Separate the Military Police between a part focused on investigation, extensive patrolling and peacekeeping and their representative, possibly some type of judge, that would have even higher standards that the usual Military Police units, and would: fiscalize the MP units in service on the match, train new Military Police cadets and conduct low and high level appeals to prisoners (using a courtroom to conduct the processing of capital criminals, giving them the possibility of defense).
That “judge” would have final say upon those decisions but would still be below the Command heads (XO and CO), so the two figures would still be able to conduct an appeal, but only if they personally wanted, and not because they exclusively need to.
If no “judge” is present, everything would run exactly how it is now.
The man idea is to give the Military Police a high-requirement position for experienced players, where they would be able to orientate the Military Police and would take the more fragile affairs from possible unexperienced personnel (Such as new CMPs), resulting in less…headaches and a little less provost.
Thats the CMPs job. Military ships dont have judges. The closest equivalent would be the CO. No punishment is permanent, the only exception being execution. Its safe to assume that icly there would be a proper court martial after crimes with permanent confinement, literally detainment until transfer.
have to side with that being the CMP’s job, tho i can see why you came up with this, investigations rarely happen and when they do they are usual really low effort, maybe a detective role would be a better idea.
It’s real hard to do a proper investigation as MP, because:
Most of the witnesses probably hate you and want the guy who did it to go free
And any witness that doesn’t have a reason to dislike the guy is probably lying to you because of that
So you’d probably have a better chance of getting a reliable source in a room full of pathological lairs.
“A judge representative” is only a way that I thought of putting it, that’s why I put it between quotation marks. The CMP is usually not fit for the job, and most of the time they just coordinate the MP actions and such, they usually rush appeals and investigations, and even the lowest number of evidence is already enough for a full apprehension.
That’s why the idea is to maintain the CMP as the head of the forces, but add someone that is above the affairs that the usual MP and the very own CMP units would usually pursuit.
That “judge” would only need to use that court in capital crimes, which means they would literally need to pass the prisoner through them before executing them. For anything else the court room would be completely optional.
And also, in no ship you literally execute someone without them passing through a court, if the point is “detainment until transfer”, firing squads are absurd.
Detectives don’t make sense on this context, and the MP enforcers can proceed with investigations quite well when they want.
Executions in CM are summary like the COs battlefield execution.
They’re just part of the game, and HC can always be contacted by the prisoner beforehand. I agree that it doesnt make sense if we compare it to real life but thats just the games universe apparently.
Doesnt justify having a military tribunal, defense, prosecution and a ‘judge’ or equivalent on a 200 crew troop transport, in my humble opinion
Others have already covered what I’m saying but I have a compulsive need to participate, but yeah: Imagine what we’ve got on places like the Almayer and other SS13 server’s as like, that back room that Asset Protection takes shoplifters to until the cops get there or to see if things are bad enough to actually involve cops. Anybody getting perma’d or needs serious attention will just be in a cell until everyone gets back to port and a tribunal can look at the case.
COs should be able to hold a court martial. They can already discharge or admit people into the USCM, why not let them fully charge people.
So we instead break it into a new role that will likely be played by the same players who play CMP? I mean if they can’t ensure the prisoner gets a fair hearing as CMP i doubt they will as a judge.
Also what rank would they be? if they are below command then they’d also be below CMP who currently you can appeal to,Infact it’s mentioned on the CMP description that you need to ensure a fair appeal is done.
hard no, frankly. more ML fuckery is not at all what this game needs
Harry doing gods work.
YEAH LET’S GOOOOOO

It is funny how a Provost Marshal or a entire squadron of Provost Enforcers can arrive within 5 minutes of a fax, but reinforcements have to take weeks or months to arrive.
Wait. You’re getting provest?
HC knows Almayer is crewed by literal monkeys so they have a provost ship tailing them at all times
