but I wanna RP as LT Gormon dying like a redshirt along with my troops, while getting to feel a snide sense of superiority with my office commission yes I take it with me to trips to an active combat zone no it isn’t weird give me 20 you damn dirty enlisted
I agree with everything you said.
Just for the sake of “Let’s ask” how would a “Platoon Leader” be for say 200+ pop.
Maybe mentor only, like SEA, but they can only deploy with a pistol and are meant to be the ground-side eyes for CIC so SO are deterred from deploying?
I ask this as like a “It’s useful to have someone that can make a call out that I don’t need to verify.” Like “Queen west” I would usually confirm if it’s RFN or something because who knows where they are & a trusted source of eyes… well you know.
I personally loved having 3 SO in CIC and 1 on the ground as this “platoon leader” hypothetical for one round I played as XO with no CO.
Or is SO for this perfectly fine in your opinion?
CIC already has ground-side eyes, it’s called SL and the M10 helmet.

How are we going to have LTs gorman maxxin when they have no idea what their doing if their restericted from giving Good (Bad) Orders

Sending Officer Cadets fresh out of the academy to the frontline is the dumb. It gets people killed. The Almayer may be one of the worst ships to be assigned to but Command (Devs who feel gracious enough to not abuse powers and buff their xeno build to fight against bad marine) does give us the tools to get the job done and wouldn’t make decisions like assigning officer cadets to a frontline ship especially near the border with the UPP which could have active border skirmishes any day.
So there’s a ranking for cadet 2nd lieutenant called C/2-LT. But the question would be why is (are) there cadet(s) on an active warship patrolling a distant sector far away from MCJROTC?.
100% this. I honestly think all the mk1s with a billion ap mags and tactical shotguns should be removed. Otherwise, you will always get so’s that will beg for armory access to frontline, I think that’s detrimental as overwatch was the intended purpose and can be helpful for the marines on the ground.
Do not also forget that SO’s emit better orders due to higher leadership, that could be a balance consideration if we had 6 and 2 were sent down.
Not saying cadets would be a good idea
But they do exist in the navy. They’re called midshipman and do training on active warships labeled as “summer cruises”. The Almayer is a weird hybrid of the corps and navy so it would be passable
But
Tbh Cadets are not needed, just tell the xo/co you’re new as SO, even Bob cross will take time to help you.
I support this if a few changes were made to the idea,
We change the roles name to Commodore
It can only be played by Nigel Godfry II
thank you
Based and RESS pilled
Nah we dont need or want this. SEA main reason is to teach new players in-person. Next comes helping anyone else as they ask for it. THEN RP the shit out when you can as best you can.( RP the best we can is something we all largely try when we role SEA as is.)
If we want to deploy groundside and help, role squad marines and go kill xenos all you please.
I see a couple solutions. Rather than more SO’s or adding Cadets we could add a couple of Staff Assistant roles to bridge to help fill in. Make them Warrant Officers or Ensigns (I know it’s a marine ship but the rank is perfect for the role) and essentially have them handle things the bridge is too busy to bother with. Don’t give them shipboard console access so they don’t devalue the SO’s, no armory access so the SO’s still have MK1’s when they need them, but let them be able to drive the ARC and use the Command Tent console. Making them warrant officers puts them outside the normal chain of command so they can’t override Department Heads or Squad Leaders but puts them above the rank and file marines. That way when research is making Greenos without authorization or the nurses are making drugs, or there’s an Appeal CIC is too busy to handle you can send these guys out to figure out what’s happening on the ship. Still a support role but one leaning more towards the physical aspect rather than leadership. If they want to fight deploy them alongside an SO as a sort of Honor Guard Jr with strict instructions to stick to their assigned SO and not to wander off unless ordered to check on a certain squad. This or do the same as with the CC and split the SO Role into two different categories with SO’s being the same and the newer rank doing as outlined above, if we don’t want more roles cluttering things up. Lets people learn how SO works without the same responsibilities, but can still serve several useful functions.
This is role bloat.
and role bloat without any tangible benefit from what I can see.
Four Staff Officers is more than enough. If you have a shortage of staff officers you’ve either allowed one to go down and frag for no gain or they haven’t all woken up. In which case more roles will not fix it.
Just like Chen said. Do not be afraid to tell people you are new in LOOC. I may not have the time to directly walk you through things in a busy operation but It’ll give me the chance to know how to work with you better.
There’re already ASO to help, or any department head if CIC really needed.
I hate the idea of a Platoon Leader and will always hate the idea of a platoon leader. At best it does what a Squad Leader does but with a shiny officer role. At worst it functions as yet another role for marines to crowd around and neglect actual orders.
There is no point to adding a Platoon Leader role when Squad Leaders exist.
Very true.
makes sense.
for the sake of ideasguying, wanted to explore the thought.
thanks
Always good to explore ideas. It is how we improve as a society.
