Hey guys
, im a beginner cook and i want you to check my fried(burnt
) potatoes with some paprika and hot sauce, do you think i can add something to it or perhaps i overcooked it?
first off the heck you puting paprika on fries… i hope you at least roasted the paprika while the fries are cooking. on other note it looks fine and not too over cooked issue is looks like you didn’t get the potatoes dry enough before cooking. If you don’t pad the fries dry before cooking them they tend to get soggy.
I dont know what you were going for, but I would cook the potatoes to be soft and then fry them to become crispy on the outside
thanks for the feedback, i will do so next time i cook
Few note on paprika. i mostly use it for stews like goulash or paprikash so i not quite sure how to best use it for some thing like fried potatoes. but normally what i do with my paprika is fry in bit of oil while i sear the meat whether it be beef or chicken.
Now if you are making your potatoes only in thin layer of oil i think you can likely do the same. But you only need to fry paprika for about 30 seconds to one minute so it should likely be only done at the end.
As for how it should look it should… “bloom” like flower i know its bit odd but that kind of looks like. it will darken in color as well and will likely get bit bubbly/frothy. normally when you are done frying paprika you deglaze the pot with stock or water… but you can’t really do that for fries but key think is to remove it from heat so stops cooking.
Now if are just useing the paprika for the color then do go head and just sprinkle it on top, paprika that is not fried does not taste offensive or anything it just doesn’t taste good really so as long as you don’t use a lot it can make dish look much more pretty.
Once fried paprika has a nice aroma and deep red color hence why it great for stew… still uhh after reading all that i wrote… uhh best not try to fry the paprika with the potatoes i mean it could work but likely will be very finicky and be hard to pull off…so i guess i just wanted to yap about paprika.
i get the point, thanks again, good im not the one washing the dishes
I see we do food reviews now.
Make sure you wash your potatoes beforehand and dry them as it will rinse out the starch and give u some super crispy potatoes.
Since im Spanish, how we do it is we rinse them, boil them untill the exteriors are crumbly and textured, then fry it in either olive oil or beef fat, usually in cubes but I think you can do it with fries too and it will be super crispy. If you’re going for the Spanish style where they’re crumbly on the outside you need to make them kinda thick so they dont fall apart, what u have is perfect for it!
Spanish style fries sound absolutely delicious.
Truth Nuke! I can eat three or four whole taters just that way with a nice steak
I may need to experiment now.
impressive bait and switch my friend 10/10
thanks for the feedback, ill try it when able to
I love these kinds of threads. Wholesome food discussion. Thank you all.
do you think mushrooms would fit fried potatoes?
depends on the mushrooms, both potatoes and mushrooms can be earthy… But yes i believe it could. Portobello could go good, slice into mid size slices and then Sauté in a bit of oil until tender and browned. i for one like to use butter.
quite meaty and savory if done right.
alas i don’t cook with mushrooms too often so can’t say much more than that.
From my experience even if things don’t come out right as long as it edible and doesn’t go to waste trying different cooking experiments can help you build up a understanding of flavor profiles. I am horrid at following recipes but can just throw together some to eat out of rather random stuff, as i have tried enough stuff and understand the flavors of things and how they mix.
Yes. Oh yes. We hunters take our meat after harvesting sometimes. Even deer, after gutted we take out some meat, fry it get some mushrooms with it. Potatoes IF someone bring it. We all love the potato man in our group. Tomatoes and paprika is a plus. Honestly we do what we have. But mushroom sauce with fried meat. Anything added is going to make us monkey growd happy. We are simple beings, specially in the wild with my friends. Everything is better than just meat. Now I miss hunting again, damn you
