It’s not BTW, which I should probably write up in PR feedback: I can still roll an SL Slot, a Corpsman Slot, a Comtech Slot even an FTL slot in a squad I don’t want to play.
it still has prescience and during the PR test clearly had round impact. Squads are only as useful s the men in them. A simple name and size difference, isn’t going to change that.
???
So why would you prefer crippling Charlie with a small squad pop and inability to play spec/SG while also being in Charlie? People who play charlie obviously don’t want their beloved squad castrated because they have memories and enjoy playing with fellow charlie marines. If you want to preserve memories and such, I don’t see how you could justify fucking charlie over. Just make 3 main squads and keep the smaller squads + bravo for that focused rp experience e.g. kilo, lima, oscar.
People don’t want charlie relegated into irrelevance, and alpha and delta will literally be THE wordless unga ball if ASS gets merged as-is.
I’d much rather 3 frontline squads where alpha get 2 specs, 2 SGs, delta and charlie get 1 each, and bravo is dedicated FOB + auxillary smaller squads.
Ripen by abandoning your purple comrades for delta?
I see how it is
You left us for greener pastures
Perceiving us as an inferior breed
And no, I have no empathy for you, BOP… queen players dont deserve empathy!!!
Alexa, please summarize thread
“I don’t like this thing”
“Acktually you DO like this thing, because <insert gaslighting, straw man arguments>”
Honestly, are we doing another thread where people get told that “Charlie minus SG and Spec” is the same as “Charlie with spec and SG”… wait no its actually better because <more gaslighting, straw men everywhere>. Because doing that un-ironically is just galactically stupid. It’s also unnecessary for any argument about why you like A.S.S. If you like A.S.S. then that’s perfectly acceptable as a position. Also, newsflash, if you don’t. Are you sitting down? Shock-horror.. that is also perfectly acceptable. I’m sorry, that must have been a real shock. You can tell something is different, by the fact it is different. There’s no need to go all “acktually” on someones opinion.
At this point, I just don’t care. All I ask is that if it does get full merged, let’s do a round event where those of us who are charlie mains can have a nice ending.
And CM can get another orphaned system. Hopefully harry doesn’t mind getting another bespoke orphaned system that has to then be maintained. Everyone loves that.
Aren’t you only loyal to the squad with the SG slot mr smartgunner man
Im not trying to gaslight here, I am just saying my observations. ASS as a system has flaws. In particular. which isn’t addressed really. is that it kneecaps other squads by placing people disinterested in being in that squad into a squad where they dont want to be.
A way to shift the system is to make it so you functionally keep the old dynamics of Alpha, Delta, Charlie, Bravo. And have specs be placed into the Aux support squads, with SGs, and echo reworked into intel.
Charlie main here from the beginning of time. I started playing this game back when I was in 8th or 9th grade. I am now a college graduate looking fo rmy second degree, I’ve went through a long-term relationship, I’m looking for my third full-time job, my dog that I adopted around the time I started playing CM is now a senior dog, hell, I’ve moved countries and almost everyone in my life from that time has been replaced by different people. I’ve been Charlie since then and always try to go to Charlie.
The funny thing about CM is that while the playerbase is sort of a revolving door, it’s always very fun to hop on in your favorite squad and see some of the dudes you played with 6 years ago playing the same game for some reason. Makes you feel like unc
The ASS update however screws over at least a sizable portion of the playerbase because “we need support squads for more RP and round variance.” It’s a benefit I can get behind with, but at the cost of gutting my favorite squad? Just sucks.
There is an underlying assumption that less players in a squad = more coordination. I believe this is the rationale for limiting the amount of people within a support squad. In practice though it’s really much more complicated and is very likely not the case. Players rally around effective and coherent squad leaders. Anyone can join any of the support squads, get the rare roll, and then simply decide “Actually I want to AFK in FOB for 30 minutes / join the ungaball.” That’s why in full pop you get the rare Bravo engineer playing TF2 in the frontlines. Unless moderation decides “actually this is griefing", which would set a VERY bad precedent, this is not ideal. To begin with, most Charlies were almost always willing to listen to orders.
Charlie was always known as the medic squad. Hell, people have talked about it for years where they’d join another squad like Alpha or Bravo and realize just how slow the medics in that squad are (because they’re usually new players). Now the slot is just enough for one dude. The coveted Charlie spec, medicman.
Personally I would have loved to see an overhaul of the fireteam system RATHER than the squad system. This reminds me of how some devs in the past would remove certain features (in preparation for a really big update that they will release sometime this year, trust)
TL;DR inane rambling this update sucks for player culture but may be good for coordinating marines which can and should be done in another way instead of this
Your honor I call bologna! the ASS system demolishes Charlie as a squad by turning it into just 10 riflemen removing its ability to actively impact a round in a meaningful way, and its consolation prize for this is but ,hey you can make better memories then the old ones in Charlie. The current system is fine, and if XOs wanted to be creative allows for the freedom, where as this new system is more reductive then the current one its not going to increase cohesion between marines because the nature of the player base.
Did someone say Platoons?
this is true if ASS goes through without charlie retaining SG, then I’m immediately jumping ship to delta and kow towing at BOP’s feet
this is the funfact rework all over again.
“you guys are only allowed to have fun through the mediums we dictate.”
fun fact can hardly be compared to this, people were literally catching shit for killing enemy players or reviving people because people thought their only motivation was to get on the fun facts- That’s the actual impetus.
it didn’t restrict how you played or much of anything- Anyone who crosses the minimum has a fair shot, and the minimum isnt even that high. People play exactly the same as they did before with minimal differences.
The same can’t be said of ASS, a dedicated assault squad with a decade of culture is going to get it’s purpose and scale dramatically resized. I get the vibes behind what you’re saying, but I disagree heavily with the opinion that you can compare the two, given one is relatively trivial and is basically flavour text, whereas this has a significant impact on how a sizable chunk of the playerbase experiences the game.
I’d rather the squad i play every day not just getting shot in the knees, we dont need someone coming in to arbitrarily decide which squads can and can’t be effective
like..who in charlie squad asked for this? who in charlie squad said they want to have less firepower and less flexibility in exchange for a vague nothing of “organization” which still doesn’t exist as the fraggers will ignore orders and join the unga ball anyways?
waves my paww… Im a active charlie. Hell i made my name in charlie. Give it a chance.
Vast majority of COs are big fans of the new system specifically because people are opting in to play the smaller squads with more specialized purposes. With the current, largely unfocused squads (excluding Bravo), SLs struggle to get anyone to listen to them or actually have a round impact - and all the good SLs end up applying for CO or playing CIC anyways. When ASS is on TM you actively see COs competing with one another over who gets to be in charge for that round, because people in those small squads actually listen to their SLs and their SLs feel like they have round impact.
So like… I don’t know where you’re getting the impression that the CIC playerbase doesn’t like the new system.
yeah it’s supposed to be purely opt in, if you’re getting dumped in support on accident please let us know
Why did you nerf the squad sizes in ASS by removing essential Marines like SG and Spec. ASS was supposed to streamline Medic and Comtechs into their own “Oscar, Kilo" squads not SG and Spec. Like imagine if all medica were Oscar. Then all Comtechs were Kilo. It would simplify the orders a bunch.
