How exactly does open or closed source impact the ‘soul’ of CM? That’s nonsensical. You do understand that the maintainers in charge of the codebase still hold final authority regardless, right? Any changes you discredit by blaming them on open source would most likely still be approved under closed source.
There is no positive to closed source in this environment. A closed source project without financial incentive in a community that prides itself on open source is going to stagnate, flounder, and die.
Not to even mention the licensing issues that make closed source impossible here…
