Description of the incident:
Basically I was a scout and granted a CIC headset from the Major and I was asking where the communication towers were in the command radio and the drop-pilot [Quattro…?] said for me to “just look at the tactical map, jesus…” to which I told him it wasn’t updated and called him a “nonce”… I had no idea of the definition that it was to accuse people of being sex offenders but where I am from and other places they use it to call people stupid, So while it technically means paedophile it’s often used as a casual insult too if someones done something kind of stupid. the drop-pilot was also surprised i got noted for it when i told them.
I told this to stalkerino nearing the end of the ticket and just right after the note was applied and he said ‘You do not.’ and stated that it’s to accuse people of being sex offenders before closing the ticket.
But whilst it is true that this word can be used in different contexts, that being said I just want it removed because… I’m not about that whatsoever and I will just refrain from saying it again.

Didn’t participate in that round, but just to add insight- As far as I know, in Australia (or at least the people I interact with IRL) the word ‘nonce’ is used to describe people who do stupid stuff, like a synonym for idiot, etc.
This is my first time hearing that it also means a sex offender. So I’d say with good certainty that it means different things across different regions of the globe.

I am Australian, its not a common word but people of the older generation do use it. It is a derogatory slang meant as a stand-in for paedophile but it can also mean just a sex offender in general. It’s mostly an Australian and British slang from my memory.

“I didn’t know what the word meant.” Is not a valid excuse. You still used it, and here we are.
