Synthetic Application - Slavor

What is your BYOND key?

Slavor

What is your Discord ID?

Slavor#7326

Do you usually play a specific character? If so, who?

Slavor ‘Communist’ Vlan

What whitelist applications have you previously completed?

I only tried a to whitelist for synth. Other then that no whitelist has been submitted before.

Synthetic Info:

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Ivan

What is your Synthetic’s Personality?

My synth is a old but a friendly synth. His personality is harsh against unknown elements such as hostiles as in speaking in a more monotone voice when he has to but not hostile against them until they make a move. For his team members he is very cheerful to help them in any way possible. Even if they are treating them harshly he will treat them friendly.

How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?

One of the salesman’s says “Ivan might not be our newest synths but he is a reliable model, he changed many hand and maintained many ships and colonies in his time. The last ship he worked at met with… unfourtanate circumstances. But he has been recovered and fully repaired for duty. Let’s… cut a deal on this one eh?”

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

I always was fascinated with synths in game. They provide both gameplay and roleplay elements in a very… unique way. I really would like to try the elements myself and give the people more roleplay and gameplay assistance as a synth.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

Malcolm of course! It is not magic, it is Malcolm! I was a survivor once in Sorokyne and I was hiding in a closet away from the main group. When I survived and go back to ship Malcolm was there. And we just… had the best roleplay talk ever. We just talked and talked and talked… It was a very roleplay heavy talk between us and I was very immersed into the game.

Synthetic Character Story:

Last memories of Ivan from Cargo ship Nelis.
Explosion detected in reactor…
Hull breach in engineering sector…

One of the crew members sucked into space. I had to leave her behind. Otherwise whole ship would have depressurise. Other three members of the crew is panicking. Distress call has been sent. Explosion’s origin is unknown. Talking to captain about the current position we are in. Ship is badly damaged. I suggested escape pods to the crew but there is only one functional. They started fighting amongst themselves. I tried to seperate them but I got damaged in the end. One of them killed the captain… The one who killed the captain killed the other crew member. He used the escape pod and jettisoned himself. I tried to defibbilirate the captain and the other but it was too late.
System malfunction…
System malfunction…
System mmmmmaaaaaalllllffffuuunnnn…

Skills:

Engineering:

I played many hours of Combat engineer, Maintanance technician also Chief engineer. I may not all absolutely everything but I know a lot.

Command:

I played as Staff officer, Auxilary Staff officer and Chief engineer. As Auxilary staff officer and chief engineer I had to take command in the absence of a XO or CO. I normally dont take command roles very often but when there is no one to lead I try my best to fill in the gap.

Medical:

I have long hours in Corpsman(Medic), Doctor, Chief Medical officer and some in Research as well. I recently learned how to play researcher and I may not craft the best stimms but I can maintain the research departmen fairly well.

Requisitions:

Mostly in low pop hours I take Quartermaster just for requsitions to be functional. So I have quite a lot of hours in requsitions as Auxilary Staff officer, Quartermaster and Cargo Techinician.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

If a marine is getting dragged by xenomorphs I can use melee weapons to deter and rescue the marine.
If a marine is getting shot at by CLF members I can either subdue or even kill the CLF member. If the shooting CLF member is running off then my priorty is to secure the shot marine and heal him.
I cant and ever use a long range weapon and give signal and coordinates for mortar, CAS and OB.
I can’t pursue enemies if they disengage like the example I given. Priorty is always assisting the marines.

Final Info:

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?

“1 day ban-Rule 10: Lethal Force:Shot a W-Y professor due to the professor trying to evac with DDI documents, escaulated to a one day ban due to previous warning.” This banned happend due to my confusion to handle the situvation in hand. But I know better know about the ascelation rules now and asking about stuff if I am not sure about what should I do to admins regularly to not make the same mistake again.

Are you currently banned from our Discord?

No I am not

Let us know why you were discord banned.

I was not discord banned in any time.

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?

Even though I am a flawed person with some warnings then and there I try to improve myself and try not to make the same mistake again. If I do it again I try harder. Unlike normal roles I understand synth’s has to be perfect in many ways. So I will try to be my best if I my application is accepted. If there is any mistake I done please let me know. Thank you.

Some severe issues here, I would recommend utilizing the discord WL application help channel for any future application attempts.

The hardest thing to overcome likely is going to be spelling and grammatical issues. The occasional speed-typing error during in-game speech is fine but in an application where you have the opportunity to proofread and double check for issues, having enough that it’s distracting is indicative of a frequency IC that is beyond the acceptable tolerance we’re going for.

The described personality is a bit of nothingburger, this is an area that would really benefit from a conversation with a councilor. What you’ve got are very generic behaviors listed that might qualify as shallow quirks, but what we want is a root personality. For example, is he doing this because he’s extremely loyal? Is he just a jerk by default until you get to know him? Is he a snobby noble’s servant? You want a personality that provides a comprehensive framework for the character, which could be expressed for example as being more in tune with group identities and attribution bias.

Once you’ve got a decent personality, then you can work on a story that showcases it. We want a lot of dialogue and action by the character you’re wanting to play which serves as an example and pitch of applying that personality into different circumstances one might expect to encounter during an Alien story. Typically accepted stories are a few pages long, refer to accepted applications for specific examples.

For combat rules I would also suggest using the application help channel. All of the examples you have given are incorrect due to over-generalization and the use of firearms is governed by mechanical restrictions rather than rules.

Okay I do understand the problem with the personality and the story of my synth but I do not understand what you said about the combat rules. I read the synth guidlines and it was talking about the stuff I mentioned.

If a marine is getting dragged by xenomorphs I can use melee weapons to deter and rescue the marine.

This is too generalized and so is covering situations where it would not be appropriate to use force, which makes it false. In the presence of active allied combatants, force should not be used to deter an attacking xeno. Priority is to simply shake and allow the marine to escape or to grab them and carry them to safety. If force is to be used to facilitate that, if there are allies present it would not be appropriate to utilize force yourself unless in a delta situation.

If a marine is getting shot at by CLF members I can either subdue or even kill the CLF member. If the shooting CLF member is running off then my priorty is to secure the shot marine and heal him.

This is again too generalized. The principle of using force as a last resort to facilitate supporting actions still holds, just because there is shooting going on doesn’t enable an offensive tilt to subdue or kill, there is also a heavy emphasis on subduing humans and you are obligated to render aid if possible unless someone with legal authority orders you not to render aid. This can sometimes look a bit messy though because firearms limit or even preclude the ability to escape, and sometimes a counter-attack is necessary in order to escape, but in an inquiry that needs to be sufficiently demonstrated as the case and reason for a counter-attack, and again if others are present and capable of using force it should be left to them until they are no longer able to offer resistance on their own.

I cant and ever use a long range weapon and give signal and coordinates for mortar, CAS and OB.

Using “long range weapons” can be taken 2 ways- throwing a projectile or firing a firearm. Firearms are mechanically restricted, the game physically will not allow you to use them unless an admin removes a specific code tag from you. Usually if they do that, you are still expected to behave under the same combat rules just with firearms in your arsenal of options unless the admin specifies otherwise as part of an event. Events are a whole different issue, and not covered under normal rules, and the admin takes personal responsibility. As far as coordinates, they are 100% completely allowed, however most people do not do this and deliberately do not take equipment to designate targets because you are still culpable for friendly fire due to your called strikes. Because of the unpredictability and even hard hardheadedness of marines you could end up being held responsible for friendly fire that was not actually your fault, and because of the dire consequences of that, basically nobody does it unless directly ordered to do so, however it is permitted.

I can’t pursue enemies if they disengage like the example I given. Priorty is always assisting the marines.

Again a generalization that is not true in specifics. For example, if an enemy is engaging, disengaging to heal, and coming back repeatedly, you may chase them some in order to prevent the repeated engagements, but it should not lead to increasing the danger to oneself and ideally should only be done in order to secure enough maneuvering room to make a clear and permanent escape.

I’ve seen salvor a few times knocking about to be fair, I know they can be quite… present if that makes sense? I mostly see them as a survivor.
HOWEVER,
I do advise you look back on previous applications, denied / accepted and work on a much more in detail story on your synthetic. Not gonna be that guy but, I highly advise you withdraw the application so you can work on it further

I never had verbal contact with you in the round but I remember that you saved me several times from my suicidal tactics +1

Hi Slavor, thank you for your interest in the Synthetic Whitelist.

As mentioned by some in this thread including Katskan, there are some standing issues with your current Synthetic Application. Your listed personality & quirk are almost what every single Synthetic has - being friendly to teamates and abraisve to enemies. That and ‘old, reliable’ is insufficient for the standards.

Very happy to hear about Malcolm and the immersive HRP, that is what every Synthetic strives for, a memorable interaction.

The story listed here doesn’t have a meaningful story element, and it doesn’t adequately show your Synthetic’s personality or dialogue.

For your experience answers we are looking for something which will tell us how confident and experienced you feel in each role, be honest and elaborate as much as possible since these will be reflected in your gameplay.

The combat scenarios are very broad, you should detail the scenarios more specifically. The first 2 you listed are more in the theme of what we are looking for(example scenarios and how you would react to them), but with more detail added.

Overall I recommend you completely redo your story and personality, while you take the experience and combat answers and refine them.

Your application is unfortunately denied but you can reapply starting 10/1/24. Before that, seek out assistance in WL App Help and ask questions. You can look at some old accepted applications to get the gist of what the standard is and where you should be around. Katskan also left a lot of indepth feedback. Use that to your advantage and improve!

I wish you the best of luck!
