Shocked Crates Need to Go

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to talk to you, and not you talking to the imaginary version of me.

I’ll be honest I’ve never actually seen this in action so I don’t fully know how this works but if people really think this is a good mechanic it sounds like it should be added to something other than a crate. How are xenos supposed to know that crates of all things are deadly weapons they need to avoided at all costs? Make some kind of short range tesla coil type thing that can be pushed around or something, I don’t know. I just don’t get why this is a property of crates.

So far to summarize:

-I’m toxic for having brought this up

-it’s good because it takes some work to set up

-it’s good because its “soul”

-it’s good because it technically has a workaround if you commit T3s to wall tunnel around it

-it’s good because it doesn’t happen all the time

Really strong showing from the meme box supporters, really gave me a lot to think about lol. I personally reiterate I don’t think it’s a good idea to have cheese mechanics like this that effectively create an impassable barrier that instakills you if you aren’t aware touching a box will kill you. It’s not fun for Xenos. You die on Xeno you don’t get revived 1 minute later you get round removed. There should be an attempt to at least make Xeno round removals intuitive. I’m amazed this even needs to be said.

Remove them (its marine main saying that).

Can’t remove, because “improve, don’t remove”? Improve.

Allright, serious business.
Here is 6 different zero effort ways to deal with crate.

Btw, my original idea with the Funny Crate was to punish the xenos that like to prey on frontline supply crates, what would end up happening often with it is that they would push it far away into a corner, then try slashing it open so the “contents” can be melted.

Also no idea why people think that merely moving into it causes shock.

Just arguing against shocking people running into it.

Hate to play devil’s advocate after you put so much work into this video, but there’s a couple things to note here

  1. This crate is unsecured. Usually you position the crate in such a way that it can not be pushed. Barricades are also often involved in this process.
  2. You, as an alien, are usually being shot at the entire time, meaning things such as melting can become unviable or outright impossible without dying in the process

Many of the work-around showcased in this video quickly fall apart in practice and under pressure.

Counter argument. It takes a lot of willpower and a working brain to not click suspicously placed crates

This is a productive discussion. I appreciate it.

“soul” is just an excuse to keep things in that shouldnt atp

I think the strat just doesn’t make sense remotely why it ought to work. I dont mind dying to stuns as xeno if they make sense, like getting bombed to mach fuck with hedp or getting hit with a shotgun slug.

Make a PR that both removes this and also in the same PR, reintroduces the chance for survivors to spawn with wounds such as bleeding or missing limbs.

I think this is quite fair for all parties involved…

scarcity is not a good point to design mechanics around. Just because it will only happen once every twenty rounds doesnt justify its poor balance

This is so soul. Please speedmerge.

Scarcity is good point to design around. The issue here that shocked crates are not truely “scarce” only reason people don’t use them…is not because they are unable to but because they just simple don’t know how or care.

please for the love of god someone tell me how to shock the crate, the suspense and mystery has been killing me, i sat here and read this entire topic in the hopes of learning the arcane process but to no avail that i can tell

You put the chargepack in a crate, then lock it. Unless you have to do something to the pack, thats all.

I can only imagine the shenanigans you will get into with this knowledge. God speed you mad lad.

They are, you need to make Electropacks, which firstly require a lathe, secondly require a lot of materials. Also plasteel crates cost plasteel, which is also rare.

It’s why you rarely see this strat used, which if they weren’t “scarce” you’d see a lot more often.

Also a thing to note - shocked doors used to be a good strat, but were nerfed heavily with tail-stabs. Also doors are almost useless with how Xenos can acid them, walk away and just wait till they completely disintegrate into nothingness with no effort. There’s zero way to prevent that from happening and no way to “repair” doors. On top of that setting up power these days takes an insane amount of time. It’s sad really because shocking doors used to be a viable strat, which it’s no longer really worth doing, not unless you know you have power up.

Honestly Xenos really don’t have to worry about these crates, you’ll rarely see this strat used, it’s just not worth the effort setting it all up for the most part.

To be honest you don’t need any massive overhaul, just reduce the stuns so it’s not as punishing and everyone would be happy. It’s one thing for a drone to die to a shocked door/crate, it’s pretty fucking stupid for that fatass 10 second stun on a rav to eliminate a t3.

Queen screech stun is like a 5th of door stun and gets bitched about constantly, I think it’s more than fair for a few threads about how the deadliest tools in a survivor’s arsenal are doors and crates lmfao. That stun will kill ANYTHING.
