Why do survivors get free comms?

Wouldn’t it be cool if survivors weren’t given roundstart comms?

There would be many benefits:

  • Make finding another survivor a fortuitous event.
  • No coordinating a meta hold with the entire survivor team. You find somewhere to survive, on your own if you have to.
  • Being unsure about the status of a friendly survivor when they run off.
  • You can’t just call out “HELP IN X!!!” when you get caught, no one will know to scrape off your corpse and revive you.
  • Contributes to survival horror.

Just make random and rare radio spawns

This turns every survivor into a locker hider.

Or it punishes new survs even more for not knowing where the already meta holds are and where people will usually go.

Punishes new survivors who can’t be handheld into what they need to do.

Survs who knows what they’re doing can just run the loot without needing to say or co-ordinate anything and meet up at THE meta hold.

Why is this in Acid Goop?

Surv mains even without comms will just rush meta places, removing comms only more discourage people to try surv, hence will make it surv mains exclusive > more nerfs needed since they will use their meta strats.

Do you think new surv players join to get instantly hit with “breaching ETA, lets go mining”, or maybe they join because they believed the false promise of a horror-like experience, which is completely ruined by roundstart comms?

If we made them all spawn together, with only like 2-3 radios in the room with them, I could see it actually working. It would actually incentivize teamwork.

My face when the newbie survivor gets two tackled in their first 4 minutes of going with a pro survivor (or another newbie survivor unluckily if so) and dragged away, unsure if still motivated to learn survivor (since they just died after starting the round so early) since rounds are rather long if we look at it face value (rounds are xx:45 minutes at least, to 1 hour at most per average from my perspective since last month) and would the time invested be worth it.

In trying-to-be-lore-friendly Alien franchise games tho, xenos are nigh impossible/barely live on to fight head on and are sneaky (I think) so I guess lore accurate gameplay?

I feel like I remember ancient survivor days when they didn’t have coms.

But can’t tell if I am mis-remembering or not.

I mean, as part of some amazing horror-like rework for surv no radios would be awesome but ATM “radio or no radio” radio is the obvious answer.

Yeah man BIG SURV TOTAL REWORK is not happening, but we can start with small things to push the role into opposite direction from what sweatlords were doing with the role since survivor had busted stats.

Clearly not having anyone to talk with roundstart will move the role a bit closer to horror. Now you are alone, you need to find others first, or at least find a radio and try to contact them. Yeah, it’s not a silver bullet, it won’t solve all the issues, there will still be meta and yada yada. But still it’s a little improvement we can start with. It’s much easier and more effective to start small, rather than taking on a huge project with ambitious goals that will ultimately burn you out (many such cases).

Great mentality. Start small. Rome was not built in a day. It started with a small village.

I don’t think so.
