Anyways, I’ve come up with a list of places infinitely better to hold than the hangar on hijack:
CIC: The honourable commanders way out, make sure to press the lockdown when every xeno is inside so you maximize the marine casualties
Engineering: this one is a CLASSIC. Especially when you don’t call evac and self-destruct the ship
THE BRIG: Now this may be a bit unethical, MP’s don’t like you revealing their torture dungeons, but it’s pretty awesome
Research: Ignore the researchers screaming at you about ‘trespassing on corporate property’, this is YOUR ship to take! Research also features an inbuilt choke, even better!
Anywhere but the hangar: The hangar sucks.
Honourable mention: ARES Core room: The perfect choke. Un meltable walls surround you, free inbuilt CN-20X gas dispensers to stun xenos and kill clueless privates. Just make sure the Joes don’t wake up, and destroy the ARES core turrets so those PESKY ADMINS can’t activate them on the ARES only IFF to kill you and your freedom protecting marines.
I know ASS means this option may not always be there, but one must not discount the noble briefing room hold. At all effective? No, not even remotely. Basically the same as the hangar hold with none of the real benefits? Yeah. The noble way to die? Certainly.
Think one of the only places shipside that I haven’t seen a hold done in would be maybe the computer lab. Probably because it’s entirely composed of a horrible hellchoke with only one way in or out unless the walls get torn down. But think of the intel benefits…
We hold hangar not to enjoy it, we hold it so XENOS MAY NOT ENJOY IT.
You think marines like hijack? FUCK NO. Its almost as painful as playing CIC with the worst addition of year 2025 comms scramble but still somehow more enjoyable then playing a single round of shivas.
The hangar hold exists as a sign of defiance against devs and xenos. They removed our pump turrets so we couldn’t hold for evac, they removed placing cades so holding places with chokes would be harder. But guess what. Hangar offers literally the perfect grounds for defense and does not require anything more then your trusty dropship and few ammo boxes. You have a backup plan in a form of a before mentioned dropship which you can flee to and heal up due to provided safety from the turrets or evacuate. Don’t forget about the open ground west of medical that makes defending much easier and possible catwalk traps.
Now why is bring and CIC the last places I would ever hold? For one simple reason: LOCKED DOORS. I am sick of dying as a rifleman due to unhacked doors on hijack and I do not want other people to die in the same irritating way that’s why Id rather avoid these two holds. Also CIC hold has no route to flee via when you get overran.
Now engineering is a spot you could hold if you hack all the doors, deal with the pipes and then hope you can survive the long goal time and then long SD time.
All other places are gimmick holds if you want to be the “Niche commander” that does something new and exciting after failing a para split drop OP 10 minutes in but arguably req and briefing holds can work well and are dare is say SOVL.
Make a memorial/ church hold. Die in proper place and with honor, next to fallen comrades. Hell even morgue, dont need to move the corpses anywhere, free intel
Queens should always land engineering and order the hive to hold it. Bonus points if they watch youtube for the 20 minutes it takes for hijack to timeout.
