Hello, some context from my end as the XO for this round.
I feel pretty bad for Rose here, as this round was among the quickest to end I’ve ever seen, and not even being able to play because of a mostly harmless occurrence onboard the vessel is rough.
For the context of this round:
If I recall correctly, it was Fiorina, and I had sent the three squads out from LZ2 fanning out north into Lowsec Cell Block and Armory, generally operating next to each other. I had intended to have them call out contacts and subsequently rotate all three squads together as one ball, but Alpha squad got wiped out in a Queen screech, so I called for a retreat to FOB. Unfortunately, because it had happened so quickly (within maybe 5 minutes of drop) and because Bravo was already short on CTs, FOB had little-to-no cades, and so the rest of the marines were effectively overrun. I forgot exactly how evacuation of the Alamo went and if anyone got out, but suffice to say, it was a brutal stomp of the marine corps. The round, barring hijack, was basically over by, maybe, minute 30, 35. Relevant to this, right after the wipe of Alpha squad, I had attempted to have the Alamo hold groundside, thus also unfortunately preventing Rose from deploying.
For the context of Rose’s arrest:
I was alerted to this incident by Cutlass, who asked for my input, and so I came over to Brig to give my opinion on the case. I had initially presumed the charges to be Theft, as I was not particularly aware of the context of the various items onboard the vessel and whether or not these were places one would have to break into in order to obtain them. I was informed by Cutlass that the charges were Contraband and Resisting Arrest.
Although I do not like marines being brigged for long periods of time, I typically try to support my MPs when they decide to conduct arrests and trust their discretion in doing so. I do not tend to supersede the normal procedures and processes as a result. Because Contraband, in the wiki for marine law, when processed as a major crime, is “Possessing unauthorized items, weapons, or controlled substances from the ship that are not authorized.”, it felt likely to me that this was a justified charge. Given the hostility towards my MP, I also felt the Resisting Arrest charge was fair. It appeared to me as though both charges were valid, and so thus was the arrest.
Altogether, I trusted this MP’s judgement.
Nonetheless, I sympathized with Rose’s situation and so suggested to the MP to be light on the sentencing, so that she would, at the very latest, only miss first-drop. It was not my intention whatsoever that Rose were to be unable to play this round at all, but also beyond my knowledge that this round would be so short.
I recognize that the judgement of the Provost office supersedes my own, and that my own was thus spotty, and incomplete. Rose, I am sorry that you had to spend this round locked up in brig as a result of that, and wish the process were quicker so that you could have had a chance to play.
After I left the scene at the Brig, I was too busy with the floundering operation and later hijack to later attend to this and oversee what exactly was occurring, as my roundstart SO cryo’d. I should have checked up on the situation and done better to address the very real ingame impact this arrest might have had, given the Provost’s appeal judgement.
