Description of the incident:

I come in here to open a report for malicious incompetence and overall spirit of the whitelist on character Viktor R. Kleiner. In round ID 24857, Chance’s Claim, Viktor’s first order was to block the security checkpoints and allow only Squad Corpsmen to go through, a behavior which I believe is looked down by the WL. Instead of blocking the hangar checkpoints, the ones right outside of Briefing (west of it) were locked down, which gave a headache to everyone that had to go to Medical early on to grab supplies. I myself, playing as SADAR, had to ask him on Squad channel to let me through, which wasn’t answered.

The Briefing ended around 00:22 (not entirely sure) and the plan followed as;
BRAVO - FOB
ALPHA - ASSIST BRAVO IN FOB AND COMMS
CHARLIE & DELTA - DEPLOY THROUGH LZ1 AND SAVE FORECON

FOB: LZ2

There were two major tactical issues with the plan, the most obvious one was that Forecon died at 00:12 and were already perma by the moment we’d reach LZ1 (which the CO commented in LRC that it wasn’t important because they’d be worth their intel anyways) and that more than half the entire fighting force (Charlie and Delta were bigger when compared to Bravo and Alpha that round) was sent to a point which had no great significance in the round, as it was not our LZ nor was the secondary comms useful at this point in the round.

When loaded on Alamo, still pre-drop, Alpha SL Calum McDonald (a plat medal SL) made a request to move Alpha to Casino, which is directly north of LZ2, and set a staging point there. Calum informed the CO in Command channel at which he received no answer, when reiterating that he wasn’t authorized to follow the plan on Alpha comms he received an O.K from the CO Kleiner to proceed with what Calum himself proposed.

When hitting ground, Alpha moved to Casino and split up between a team on comms and another right on the edge of Casino. My information about the Xenomorph side is limited but I’ve been told in LRC by BUT (Lurker player of the round) that xenos scouting LZ-2 confirmed FOB was being built there, knowing this they immediately relocated to Hospital (even with the turrets being deployed at LZ1 since Normandy was launched first, which was pretty dumb by itself).

Alpha found itself overwhelmed by the entire Xenomorph force and was quickly wiped, Bravo went north to help and managed to scavenge some marines that had been killed (me included) while taking losses of their own.

Upon personal conversations with the Alpha SL, we both agreed that regardless of the course of action taken it would’ve resulted in the wipe of Alpha. Even if Alpha had stayed at the FOB as originally planned, it’s important to remember that this occurred early on, and there was a shortage of skilled ComTechs in both squads, leaving the FOB without any defensible cades.

As the round progressed, the FOB was being hit by the full on hive and most of Alpha and Bravo were out of operation by the time Charlie and Delta redeployed (which took around 13 minutes to be done).

In about 40 minutes into the round, xenos were already attacking Alamo and at this moment I snapped a screenshot of the balance of Marines (26) vs Xenos (28), which was absurd.

Alamo was overrun, and surprisingly the Queen does not hijack the Alamo, which was automatically sent up with half the hive on it. Nevertheless, by 00:50 into the round Almayer was wiped, with few marines delaying.

I think the plan was sloppily made and displayed a lack of competency. You’d expect more of a role that directly influences the whole round and is inarguably the most important of them all. Actions taken by the CO were completely detrimental to the enjoyment of the game.

Kleiner was already suspended for two weeks by the CO council for doing plans that were nearing griefing. An action that he was mad at and went on to make a forum post about it. Turns out that people like me, that work a 9-5 and hardly get a spec roll/is able to play the game don’t like prepping for 20m to have their game ended in 10m because the CO makes half-cocked plans that result in 1h rounds.

Furthermore, I find it curious that XOs like Frost Whitelock and Wayne Durstine, both of which that have been consistently outputing better rounds than Kleiner still get their apps denied. I wonder if Kleiner would get his app accepted in current age.

It should be noted for anybody reading this report that I hold no personal issues with Kleiner and this is my first time in 7 years of playing this game that I open a whitelist report, I just feel that rounds with Kleiner have been consistently demoralizing to play and I’m reaching a point of not joining any of them.

I just want to comment on the part about Normandy deploying to LZ1 first and causing the turrets to be sent there instead of LZ2. That was not due to the COs orders, it was the Normandy pilot who wanted to launch first (and did launch early) to ensure they got the turrets to them as opposed to LZ2. Logs should be able to show me (the Alamo) pilot questioning that decision but I do not recall it being something the CO ordered.

Hello, Aguia Vermelha. How are you doing?

During round 24857, I’ve made a plan that involved rescuing FORECON marines that were holding out North of LZ1. They have unfortunately died early on however. The only bodies that were near the area were the FORECON CO and Scout which I have judged were important to recover from an in character sense as they were killed in duty. From my character’s view, their remains should be recovered, identified and returned to their families so they could be given a proper burial.
I’ve decided to order two squads to recover the FORECON marines because FORECON reported that they were engaged against a superior opposing force. Sending one squad alone to North LZ1 to recover them would be risky as they could be wiped if xenos had a sizable force present in the area which is why I sent two squads so they could support each other in the recovery. Once the bodies were recovered, the plan was to redeploy Delta and Charlie back to Landing Zone Two, where our FOB was.
The dropship sentries locking at LZ1 wasn’t intended in the plan. It was a result of the gunship pilot dropping Normandy first than Alamo.

Alpha SL Calum made a request for a modification in his squad’s orders and I accepted it as I deeply trust in all Squad Leaders. It was an unfortunate fact that Alpha overextended too far north without support and communications. This was not intended and contributed greatly to the round’s derailing as the xenomorph hive had a free passage to assault North FOB. Furthermore, I believe that the plan overall wasn’t what caused the whole round to end earlier than usual but rather the uncontrollable actual combat outcomes in the round. From an in character view, the plan worked as we recovered the FORECON marines but the unforeseen Alpha wipe contributed to the defeat of the marine force. I did not expect Alpha to charge in headfirst alone but rather thought they were only going to conduct a scouting mission to Casino.

Regarding the security checkpoints, I’ve ordered them shut and manned by MPs to ensure that marines are present in the Briefing so they know the plan they are following. Even more so because the plan was more complex than the usual plans made in rounds so I wanted maximum attendance. Shutting Briefing checkpoints is hardly something looked down at, after all why do they exist in the first place? I believe playing a strict character isn’t something that should be frowned upon as it can lead to interesting situations in rounds. Shutting Briefing checkpoints was a common thing back in the day too but I can understand other COs not doing it often in present day as marines can get rowdy for not being able to move freely. After Briefing was done, I took around four minutes to give the dropship deployment order so marines could have time to get their supplies from vendors in Medbay.

I understand you being frustrated as getting some time to play CM is hard. I work 48 hours in a week and can hardly play the game too because of life however I did not have any malicious intentions by making this plan and the round ending earlier was not intended but rather an unfortunate outcome of some rounds. Personally I feel like Chances Claim is a map that is xeno favored as there is an ungodly amount of cover provided to xenos but a marine victory isn’t entirely impossible, just harder to achieve.

I hope you have a good day

Im going to cautiously comment here, as the Fax responder of the round I had a decent Idea of what was going on, perhaps more than most. I will stick to facts rather than my own opinion as much as possible. Delete this if its unwelcome.

The CO reasoned body recovery was a valid goal IC, and stated they were still valuable for intel.

The security checkpoints were stated to be closed to increased attendance.

The CO allowed the alpha SL to do his own thing, assuming they could handle , but they over extended and wiped.

The DP was rather confused why the GP had made the turrets deploy at LZ1, and I do not think the CO ordered that from what I saw.

The plan was not terribly unorthodox and most of what went wrong was out of the COs control.

Hey, FORECON Scout here, I was dead by the time first drop happened but I just wanted to make a note of the orders that I saw announced by Kleiner.

He knew we were dead and had announced in his post-briefing orders to recover our bodies, not save us. So I believe he was aware that we were dead and recovering our bodies was a courtesy and good RP.

Alpha squad lead here, my modification as I saw it was to develop a staging area at the Casino area and get some initial defenses to buff up the FOB. My view on sending all of Alpha to comms relay was an over-commitment of force and thus requested to divert to the Casino (while still committing a four man team to set up comms as to complete that objective).

At the Casino I was rather disorganized trying to get my bearings due to my squad dispersing and pushing ahead of the casino (walking into the xenos in the hospital one by one). I tried to order people back into the casino and ordered the comteches to take down the windows and to build barricades. In the end we got pushed back and most of the squad wiped at casino.

I personally think the issue was a mismanagement of assets, I don’t know why send two of the largest squads to recover bodies and have them rotate back to the LZ via dropship. From an RP point of view it does kind of make sense, but I can make a couple arguments against it.

Could the plan have worked with more tweaking and such? Maybe. Regardless of how it all panned out I think Alpha was going to get be wiped out if it was alone at the comms relay compared to the casino.

Right, sorry for this taking a while. Council has reviewed this report and has decided to issue a warning to the CO in question; they’ve been spoken to regarding this situation in private as well. We agree that the CO committed numerous tactical errors during the round in question that ultimately led to a loss that eventually fell on the CO’s judgment calls. While we respect roleplay and individuality in CO strategies, such should not be done to the point of intentionally issuing poor orders and strategies despite the circumstances. We’re issuing the CO in this report a warning against such behavior in the future.

This report will be called as resolved.
