I feel like the rules should be written in a way that makes it so they don’t need to be changed for every little addition/removal of game content. Explicitly defining which specific items fall under the category is also unnecessary, we don’t define what specific items are considered lethal, mp tools, or general/dangerous melee but people still know what is and isn’t. If our common understanding or the dictionary already defines something, it doesn’t need to be defined in the rules again.
Less-than-lethal weapons are weapons which are designed to incapacitate, but not kill, a target. It is often understood that unintended or incidental casualties are risked wherever force is applied, but less-than-lethal weapons try to minimise the risk of casualties (e.g. serious/permanent injuries or death) as much as possible. - United Nations Public Order Management Doctrine, 2014
I know one of the staff members have actual in-depth mechanical knowledge of how it works- All my information that wasn’t from me witnessing it was from that staff member talking in d-chat. I don’t remember who they were, given our encounter was like a month ago, but maybe you can find them in the staff exclusive channels?
I’ve tried recreating it, but I can’t get it to work. Furthermore, I don’t actually recall seeing multiple instances of the slug hitting either character- It’s as if one slug did all the damage, though that may be some kind of weird interaction with the combat logs.
You’d expect the ricochets to end up triggering cases of people receiving 2-6ish ricochets more frequently than instant-kills, which is weird- Since in my experience, it’s either been 1 baton slug hit, or instant kill
It doesn’t sound believable at all outside of actually seeing it in person (though there are plenty of witnesses, especially the CO-Insta-murder-BE incident lmao), so I believe that staff member is probably the best shot. I’ll try and ask around for more info.
I am of the opinion that HIRR slugs are not lethal, but I might be biased because I think they are very funny. As for HIRR slugs being able to kill: They can. They always can. It only takes a few (possibly even one without any bugs involved!) to frac someone especially if they aren’t wearing armor, which can lead to further damage. As for the instakill HIRR slugs, It’s a bug I can somewhat re-create. It usually happens when someone gets hit by a slug 6+ times in one tick, it’s especially apparent if they can’t be physically bounced around. (so, if they’re blocked from movement.)
If you get punched out of no where, you should 100% be able to shoot back with whatever you have depending on the circumstances. Sliced? Shoot back! Threatened? Shoot back.
Obviously the context of the HIRR was to defend requisitions. 100% justifiable as they’re destroying a work place ( I got the context from one of the admin reports )
I genuinely believe that it shouldn’t exist and the use of escalation should be judged in what the reason to it was
You can probably make a case for every single rulebreak using an in depth investigation that 100% collects all the nuance and context to make a judgement, but that would take one hundred million gazillion years to solve.
Just look at how awful those round-end delays already are.
Plus, every staff member is different. You have some hard-asses who note you for even farting in their general direction, and some who are so gigachad chill they basically invoke the right to not rule at all and sleep until Bob Vancleave is spotted near req.
Say what you will about some rules being shit, but I think escalation in particular is still very useful for establishing a clear and cut benchmark for everyone (which also cuts down on bias and time spent).
This server would be impossible to moderate if 150+ people were given the instructions, “shoot someone whenever you feel it’s justified, also here’s 20 grenades from req.”
