I was in dchat, talking with the other ghosts when Mayl Fore joked about wanting to get themselves perma-banned. To continue the joke, I suggested they RP taking a dump on the pride mural as that was bound to make someone angry. Not realizing how correct I was, I was then bwoinked a few minutes later by lagomorphica. Who after I explained myself said this “right, as much of a ‘joke’ as that is (and as unfunny as it is) that’s not acceptable to say on our server or imply or even instigate”.
The fact that they felt the need to clarify that the joke was “unfunny” is a more than a bit of a tell. They then went on to use “Rule 3 - Community Expectations” as the listed ban reason. I’m going to be honest, but polite as I can be. It’s clear to me that they were personally offended by the joke and reflexively banned me in anger rather than any real rule breaking on my part. Frankly, no one else showed any sign of being offended and at least one person appeared to get a laugh out of it. Not only that, the rest of dchat expressed genuine surprise that I was going to eat a ban over something so small when I stated it before it landed. It’s not the job of the admin staff to lecture on what is or is not funny. This doesn’t create an atmosphere of mutual respect, they could have just as easily talked it out with me instead. Instead it feels emotional and spiteful more than anything, especially when they put the word joke in quotations as if they think they are capable of telling me what my intentions were.
