Rifleman Guide: How to be a Pointman

If you want to yap more and shoot less but don’t want to play shipside, then this role is for you! As a pointman you should run around the flank as frequently as possible, littering the screen with marking flares, and calling out any contacts you see.

The configuration above offers top speed and room for basic supplies so that you may use your other storage slots for other things.

The flank is wherever your squad isn’t facing. If everyone is facing and shooting in in one direction then they all know what’s there. You should spread out and check their blind spots.

Do not walk more than 6 tiles away from any marine. You want them to rescue you when you fall.

This brings their attention to any flankers that killed you. In doing so, you have succeeded in your purpose as a pointman.

When you are dead, you will gain better battlefield awareness as a ghost.

You may use any weapon of your choice. I suggest attaching lights because you’re not wearing any armor with lights on it.

Lanterns, desk lamps, and flashlights will complement this by lighting up your back.

A motion detector is essential to this loadout. Place it in your belt or suit storage slot.

As soon as you see a ping, toss a flare and run, report it immediately, then observe from a distance.

A sling pouch can strap on to your binoculars so that you never lose them, even if you get knocked down. Bind this to a hotkey so that you can draw your binos instantly.

Pack plenty of flares. A flare pouch or flare gun holster can hold two packs worth of flares.

Flare guns can launch flares into the sky so that they can’t be melted. Do this by using Special Action.

You may look for a suit after you deploy. They have 2 pockets and a suit storage slot and usually don’t slow you down.

Since you’ll be communicating more often, you should take a radio bag, or JTAC equipment, or just steal it from a dead FTL.
