The real problem with this server and the reason I stopped playing a long time ago is that the people who write the code for this game do not give a single solitary flying fuck about what the players want, need, or enjoy. They have their own “vision” for how the game should be enjoyed and player feedback is nothing more than an irritation to them, as has been made repeatedly clear.

It is a damage buff because you are getting more shots out that you normally would not get, therefore increasing your damage overall. It increases your DPS. Damage per second.
This is only relevant if you’re actually getting out and hitting with more shots - it’s not entirely as simple as a straight DPS upgrade because more often than not a xeno player only exposes themselves long enough for 1, maybe 2 hits even with a spotter involved. Mostly you’re gaining hit opportunities where it wouldn’t have been possible (0->1 hits), rather than gaining more hits in a row (2->3 hits). It’s a nuanced situation because there’s essentially a huge amount of noise in the hit rate and the weapon is primarily an alpha strike one, rather than sustained DPS and its ideal use-case is finishing off an already wounded xeno that’s overextended itself and killing it in a single shot; which doesn’t exactly translate to DPS but is still very strong.
When it comes to alpha-strike weapons like sniper rifles and shotguns, DPS comparisons start getting really iffy. I’m not sure what the DPS is on the shotgun but if its something like 200 damage per second compared to an M41’s 50 damage per second - that doesn’t mean the shotgun is 4x better than an m41 - It’s a weapon heavily predicated on positioning with a split second PB or accurate shot and not sustained and consistent damage, so it should naturally sit at a higher DPS than you might otherwise expect because it can’t actually apply that DPS like an m41 could; the DPS of a buck shotgun at 7 tiles is 0.
