Anything with a damage malus or a speed reduction are borderline terrible even if their other stats look good, because damage and movement speed matter so much more than any other trait.
This is pointedly why we don’t have attachments that make you run faster or deal more damage (RIP Barrel Chargers).
Problem attachments:
Collapsible M39 stocks (movement malus)
M41, M37, and M39 solid stocks (movement malus)
Recoil Compensators (damage malus)
2x and 4x scopes (RoF (damage) malus)
Those new dual-purpose M10 compensators, and M10 suppressors (damage malus)
B8 scope (damage malus)
At least a few of these, though frankly all of them, should be reworked to eliminate damage or movement speed debuffs.
Instead, they should have:
Longer wield delays
Weapon size increases
And although it doesn’t exist as a malus right now, something like a rapid-fire cooldown to prevent you melting the barrel of your gun, could be an interesting option as an alternative drawback for some current (suppressors, bipods, compensators) attachments.
The real slop attachment is the burst assembly. I assume it is mostly meant for handguns(?). Not only your accuracy becomes worse but your RoF becomes slower too
I don’t think m39 collapsible stock has a movement malus, also it’s a very good attachment in general.
Reflex sight, vgrip, bayonet and collapsible stock. You have a laser accurate smg that breaks resin nodes in 1 hit and fits in the ultra space efficient m39 belt.
For best results, set e to toggle stock attachment. M39 stock folds and collapses instantly, so you can pull the M39 out, extending the stock with the same key press that equips it, with instant wield speed while still retaining the benfits of having a stock and a vertical grip.
If you want a useless attachment, M10 folding stock. It’s worse than the solid stock and increases size even when collapsed. Also the M10 compensators boost the damage instead of lowering it lol.
I take the solid stock with a MK2 so I can oneshot weed nodes with a bayo. I use it all the time as IO with a UBS. A lot of utility for 1 weapon to have, but absolutely not a fragger’s choice set up.
M39 solid stock/bayo can also 2 tap light resin doors and 1 tap weed nodes while still fitting in the M39 holster belt. You can’t put an agrip or vgrip on it, but you can put a laser sight or flashlight vgrip on it and it’ll still fit in the belt.
M37 collapsible stock doesn’t slow you down extended
M39 solid/collapsible stocks don’t slow you down extended
M41 stock isnt that crazy of a slow down (over 80 tiles you lose about 4 seconds) in exchange you can one shot weed nodes which lets you push aggressively
2x and 4x scopes lower firerate but give you way less damage falloff (2x scope is decent 4x is really niche and not that useful)
B8 only loses you about 10 damage on the M41 in exchange for never having to worry about FF (Wish it wasn’t butchered)
I dont use m10
Recoil compensators also lose you around 10 damage but just like aren’t noticeable for that amount of damage loss (The rifle compensator)
I pretty much don’t disagree with most. I do run a super skinny loadout on medic sometimes and I don’t have room for binocs/they’re all claimed so sometimes the 4x scope on a rifle is good as a stand-in. If I actually get to shooting, I just field strip it off.
I actually love the mark 2 solid stock. Mostly because when you attach a bayonet on it too, it can one tap weed nodes. The utter lack of scatter makes it really nice too, especially in a ‘bootleg’ HPR build with a bipod.
Biggest thing is the massacre of the B8 scope, not only is it’s prior role taken away and shot out back, BUT NOW IT AIN’T EVEN A SCOPE! **WHERE IS THE ZOOM?!?!?!
**
The 2x is fine to be honest, sure, it’s got a slower rate of fire, but only when zoomed in. I almost always take it on my M4RA, since it’s quite versatile. The 4x is shit though, no idea why anyone would ever use it.
The recoil compensator is also utter ass, it doesn’t even reduce scatter, so why take it for it’s loss of DPS?
for reference, you lose about 10 damage when swapping to mk AP, so instead of having the utility of ignoring armor you have the utility of ignoring teammates
You don’t actually have the utility of ignoring team mates, and the damage reduction on the B8 scope is actually intrinsic to the way alt-IFF works - not only do you not get to shoot, but it introduces a click delay so that you can’t shoot even when a friendly is no longer in the way, and then on top of that it also does less damage too.
Compounding and unnecessary factors. The actual damage malus on a B8 scope is far far far worse than just -10% in practice.
It’s why I’ve advocated for awhile now that the click delay on the alt-iff needs to go.
I’m going off what’s written in the wiki currently, which can sometimes lag behind changes in the actual game (however, there haven’t been any recent changes to SMG collapsible stocks as far as I’m aware), but the wiki does otherwise state the collapsible SMG stock has a movement delay associated with it:
The confusion might stem from the fact that the slowdowns don’t apply when the weapons are just in-hand (not wielded). This is why everyone unwields their gun when moving around.
And just for the sake of clarity - I’m not arguing there shouldn’t be a wielded slowdown, but rather that attachments shouldn’t be increasing the wielded slowdown; that an alternative malus (such as wield delay) would be better.
And for further clarity, this indicates aim_speed_mod is incremented (added to) and not replacing the existing wielded movement speed malus.
The click delay is horrendous, and it should get back its x2 delayed wield scope. I would be fine if it was limited back to the m4ra as that was what it was balanced to before.
b8 is super good, i’ll never stop glazing it. the click delay is w/e. in practice, even without the b8, you’d probably stop shooting for a bit when the beep would have happened because you would have shot a teammate. unless you’re “haha, me hold m1, kill every marine and xeno in front” pvt level
Yea I don’t know man spaghetti code but none of the stocks for the m39 give slowdown while wielded (Sorry for the shoddy quality the forum lies and its actually a 10mb limit not 50mb)
ps enjoy the editing it took me an hour because my laptop froze twice
bro didn’t move the LiveSplit window from it’s default position… madman
reason the slowdown isn’t affected is the same reason that was given in the armor comparisons,
basically there’s a limit to how often the game “checks” when you can move and let’s say the limit is 0.5 seconds, that means you won’t see a difference in movespeed unless it’s greater than or equal to 0.5 seconds
I still recall the very first round you taught me about the M41A solid stock bayo trick and my third eye was opened. I don’t care about “less” fragging potential when I can one tap pods… thank GOD!
You also in the same conversation made the mistake of letting me know that the Scout’s melee was the strongest marine melee in the game and I used the bayonet throwing knife belt and the rifle with a bayo and invis for like 5 WS rounds in a row. The only kill I got during any of them since I was so green was a larva I threw my throwing knife at
Is it incremental or linear in its slowdown? Even with 2 fractures on a leg and heavy armor the difference between wielded with no stock and wielded with a solid stock is nothing. It feels like with how slowdowns work the m39 stock will only slow you down in niche situations.
Also last vid im just making them to show off the speed
