Enforcement Action Taken
Description of the incident:
I’m new to this so bear with me.
I was XO and wanted to hold a briefing with the SLs my thinking was basically “Why not involve the CL to take a more central role in at least the starting pre-drop moments of a round?” So I walked up to them and we talked in CIC where we discussed if it was possible for them to meet at their office with the SLs to make a type of meeting between SLs and him about the importance of the colony.
Basically, the CL was going to RP some reasons about the background of the colony. Then I would step in and explain the military side of our operation. Civilian and Military contrast of two important men.
As usual I asked for permission and the CL accepted, after we discussed the idea, I didn’t mind it too much the small letter of SoP since I knew that there were a lot of briefings done in different other areas of the ship, and with CLs approval I thought it wouldn’t be a serious concern for anyone involved.
Then vendingmachine told me it wasn’t possible after I made the announcement, he shared me this bit “Areas that interfere with non-combat personnel or support personnel shall be avoided (Medbay, Research, Dropship) It is recommended to use the briefing room, conference room, or an open area such as the Hanger.”
At that time I didn’t wanted to be argumentative
- I was busy planning
- I didn’t wanted to give the impression they were “wrong” or something like that
- If an admin tells you that you should probably not try it, chances are you shouldn’t
So I said “Alright, CLs office briefing cancelled, we’ll do it the old school at hangar”
Then I got noted, which Is why I’m trying to appeal, I don’t want to get noted because I can’t for reasons I cannot disclose, I really, cannot afford a note.
So I will now explain from the PoV of SoP why IC, this should be valid
Let’s review the SoP one more time:
“The briefing should be performed in an area where a proper inspection of ready personnel and personnel can hear any orders. Areas that interfere with non-combat personnel or support personnel shall be avoided (Medbay, Research, Dropship) It is recommended to use the briefing room, conference room, or an open area such as the Hanger.”
Areas that interfere with non-combat personnel or support personnel shall be avoided (Medbay, Research, Dropship)
Are the CLs duties being interfiered with this briefing?
If the CL had duties before this briefing planned, they would have let me known and told me “This is not the time or place for this Captain” and we would have both moved on and done our own thing, if there was an event, then again, I would have been told by the CL after they received the event notification that they have to cancel briefing at their office.
Am I allowing them to be deprived of RP opportunities?
I don’t think so, I believe that with what I was trying to aim at I would have gotten them more RP opportunities, IF I said “Everyone come to CLs office for briefing” then definetly not, but this was only for SLs, a controlled group of people who I would overlook in their behavior as the CL was speaking.
Am I not allowing them to perform their duties as the Corporate Liason in any shape way or form?
Let’s check the CLs wiki:
“You can go to Medbay and see how the patients are doing or how the doctors are. Ask them about their work. You can wait in the Hanger and interview marines coming back”
“Afterwards, you can sue the Commanding Officer for the damages he caused on Solaris Ridge while fighting the Xenomorphs by his Marines”
Shouldn’t the CL let the marines be aware about their actions being performed into the colony? Shouldn’t the CL be involved into informing people about their responsibilities with the Corporation, and importantly enough, remind them that essential assets are inside of it? I am not trying to be too on the nose and step into how to play CL, but part of the fun, is to enforce bureocracy, and that can only be achieved if your presence is known.
Their office is a room where a lot of RP scenarios happen, and I don’t know about the CL but any opportunity to just be heard and taken seriously even in the slightest is always a welcome thing, IC my character is pro W-Y to a certain degree, so cooperation with the company is half expected from them. Besides, we talked about how they were going to ONLY give me civilian background about any Corporate assets, not orders, so I am not stepping their toes by telling them to do my job, I am not interfiering in their duties as a Liason because I am giving them the opportunity to turn me down. And in fact, I am giving them a window to perform their duties, not forcing them.
It’s like planning a barbecue in your pal’s backyard with their full approval, and the town council fines you and says that is not okay because it isn’t in the park claiming that it “disturbs” your pal’s routine, even after you cancel and relocate with no fuss about it.
Again, the intention was to create an RP scenario, and I think me showing no issue with changing the briefing to hangar shows this, but when I got noted, I just want to say that soured down my mood for the rest of the round, because it made me feel that I made a mistake and in the wrong when it was just a minor disagreement.
I hope this is easy to read for whoever has to review this.
