Give the helmet a toggle that puts it on the armor visually (not a new storage slot).

Would that mean losing the head protection while itâs âstowedâ? Would be a bit unfair to xenos who think they can decapitate you if it didnât, imo

I think being able to clip the helmet to your armour would be cool.

In theory this could be abused. What stops me from wearing a helmet and then putting another helmet onto my armor, while that helmet is filled with two handfulls of buckshot? Essentialy two free storage slots.
For extreme soul, you could just take off your helmet and hold it in your hand, while RPing that you hold it under your arm.
Make it take up the storage slots, or, we could adopt something like what PvE has and have different armour webbings (Ammo, grenades, shotgun shells), and maybe you could attach your helmet to it if you donât have any webbing? I dont know, just ideagusying here.

Nope, we already have something way better. You can attach G-8A belts to your exoslot(though some exos lack it, usually planetside equipment). Helmet would be a downgrade. Hell, you could even store helmets in there.
I mean yeah. As long as you use the exoslot and not some new imaginary free slot there would be nothing to really break.
The problem with this is not wearing a helmet is a signal for a xeno to be able to attack your head freely. By doing this change, Marines would be able to make xenos switch to head for attacks when it is not beneficial, reducing their effectiveness as they attempt to get a decap that cannot happen (or even waste a huge amount of time doing so in the case a warrior wants to be cheeky) instead of damaging vulnerable limbs/groin. Thus, while it would be VISUALLY nice (and would make people wear their damn helmets maybe), it would be a marine buff. (in b4 âxeno attacks only hit the targeted area 15% of the time anywaysâ)
Couldnât you just have it in your hand currently and have the same effect? Feels like a very nieche and strange thing to bring up that wonât really have an impact.
The idea is to have it as toggle, not to store it in suit storage slot. As you can see:
Storing it in suit slot wouldnât achieve what would be required for that âsoulâ as if you put it there, you have to hold your gun in your hand, which isnât âsoulâ.
There is no benefit for not wearing a helmet so every marine is expected to wear one balance wise. You can already put your helmet in your satchel and then whip it out mid-combat, does this affect anything? No, because xenos aim hand/feet anyway with some sometimes switching to head if they do see a snowflake without helmet. To change what you aim as a xeno, all it takes is just pressing a different num key.
helmet has 4 storage slots, although 2 are limited to food or cigarettes to syringe chems from. Having a way to expand suit storage through putting a helmet in the suit first is odd and cursed. As a medic, I would probably keep a second helmet in the suit slot for storage though.
Those who donât want a helmet wear their own special hats. Those who want a helmet wear it 24/7 for protection and storage. The only reason I would see a switch is some sweaty players switching from headband to helmet for tryhard unga frontline push time.
Not quite. Two are decorative item slots, which are 99.9% useless, the only fluff item with any use I can think of is ballistic goggles which provide protection from sniper laser sight if worn on mask/eye slot.
However it is true that it can take limited variety of two usefull small items, which in backpack would take more space than having them in helmets and having those in your backpack.

you can take 2 cigarette packs in the fluff spots, each worth a little over 300U in storage with a syringe, so medic use only. You can also put 2 burritos in them so you dont need to carry a MRE.
I believe everybody missed the idea behind the toggle part.
You would still be âwearingâ your helmet on your head slot, it would just appear on your armor while toggled âstowedâ, and count as not wearing a helmet at all for combat stats (this is the hard ?wyci part). To save on action button bloat it could be a dropdown/alt-click like some suits.

This is how I interpreted it. I also concur it would be a great soulful idea with no real balance issues, if anything youâd be losing head protection if you forget to shift your helmet back to the top of your head.
There should definitely be a very long delay to putting on the helmet (like 5-10 seconds) so as to prevent people from just running around helmet less and putting it on when they got into combat, that was the same issue brought in the previous thread. Also some additional features to prevent people from bringing helmets solely to carry more items and not wearing them as some may roll a helmet+helmet/hat combo to do so.
