I feel like this would be really cool since it would give people a lot more ability to communicate their character’s features, personality, and qualities. I also believe it would encourage people to develop their characters further since some people get demotivated from doing that due to not being able to fully express the character they have in mind through a 32x32 sprite with pre-made features. This is a feature a lot of niche servers have implemented and I believe it works really well there.
It should definitely be mentioned that there’s a risk of people using this feature to upload no-no stuff with the intention of griefing, so I would like to see what the staff team thinks of this idea.
What a terrible idea. I already cringe when I examine someone and see an HTML link to YourAverageAnimePfp.png, and you want to flashbang me with these whenever I press Shift+LMB
I mean, in a pixel game about marines shooting aliens I’d rather see pixelated marines and aliens, not MGE brothers. If someone wants to thoroughly describe the mole on their char’s left buttock - flavor text is good enough
If you’re not personally interested in having fun building a character (which is what CO, Synth and Pred WLs are all about) then that is perfectly fine. This game is a blend of both roleplay and gameplay that offers many different things for people to do and find fun in.
However I don’t see how “I personally am not interested in partaking in this” is a good argument for not including something many, many people on the server do enjoy doing.
and you want to flashbang me with these whenever I press Shift+LMB
No. In the servers this feature is implemented in, you open the image by clicking a button/hyperlink that appears when you examine a character. Ideally it would work the same way here.
Why have you even brought up WLs, lol. We’re discussing the pfp feature you propose, not whitelists
I mentioned WLs because they’re proof that this community has many people who enjoy character building and see the game as more than just a pixel shooter.
Runs risk of abuse (goatse picture on examine) ((I don’t think this is a big deal, it’s already possible))
Inconsistent art styles
I think a good alternative would be something like a character creation pfp that you can make or select out of presets and which would then display in the character description like you say. This would help keep a consistency to the style and prevent potential abuse, but limits creativity of users and is harder to implement.
