As CE, I have been asked to open up the AI chamber for CMPs, MPs, and CMB folks to check things, like the culprits of explosions. However, it’s often we don’t get a response, either due to no admins or whatever it takes to grab the logs. Having it as a whitelisted role might alleviate that.
I dont think there’s a place for it. It’d be extremely boring and we’re essentially giving comparatively unvetted players log diving capabilities.
No, ambiguity is fun
Unlike many people think, ARES can’t be played like a normal SS13 AI, the thing inside the core is a complete dummy, if you get in control of it you realize that it can’t do absolutely anything, no announcements, no cameras, absolutely nothing. We don’t really have any of the legacy AI code from Baystation left, when TGMC made their AI role on basis of our code, they’ve mostly just ported all the stuff from TG. On itself all ARES related things are done via admin buttons and event tier things, and as it was already stated, since usually absolutely nothing happens shipside, it’d be an extremely boring role to play even if it had the code TGMC has.
Why not just have a special type of fax responder that acts as the AI core mind. Much like a regular fax responder they would have to get admin approval to do anything. But most of what people do with the AI is ask it questions. In that case the AI function in a very similer way to a regular fax machine.
Now I don’t have a fax responder whitelist so I can only speculate on the issue that might arise. But I do think this idea has more going for it then it would first seem.
People play Req and I have over 1,000 hours as MT and CE. People don’t mind boring roles, though it could have more meat added to it.
Furthermore, I say ‘whitelisted’ but that’s not to say you can’t make it a whitelist with higher standards- just hold an ARES player to an admin level standard and then log diving is a-okay.
The majority of the questions people ask (source: I’ve seen many) are not the kind of questions that anyone who isn’t an admin could answer.
I don’t realistically ever see this being added. Being ARES involves far too much usage of admin tools to ever give it (that is, a theoretical ARES role, such does not exist in any form atm) to people who aren’t staff.
Just hook Ares up to the openAI api
Basically it is a whitelisted role. It’s called Admin
Being ARES would require atleast Synthetic level responsibilities in RP department and they won’t ever add another whitelist, so here is your real and short answer.
Well, you see, MT and CE at least have freedom of movement, ability to deploy and a variety of tools and things they can do. In it’s current form, playable ARES would’ve been more boring than a Working Joe when there is no CE to give tasks via APOLLO. It’s not just boring, it’s AFK simulator. It will stay as only admin thing until someone reworks it to be an actual role, for which we have a plenty of good examples of implementation (Goonstation, Yogstation, Tgstation and others).
Forest where are you to prove these cringe ass nae nae haters wrong and add the AI responder whitelist
You just reminded me AI service tech exists.
