why do my posts always make the biggest arguments ever bro… im not even trying to ![]()
this is roleplay the way those people want it, so they steer the game into it
it’s not my server and that’s fine i’m just saying that more rules = worse in general
i wasnt going to engage with you not because i think you’re trolling but because i’ve had this conversation 100000 times and i need to realize it’s pointless
ZRP is actually HRP i am a ZRP individual irl ty
Im also lrp because I don’t follow creepy people into The Secondary Locations and I have omniscient knowledge about the Game World irl fr fr
Notice how jooks says to watch the second, clearly superior movie
But the convention of CM is a world set in “Alien Extended CM Universe” and not a VRchat, where one guy can RP a Sonic (with a Sonic avatar) and the other can RP doctor House. While both could do a masterfull job, being both funny and kind of belivelable, it wouldn’t be immersive to meet the same duo in the same scenario in a roleplay set in girtty World War II movie.
Sure, vanilla SS13 is a miss-match of various franchises (Dead Space engineer suits, xenomorphs, Startrek medcine etc) and people could be kind of doing exactly what I described, someone RPing an alien hedgehog with sonic manerism and somebody could roleplay a doctor “Apartment”. Hell, on Paradise I often just straight up RPed as Brotherhood of Nod Confessor and nobody had a problem with that. But this stuff won’t fly in CM.
Every single one in this forum is pointless. Nobody takes anything from anyone. Devs have their discord group of friends they ask for feedback and only a serious issue spanning both game, discord and forum can nudge admemes into doing something. Nobody will change anybody’s mind.
HRP in my mind is going above and beyond to express your character or tone of a scene/interaction through lots of thematic effort (usually through well written dialogue, emotes, etc). Frankly its basically about putting in more detail than is generally ‘average’ in a situation in such a way that it leads to more immersion for everyone involved. A marine rolling around on the floor screaming after having been slashed or shot is a good example, its putting aside mechanical gain (meta) for good quality roleplay and immersion, even when it puts you at a disadvantage.
Simply playing a consistent character and being open to IC interaction feels like the bare minimum standard for MRP (though it does seem to be a hard ask for a lot of people nowadays).
I find making your characters larp a bit is very atmospheric and adds immersion, which is just as important to roleplay than speaking out conversations and making emotes which people have already touched on.
Saying stuff like: “fuck, im hit”, or “frag out!” are super immersive. Oftentimes when im playing non senior roles like rifleman or comtech I might refer to lurkers as “cloakers” and ravs as “scythers”, and others the like. Thats mostly situational though deending on how serious and obvious it is (and wether ur getting ur ass kicked in the moment)
I also try to tie in my character with some subtle quirks/traits. For example, Sergeyevich my marine and survivor character tends to stutter, but also yells constantly when in combat. My synthetic on the otherhand constantly uses marineering terms, if the area is dangerous its “stormy”, if the cades are getting hammered in theres a “torrent”, to him, many xenos are just colloquially referred to as “eels” or “serpents”.
if u do your job its hrp already
reviving and kitting marines as medic is hrp
private/pfc/rifleman shooting xenos is hrp
SL/FTL calling cas/ob is hrp
Shooting MPs is HRP if your squad preference is delta
Could not have said it better my self.
