Add landmarks to tacmap

As a player who often finds it difficult to find my bearings while deployed in regards to comms callouts (for example ‘PUSH ETA’), I often freeze and realize I don’t really have clue where to go since I don’t know the maps as well as others and don’t have those locations memorized yet.

Yes, I know this will get better the more one plays and from my experience I have improved enough to find my way around, hoever for that to happen I had to sink in dozens and dozens of hours of struggle and sweat (even had to actually take a map with me which filled backpack slot). For new players this must be quite difficult so I propose an idea to copy each landmark and add it to tacmap.

This could be a toggleable option that would either hide or show landmark names on actual tacmap.

Some Staff Officers put in the effort and manually add those landmarks to tacmap (huge props to them for making our lives easier) but here I am thinking whether it would be possible to make this feature added and make this process easier for everyone. I don’t know whether it would be good balance-wise since getting ‘lost’ and struggling to find your way around adds on immersion but gameplay perspective it would make it easier for everyone, especially for those more casual/new players as QoL feature.

This is how landmarks look in regular maps.

never ask me to go to labmda or eta. I will go the wrong way every time

If removing paint off the tacmap wasn’t extremely tedious then CIC could easily label all the hotspots :frowning:

This would be an absolutely massive help for newbies and make the game less frustrating for them. Huge, massive +1.

Maybe you should use the map that’s available to you in vendor which is right below your uniform and MRE? It takes like a min or two at most to look at it and memorize it. If you choose to ignore it you should be punished for your ignorance not rewards.

When I see pvt carefully learn the map it was soul and I can trust that pvt to be competent, damn I sound like a boomer.

So true homie

If PVTs aren’t code diving in VSC then what the fuck has this game even become

They must suffer just as we did, I walked 700 miles across the Himalayas just to reach a free internet cafe in China to play CM for 5 minutes every day due to the Rasputin explosively depressurising every drop

newbies these days are too soft and coddled, no wonder marine skill levels have collapsed due to excessive handholding

I think there is already stuff for it? not sure but I think it is rather mappers deciding to use it, if it is not in then I am sorry, should be easy to add

This would be a massive QOL feature for everyone with so many maps we have now.

Yes, this is a very valid opinion and I agree to a degree but;

We’ve already gotten tacmap QoL update that tracks you in real-time and precisely pinpoints your location. As far as I know everyone pretty much loved this feature that came with reworked tacmap and I think adding this landmark feature is something that would make the tacmap rework truly complete.

But yeeeees…this change would bring comfort and QoL however also take away some roleplay and immersion. Controversial features like this are always difficult to measure the long-term impact without testing and community feedback, that’s why I’m glad to see opinions such as yours <3

I like this idea, now how can we do this but for when command give callouts such as: “QUEEN IS NORTH OF ALPHA SL, ATTACK”, and the tacmap hasn’t been updated 30 minutes and the icons are too damn small to discern anyway. Asking for a friend.
