About the recent marine victory streak

Hey, for the last day or two marines are winning pretty consistently on a 40-55 minute mark. Anyone knows why is that? Did xenos just get hit with an orb of confusion after winning so hard so many times after that many buffs?

I took a little break from xeno, so that’s probably it. When I log back on I’m sure xeno winrates will sort themselves out.

Depends on what time you play.

Likewise I haven’t been able to play SG and turn IFF off in a few days, hope this helps

I haven’t been on queen recently, so you gotta deal with the noobs. My bad.

Overall its been pretty even but obviously its heavily dependent on the players who decide to play.

Hold on let me contact the Shadow Council. We need to continue the Marine win streak.

Less people play = individual players shine more, so depending on what those players play you get win/loss.

Yeah yesterday was literally like 10 straight games of sub-50min marine stomps. We were talking about it on the discord, personally I think it’s a culmination of things. Balance is a big one. People were saying not many experienced players were on xeno. Personally I don’t think the entire game should pivot around whether a specific person decides to get on and frag or not, but that’s kinda what happens when you balance entire castes around the top 1% of players.

But also shorter rounds was the development goal for quite a while, and with the addition of things like nukes and sensor towers, any chance of prolonged rounds has basically been diminished. I saw a few of the marine stomps the other day where xenos COULD have made a comeback a year ago, but now there’s literally just no time cause sensors are there with the explicit purpose of ending the round as fast as possible and marines bumrush remaining xenos before they can get back on their feet in any meaningful way.

It was done to get ghosts back in the game quicker, which is fair, but now it’s made the game ass for EVERYONE, living and dead. We get more roundskips than actual rounds now.

That happens no matter what, unless you make skill floor and skill ceiling almost the same. More often than not, that balance around top 1% of players is lowering the skill ceiling via subtle nerfs like vampire lurker was, a prime example how to do it semi-correctly (better to nerf one piece of a faction to the ground, than let it be OP) in the end.

There is something to tell about specs and Queen having too much of an impact, while other suffer, though. If Queen and specs weren’t that important, the impact of not having robust guys in those roles would be much lesser.

I too very much agree that the game result shouldn’t revolve solely around a few key players. Most of the time it is nigh inpossible for marines to win if a sweaty queen joins the round. Alternatively, even if a queen still gets carried by sweaty xeno team, time comes she will paradrop on reactors during hijack without any plasma & shit, leading to a full xeno wipe (like it did a couple of days ago).

My speculation is that some of the more experienced xenos with brazzilion hours played just don’t join in as much now with the start of an academic year, leading to a much smoother gameplay for marines, who were previously hardened by playing against the sweatiest xeno players in the world.

Rounds are balanced by what team the high-hour players join:

  • Prime Mafia joining Xeno will lead to Marines being encircled & destroyed by 00:40.
  • Young Mafia joining Xeno will lead to Marines killing Hive Core with no OB fired, even if Queen doesn’t suicide

Any win streak for one side (especially for lowpop where individuals hold even more power) usually means groups of experienced players coincidentally (or not) joined one team
