A Shitty Guide to Corporate Liason

boredom

Chapter One : Roundstart
Congratulations! You’ve rolled the most fun and insane yet most boring and dull role in the entire game! You can pretty much play it however you want. Corporate Casual? Yup! Evil Space Fascist #2232 who wears a black fedora and suit!? Why the hell not? You can do you, as long as the main driving force is Corporate-Aligned, a fancy way of saying ‘No, you cannot make bioweapons if we do not tell you to’.

I would recommend organizing your space first, and getting to know the poor idiot Marines which are going planet-side. Never leave the Executive Selects or Golden Zippo on your desk if your character is a smoker. If you leave it there, marines will 100% blow a hole in your office to get it.

Chapter Two : THE WIKI LIES
Never walk into CIC with a document. Just don’t. If you were on good relations with them before you wont be now. They are going to burn it, it’s not even worth it. Sometimes you’ll even get told you’re not allowed back in CIC. Only do this if your Fax Responder wants to, it’s just not worth it otherwise. Please, listen to me.

Secondly, you cannot rely on the MPs for shit. 8/10 times they will side with the Marines. The MPs, meta or not, will always think you are up to something. No matter how hard you try to get on their good side. Finally, Marines are going to frag you if you ask for anything. You will be beaten up, and you will be happy.

Chapter Three : What do I actually do?
Be a worse Fax Responder that’s on the ship. Generally. Your only friends are anyone who accepts a bribe and Research. Research is where the juicy RP is at, and its where you’ll want to be for most rounds. Never mention Ethics, most Researchers already don’t have them. You’ll be disliked if you do mention them.

If the Round is taking forever, maybe it’s a good time to go to CIC and actually start stuff. Remember, theres a low chance you’ll see a Fax Responder at all, if not without admin intervention, as they will occasionally substitute for Fax Responders.

45-46 some hours as CL has given me this wisdom. be advised, in a year it’ll be 1000

Also, always carry your ES-4 and pepper spray (I like to steal from the brig and keep a spray bottle on me at all times) to equalize the playing field. Do be mindful, though, that if you shoot the ES-4 at someone, marines can and will shoot back at you with REAL bullets, so pick your battles wisely.

Never hurts to tightly grip your cane to get an advantage in a fisti-cuffs fight!

Fun Fact: You can hide a machete or a katana in your hollow cane. Do with that as you wish.
Otherwise, CL is best played when either an admin you know cares is on, or\and high-pop. Lowpop rounds usually end in 50 minutes and if they take longer there’s 8 people on the ship, including you, so unless survivors want to do mischief shipside there’s nothing to do.

addendum :
the wiki lies AGAIN. Interviewing Survivors is boring as fuck… even if there are Survivors, and even THEN, most of the time they wont mention anything interesting because well, the don’t KNOW anything interesting. Corporate Goons/Security planet-side might be temporarily reassigned to you if you get lucky, but good luck expecting survs not to frag

ALSO, the Paperwork is bad and outdated, try to always make custom documents, but never take too long. I spent… 10-15 some odd minutes making a wholess contract and the IOs I was making the Contract for started trying to blow a hole out of my office because they thought they were being kidnapped

ALSO! always your Private Research Cell if Research is doing anything unethical, there’s a few times I’ve really considered it especially with Greenos. On that note, if Research is making Greenos immediately Fax. Weyland-Yutani’s biggest thing is making xenos into bioweapons. You would not want to leave them out.

Now for some more general tips!

TIP ONE :
Admins will never respond to a (Corporate) Distress Beacon. It will generally not spawn PMCs like in the Hijacking Distress Beacons, but instead a Corporate Bodyguard. They can extract you in case of emergency, as they come with a free shuttle. Don’t expect help at all, though.

TIP TWO :
Nobody will sign a contract from you. Unless its a PMC contract, then everyone will, but if you hold PMC Contracts against everyone, Corporate isn’t going to be happy. If there aren’t any Responders on, you do have a bit more liberty with what you can do.

TIP THREE :
”Remember that the Liaison is a bureaucrat. A Liaison doesn’t solve problems with brute force or cunning, but through paperwork. Find samples of legal forms online and write condensed versions of them.”

The Bureaucrat is rarely given the resources to be one. Maybe controversial, but the only time you’re going to realistically going to be faxing Corporate is

  1. Shits fucked
  2. Event
  3. Responder Online (rarer than you think!)

so… unless you are solving problems with a fucking Grenade, you can take a few liberties with problem-solving. CIC is always tired of something and you’re a great target.

Same goes for the corporate bodyguard role thats occasionally on TM. If he blasts you with his loser less-than-lethal, blast back with actual lethals like a chad

Wait, so if the electric pistol and shotgun can be fired back with lethals, does not the same apply to rubber rounds for the MPs?

More of a rules question, but its said MP tools aren’t considered lethal weaponry, and I assume rubber rounds are MP tools, so you probably can’t respond with lethal force against MPs unless they shoot with lethals

Couldn’t you just classify the electric guns as “MP” tools? Feels so wierd that everyone knows they only have non-lethals, but can respond as if they were lethals.

It’s a grey area. Some admins consider shooting a CL for using his stun gun improper esc

You can only get Rubber Bullets from the Riot Armory, so what I’m presuming is that it classifies as Riot Gear and cannot be used without CMP, XO, CO, or MW(?) approval in a otherwise Riot scenario

also, I do want to add on

if you want to be a interesting Corporate Liason always act like you’re hiding something, some admins might consider it self-antag but its a great RP hook if nothing is happening

examples being :
Walking into Research, and being overly curious on poisons and the sort.
Walking into CIC, and having a bunch of papers ready to sign
Bribing the Intelligence Officers to bring intel to you
(note : Intelligence Officers like you more than marines like you, so :man_shrugging: )

Vim Croi will pay in blood.

I do not agree to this. I’ve been CL a few times and I’ve been a bodyguard to CL outside of hijack.
Admins will never send you a bodyguard if you’re asking for him for no normal reason (ex. I wanna go groundside is NOT a reason).
As long as Corporate Liaison keep himself useful, makes faxes, and probably retrieved some good assets, most of Admins will send you atleast a general goon to defend you incase something goes real sideways on the ship and you’re the one hunted. Could be also PMC.

in most normal rounds this never happens unless something is actively going wrong on the ship (event). You should still do it but keep in mind theres a higher chance they won’t. The ONLY time I’ve had a Bodyguard was when a Yautja was actively killing marines onboard.

maybe it’s because i’m still relatively new but this is just what I’ve experienced

everything in this guide is outdated due to the new update and is no longer applicable

everything

fun fact about pepper spray, you can make your own with ground up peppers from the kitchen vendor and a little bit of phoron
