Title. I remember the test however long ago, I’ve been playing Russian Marines and despite every voice being from other games, a lot of the voices sound relatively good and having announcements from the XO read outloud is kinda nice.
Might be to do with me understanding Russian more naturally, and I know it’s a controversial topic but I’m kinda interested as to what ever came of the TTS Test we had.
I remember TTS. It was awful. I can see it being useful for things like command announcements, but in reality it was the most cacophonous racket this game has ever known.
People complained that they don’t like it, but because they are behaving like “Gardener’s dogs” they won’t let you have it, even they don’t want to use it.
We could have TTS being disabled by deflaut and then anyone who wants it could turn it ON, the rest and new players have it turned OFF. But for some reason those people refuse still.
It was said that it doesn’t create lag, so I’m waiting for a good argument against having TTS on the server that is turned off by deflaut to everyone.
What if it was turned OFF as default and you could turn it on to hear it, but otherwise everything stayed the same? Still overwhelming?
One of the RUCMs is at most 10-20 below CM13, the other one is perpetually 10-20 players.
On pops similar to CM13, the shipside radio pre-drop is very overwhelming.
I thought the same thing at the time, and honestly the reality was that the voices kinda sucked and there’s nothing stopping people who have TTS disabled to make ultra annoying voices to make the people-who-do-have-it-enabled’s experience worse
It was tested for approximately 3 rounds over the space of about ~4 hours and it was banished to the bottom of Hell because people wouldn’t stop meme-ing it. Personally I didn’t get to test it but it would have probably been fine once the novelty wore off (and yet it was taken out back and shot the same day).
