Would you all be behind the change if the support platoons were changed to were they are squads apart of Charlie platoon, and all different shades of purple? and also given a form a specialist and smart gunner, that while not as strong as the original versions still pack some form of a punch? like a reserve Sadar with 2 disposable sardars, or Pyro that doesn’t get the T broiler, but the standard pack and with small blue flame tanks. and to replace SG a HPR gunner that gets specialized ammo. Essentially preserving both the overall culture of Charlie in some way, the effectiveness of the squads and allowing people who were Charlie Spec and SG mains a way to still play those roles if ASS goes through.
highkey colors is a no-go. anyone with a good memory will tell you that the compromise was that charlie is still present in the model at all. at one point, it wasn’t. i like ideas though!
What is the real number of those so-called “charlie mains”? 10? 20? For me personally it feels like those “charlie mains” are just a small, but vocal minority voicing their opinion based solely on the fact that “change bad”. Why ASS charlie even needs some proto-specs and proto-SGs? Your regular HPR guy is already an SG-lite, your regular flamer guy is already a pyro-spec lite.
How removing spec and SGs from charlie impacted their “culture”? You can’t eat breakfasts no more, or something? Marine effectiveness isn’t measured by specs alone, damn, they are even more effective without spec if said spec were to be bald. Seriously, I want to know how not having a spec, or SG impacts perceived Charlie culture? If delta lost Spec and SG the culture of “unga me rush” wouldn’t be touched, hell, it would be even more reinforced. What if pre-ASS charlie spec picked scout and fucked off to do his own thing in the backlines, was that round Charlie culture hurt, or preserved?
I’m also confused how one can be a “Charlie Spec main”, or “Charlie SG main” when every squad besides bravo is just more, or less part of the ungaball. Hell, even potential “Bravo Spec main” would just fuck off to the frontlines, there was barerly any difference between charlie spec and alpha spec for example.
Better idea would be to give each squad something nice and unique, but also exclusive for them, while also “preserving culture”, but also not too OP. Maybe every bravo gets engineering pamphlet for free? Maybe one of the smaller squads being “recon” and getting shoes that decrease weed slowdown, or maybe one of the squads getting access to x4 scopes with NVG and alt IFF when scoped? Something like that.
i think everyone whining about muh squad cultures is a bit naive; sure im USUALLY delta SL, but sometimes im alpha, sometimes im bravo ( and I cryo ) and when people want to be specialized roles other then rifleman they get thrown around; SG, Spec, Corpsman and Comtechs…..noone gets to be in their fav squad every round; so the whole concept of ‘ regular ‘ people in squads is wishy washy because it’s inconsistent; larping really hard about breakfast isnt a bit restricted by being purple and called charlie … I think having “ Alpha, Delta, Bravo Charlie Kilo Oscar“ is pretty stupid and they should just nuke it all because its inconsistent anyway
something something HITMAN, ASSASIN……
whenever the like 9-10 people who do the charlie bit arent on, charlie is just like the other squads: a mix of people who just want to do their special roles and people who are just there to hold W until they see a xeno to shoot and get capd by
Colours are a definitive no-go, having three squads with effectively the same colour will get confusing fast.
Having mini specialists might be interesting though. Easier access to somewhat restricted weapons that are usually expensive like the AE2, MK1, Disposable SADARS and some other funny things might be somewhat fun.
Not having specs on bravo or sgs didn’t change anything to me, since those guys are really needed in the frontline and keeping them on the backline was always more of a disservice more than anything IMO.
Charlie usually just joined the ungaball, sometimes they did comms, that’s pretty much my 2 years experience with charlie back when I played it. The culture has not changed at all over the years in my eyes, charlie is still the “Have a nice last supper every time“ and “Do some specific operations“ which has progressively regressed into “I’m going to unga ball with delta and alpha because every other strategy is failing horribly and we need more bodies for the meat-grinder“.
honestly, I kinda really like the budget spec idea, but like, not neccesarily intertwined with ass in particular? like imagine if it was a nightmare insert, each squad gets 2x spec, but each one is a budget/proto specialist that is individually weaker? would be really fun ngl.
Eh? I’d rather charlie get some sort of new tool to assist with mobility or hit and run tactics, or even some more squad autonomy so they can do their job better without waiting for CIC to give them orders 5 minutes late. I play charlie for the people and camaraderie. Hell, maybe give them specific specs that excel at hit and run or flanking potential.
I do think CIC needs to really work on being faster, they miss the large majority of opportunities because they just get to them too late. Six squads might be too much for them to handle.
Squad culture if anything is negligible given that marines are going to unga if they want to unga. And any RP thats squad “culture” focused is consistent of meta buddies
