been waiting longer ahead of those that have been waiting less, and I have removed any penalty as far as your position in queue allowing players to enter the thunderdome, play as a face hugger, disconnect, or go afk. Your relative position will remain as it was while you are currently unavailable because its just your time of death.
You do not have to bother explaining. Removing transparency is not the answer to people being dumb and salty - let people mald. It’s dchat and it will happen regardless. The only thing you can do is expand the larva message with an explanation on how it works. Anything past that isn’t your responsibility and people in dchat will often explain how things work anyway so it solves itself.
Again though, most of the complaining is because the system does not work as intended with new observers overriding your position in queue and pushing you back despite you yourself being an observer who has not played yet. Obscuring a bug does not make it go away.
So people who connect mid-round and have yet to play won’t get put in front of people who’ve been waiting the longest? Cause that’s honestly the only thing I really have an objection against, if that’s removed it might actually help a bit.
If they haven’t played at all, they get put at the front of the queue. Otherwise if you die at let’s say 00:45, disconnect, someone dies at 00:50, you reconnect and a larva became available at 00:55, you who died earlier get it and not the one who died at 00:50.
Those who have not yet played the game in general get priority in the queue.
Yeah I’ve been feeling this way as well. I think the unfortunate timing of the larva queue being implemented around the same time as larva numbers being nerfed has made it seem much worse than it otherwise would be. Larva queue probably wouldn’t be so bad if xenos actually had enough larva to respawn as, like they used to before the larva nerf.
Newest PR is making latejoiners not skip the queue, which I can understand why people want but now xeno essentially becomes a round start only role which is kinda sad
Because the round ender of the xenos is currently worked on. You should read Morrows “Devlog” on it. Sounds very fun. Xenos holding coms towers for special siege xenos to spawn out of the old larva pool.
Maybe they could wait to finish working on that before cutting the larva numbers in half so people aren’t just getting one life as a xeno for the next who knows how long. Plus I doubt the xeno endgame could do much in the way of alleviating the amount of people waiting to play, I don’t think it’s gonna spawn more than a handful of xenos.
Even then, the handful you do spawn are just gonna be used to serve as siege engines/round enders; they won’t get to actually play the round, just the stagnant siege part, which nobody enjoys. It’s like larva surge during hijack; if I die and get placed at the back of queue, I’ll probably spawn in time for hijack, but by that point the round is over; nobody cares about hijack.
Morrow kind of tried testing this concept last week during a stagnant round; xenos held both comms towers for 10 minutes before a very powerful crusher was spawned. They sacrificed 4 sisters and got down to 9 in the process. The crusher was bald and instantly ran out alone on grass and suicided.
I spawned as the second one after xenos held the towers for another 10 minutes; there wasn’t much to it though, I kind of just slashed a few cades and herded the marines into the DS, where they evacced. And then just broke a few more cades at lifepods. When they tried to evac again.
Basically though you don’t really get to do much, you’re just there to speed up the FOB being cracked.
Like I’m fine with all of that except this
People keep connecting to the round and pushing others who’ve been waiting further back. Just put new joins behind the people who’ve been waiting an hour and it would be fine.
If there was a mechanic that also allowed you to retain your spot in queue if you die the second you spawn that would be great; there’s nothing like waiting 80 minutes just to spawn in an OR and instantly get PBd. Then you’re back to 19th…
@Drathek can we please let people keep their queue spot when they die like 30 seconds after spawning. Waiting half an hour in queue just to die in a 3x3 cadebox ain’t fun
Also could you double check to make sure Larva Queue Late Joiner Nerf by Drulikar · Pull Request #3803 · cmss13-devs/cmss13 · GitHub isn’t constantly putting new ghosts at the back of the line and letting everyone budge ahead? Cause now observers are the ones being constantly cut in front of. Can we please just make it a first come first serve thing and let people retain their spot in queue in the order they got it
“bro just play one of the infinite UAV freespawns like hugger/lesser drone cmon bro please bro” - devs
but Im too BALD to play something that dies in one shot :waaa:
