Brandon here. An idea that’s been floated around in the discord a bit is the idea of allowing the WY Fax Responder to authorize a lawyer ERT through a distress beacon/fax asking for them. As an idea, why not do a test run? I think that it’d be a great change for the roleplay environment as well. While your role is to maintain the environment and respond to faxes, authorizing a beacon would only complement the “responder” part.
Lawyers do not have the same round impact as a bodyguard ERT, and like the Fax Responder and CL role in general, are very roleplay focused. With the current mod authorization system, Lawyers are only called for when there’s valid justification, typically there being a RP precedent (such as existing contracts or the nuclear protocol going to destroy the colony.) As fax responders already serve a secondary purpose as being a middleman for players and staff + need to keep track on the round’s goings (such as in this situation, the CL and any forms they do), allowing them the power of authorizing a lawyer ERT would both fit the existing spirit of the role and would make sense from an IC perspective. Like yautja/pred WL and the youngblood beacon, it certainly isn’t a new idea for the whitelist to call in beacons. Fax Responder is also bound by the whitelist so there exists both a degree of trust and competency to have good judgement for when a lawyer ERT is appropriate, and WL oversight to handle any abuses of the ability.
Allowing a lawyer ERT from fax responder would also both give the CL more roleplay avenues and incentives to use their beacons/fax machine, and the fax responder another thing to do. Alongside the fact that lawyers aren’t very round disruptive and only complement the existing roleplay environment, I think granting the responsibility makes sense IC and by WL guidelines and would only improve the game. While I primarily would love to see the lawyer ERT, perhaps if this is merged or a test run is successful the bodyguard ERT could also be considered, and then expanded into other responder roles such as HC and Provost if new additions are added to their roles.
