The Wiki is in such a shitty state right now. You can’t find anything without digging extensively, the stuff that is there is HORRIBLY outdated, and nobody is even really maintaining it.
The Lore is weird, the updates to anything are plentiful or mediocre, and no Marrone or Steelpoint… I cannot contribute, because I am new and know nothing. It’s kinda sad really.
The Evolution Guide is still using the old shitty models (the horrifying runner holy), Old Fiornia is still on the map page, and nothing about the maps being tmed are in there. There is almost practically no information worthwhile in the wiki outside of a few select guides. I have a saying, the wiki fucking LIES. AND IT DOES IT ALOT ACTUALLY.
There is NO METHOD to the MADNESS. there isnt even MADNESS because its just NOT BEING MAINTAINED.
maybe im wrong, but this is from what I see. and if you are maintaining it, thank you sir or ma’am or whatever
I was on this beat for a bit too. I’m just sympathetic for the poor wiki maintainers at this point. Can’t be super easy to juggle every test merge that happens on a whim and that can last for several weeks at a time. Its a fun meme game that doesnt get updates in the same way as larger titles because the team is just a community of people. That also means the updates might contradict previous ones (occasionally in unexpected ways)
seems like an impossible job with the merge format frfr but its decent enough
and no Marrone or Steelpoint… I cannot contribute, because I am new and know nothing. It’s kinda sad really.
this was something of a lie, i know the basics to everything, and could probably teach people a bit of GP
however, issue being i dont know the standards of the wiki, i dont know what staff hold it up to, i dont know the formatting, and the navigation is something i cant fix. nav is very counterintuitive
Yeah man these silly wiki maintainers and their silly buddies the host and head manager??? Like guys what are we paying you for??? Maybe its time to get serious??!!
There’s a wiki work channel on the discord, you can ask around there for help on how to edit pages, create new ones, etc.
As for lore on the wiki, one of my main plans as the new lore coordinator is getting the wiki up to date, with the lore for each map on it’s wiki page.
As a person who has maintained a number of wikis for both hobbies and work…
Keeping an up-to-date wiki is an impossible task. Obviously the more people that pitch in, the closer it can be to being up-to-date but it really almost always boils down to:
Three people who are all-in and do 80% of the work choosing to fix up pages that speak to them specifically while running, if they’re a GOOD team, on average about 1.5 years behind
I can’t even “well why don’t you contribute” to this because at the end of the day, even if you do, even if you become the Lord of Markdown and Bane of Bad Formatting Everywhere, the wiki will still be out of date. And someone will still complain about it 3 months down the line. I feel bad saying it but unless all PRs are frontloaded with auto wiki stuff and the work is made even more tedious for code contributors, there’s no way to keep the documentation relevant. You are better off codediving for a specific thing.
People who contribute sort of kind of enjoy spreading knowledge but above all you have to really like web design and writing to feel anything by doing that work. The technical debt comes for us all in the end…
No one maintains the wiki, those that do cannot be fucked to keep up with the insanity that is constant TMs, CM is updating faster than some indie games while being dramatically smaller.
It’s honestly just a sad reality that literally will never change unless some people pick up the torch and get to it. There’s nothing we can do besides pray for contributors to the wiki.
