I talked about this idea very briefly with Bobby, but if we’re being serious.
Add palentine that works the same way as King.
Xenos get a XSS that needs 1 million plasma.
Over the course of the round you will fill it, as the round progresses it needs less and less plasma.
So at the 1 hour mark it needs 800k, 2 hour mark 600k, 3 hour mark 400k, etc etc until it turns into an interactable object that a xeno currently in round can go up and use that turns them into a palentine.
The palentine will do 80 slash damage, have 40k hp, and be around the same speed as a praetorian. Its the xeno version of the nuke, its there to end the round.
When its time to hijack it stays on the planet with the forsaken and just kills anyone still ground side. It’s job is to clear the planet of all non-xeno life.
So is a ‘siege xeno’ even meant to be winnable?
Once a nuke goes off the round is over, so…
Either siege xeno is reasonably killable; in which case it’s not equivalent to a nuke, or it just forces an immediate evacuation from the planet because the fob will be un-holdable.
And then what - does it get to go on the ship too? Then you can’t hold anywhere after hijack at all.
Also, why wouldn’t xenos sit planetside for 10 minutes every round to get a siege xeno to help on the ship? It already happens when xenos have a few caps and they’ll wait for them to burst before going up, they’ll definitely do it to get a siege xeno.
Not to mention xenos don’t have any ‘intel’ to grab, and also no way to protect comm relays against mortars, cas, or OB’s, but marines likewise don’t have good tools to clear massive resin forts without cas/mortar/OB.
And what happened to all that talk about how balance is supposed to be asymmetric?
Xeno ‘nuke’ has a lot of holes in it imo. I’m not even a big fan of marine nuke either. I guess we’ll see how the implementation looks after some work but at the theorycrafting stage it doesn’t sound like a good choice.
Palatine is an awesome idea, but plasma filling mechanic is awful. You need to dedicate drones to do nothing but fill the structure for dozens of minutes, this sounds extremely unfun. Idea of the thing being cheaper over time is interesting, but the mechanic should be different. Also queen should choose a xeno to be her palatine, it would be better. I think stats are way too busted, it shouldn’t be 40k hp, it should be defeatable (you can stop the nuke, so you should be able to stop xeno nuke).
I think this is a great idea. Hope it could be implemented.
I was thinking it would be like the uber on dead space. You can run from it, but you will never kill it. It’s there just to fuck your shit up and end the round.
